..I understand fully that I am likely to be heckled and laughed at for the following..

But.. is there any circumstance under which the RDD class isn't considered cheese and slap-worthy? And what does one..do with the class, anyway? Melee beef or?

I was looking at it as being interesting from a roleplaying standpoint, but the class itself seems kind of awkward to me, and that's before you get into the stigma's attached.

Thoughts?

In the circumstance that you take all 10 levels, to fully explore your characters draconic heritage, rather than taking 4 to exploit the mechanics of the classes Strength buffs.

Its best as a melee class, though, I think. Multiclassing a caster is generally a bad idea. If I did a Dragon Disciple I'd go Bard 20/DD 10. Lasting Inspiration Bards are awesome beyond compare and I reckon the Lore angle of the class compliments the whole draconic heritage thing nicely.

Does it still hold true that rogues, and only rogues, can detect traps with more than 35 DC?

Hrm. When building my dex weapon master I've become torn in regards to whether I should take crippling strike or epic skill focus Spot. Any suggestions?

This is also true, and very fortunate that it can be found on a few items. Especially when one reaches the upper levels when high end traps are more common.

Is this a good build for an AA? You get Enchant arrows X, Weapon Specialization and Epic Weapon Specialization by taking 4th level of Fighter in epic.
Only really loose out on tumble, so you'll get +3 AC instead of +6 since there will be no bard levels post epic. Alternatively could switch out bard for Wiz to make use of the imbue arrows ability in Amia and swap fighter for Rogue and make use of Sneak Attacks, doesn't seem worth it tho.

Any thoughts?
I'm going Bard4/Ftr7/AA19 for my guy, but he's a fairly silly AB-whoring build with many weaknessess.

The Rogue flavours are pretty good since they can at least swap to sword and board and get loot by acting as a straight KD/Sneak guy.

With people tanking, either is a great asset to a group. Arguably the AA19 more so in FvF because that AB is so monstrous.

How effective would the rogue be without HipS tho? You'd still need a party to distract the mob to sneak attack.
Also what's FvF?

Effective Rogue without HIPS?

It's Heart Hat Day, ladies!

FvF = "Faction vs Faction", group vs group PVP that the 19 AA can shine in because if they don't pay attention to you putting 60+ AB shots downwind, people will keep dying. But if they go for you, they leave themselves wide open to your buddies. Doom circles, learn 'em.

False. In certain areas of PvM, it's impossible for a rogue to be truly effective due to no corners to corner-sneak with.

But I get what you're trying to say.

No its not false. But then again, i never solo any more.

IMO you dont need HIPS to be "truly effective" in a party.

Newps, the Rogue build is a straight ranged Sneak-whoring Epic Dodger that pops 9AA levels on there to bump up AB and shoot through Premonition'n'pals.

Rogue19/Bard2/AA9 is the template. I've never played one, but I've run with a few and they are fearsome when shooting into melee:

10d6 Sneaks = ~35
+5 mighty= ~40
+5 Imbue Arrow V = ~40
1d8 Longbow = ~44.5
2d10 AA arrows= ~55.5

AB is typically:
21 base
+14 DEXmod
+3 (Epic)Weapon Focus
+5 Imbue Arrow V
+4 Bonus on longbow
= 48AB

When they get targetted by stray mobsters, it's not such a trauma because they just whip out a rapier and shield and let Epic Dodge and DEXer AC keep them alive until you come over and rescue them.

The 19AA flavour can't compete on damage in the majority of places since it loses the whopping 35/hit and only gains 5 from AA levels and 6 from Epic Weapon Spec so you're down to ~30.5, and the extra AB isn't significant against mobs, although against bosses and a lot of PCs, the unbuffed 56-58 you should aim for is sexy. It's actually very easy to stay within Sneak range as an archer, so the rock-solid dependability of the heavy AA just isn't that big a plus overall.

In FvF, the Sneak flavour's damage output is pretty admirable against the low AC PC, and Epic Dodge is a superb safety net for doom circles. You can't do the AA's trick of sitting on the safe side of a trapnest on the other side of the screen and sniping from afar, though.

Jyro X - Cornersneaking is a PvP thing. I never cornersneak in PvM - if I want to get Sneaks alone I find things that I can Knockdown reliably.

Paladin. Craft Wand vs Extend Spell vs Extra Turning.

I'm leaning towards the former, which seems kinda cool, and away from the latter, which seems kinda dull. I prefer new abilities to being able to do the same thing more often.

Mosh mentioned Craft Wand to me once...that would be for Bless Weapon, Bulls Strength and Eagles Splendour, mainly, I suppose? And having those on wands would free up some spellslots for extra Divine Favour, in the same way Extend does. But it doesnt have awesome 2 minute Divine Favours.

Don't know. Someone convince me.

Extend Spell. You need it. Extended Favour is just that good.

Craft Wand and Brew Pot work -if- you've got a feat free you'd normally spend on say Great Fort. Brew pot on a Paladin turns your Paladin into every good/neutral guys best friend because you offer lovely unlimited deafening clang and bless weapon and Aura of Glory to everyone regardless of UMD status aswell as freeing up your own spellslots for more Divine Favour.

Shifter build that I want advice on. This is my first Druid that goes into epic levels, so...

Rogue 4, Druid 8, Shifter 18
STR 13
DEX 10
CON 14
WIS 17
INT 12
CHA 10
(Ffolk subrace)

1-20 Feats:
Blindfight, Toughness, Alertness, Knockdown, Imp. Initiative, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave

20-30 Feats:
Great Wisdom (until WIS 28), Undead Shape, Outsider Shape, Construct Shape

-> Is dragon shape desirable / possible? So far I've only been able to crank WIS high enough for Construct Shape.
-> Armor AC does not transfer over into the shifted shapes, right?
-> Should I go 13 strength for power attack/cleave/great cleave, 13 intelligence for expertise/improved expertise/improved knockdown, or neither? I seem strapped for decent feats to take. Perhaps spell-focus or craft wand, or craft X would be more viable? I know that the 13 strength is negligible, since the stat is always set at something higher in other forms, but I'm at a loss for what to take on the last 3 feats.
-> I notice that Amia's class changes page lists that weapons always "merge" into the new shapes, no matter the shape. If weapon focuses/improved criticals are taken with a weapon, will the focus/improved critical carry over into new forms?

Thanks for any advice!

If you start with a base of 18 Wisdom.

18 (base) + 7 ( Levels) + 5 (Great Wis) = 30.

Level 29 is the earliest I managed to get it with 5 Great Wisdom feats.

You'd be able to take Dragon Shape. I don't know how good it is on this server though, or if it's worth giving up that much for.

If you're a 'real' Druid, Dragonshape is ace since it means you become extremely robust, which means you can focus on keeping your pets alive, as opposed to the other way around, which is the case for most of the levels prior to getting it. With extended Aura of Vitality, Blood Frenzy and Maximised Bull's Strength, you only need +1 STR on your armour to run at 60 STR all day. There are builds which deliver that level of DPS and robustness, but they don't have the RP flavour or Druid buffiness of the treehugger, and certainly don't have the stompy nature companions.

Not played a Shifter Dragonshaper, but I simply can't see it performing as well.

I'm currently playing a Shifter too, but I can't abide the notion of crossclass Discipline, so I sacrificed the Sneak damage and will go Druid8/Shifter8/Bard4 into 8/17/5, aiming for Outsider and Construct Shape to see what I can make of them. I don't want to be a rubbish Dragon when I've been a good one(on the same guy no less, he's a self-rebuilder), and I already know what the good Risen Lord build is, and frankly can't be arsed with it.

If you did it properly you still have 41 DC spells and an epic summon to fall back on.

I think its been said by some pretty good builders to leave all physical stats at 10. Id have to agree with this. Maximum wisdom starting. For a Ffolk, thats 19. Every point counts when it comes to meeting requirements for epic shapes as early as possible. Also helps with the DCs of your abilities.

Forget about great cleave. Shifters physical forms dont have enough of a presence to make the feat worthwhile. If you really must have cleave, 'paws of the bear' is your friend.

Get improved expertise. Sometimes i feel as if this feat was simply made for the shifter.

Dont bother with dragon unless you're a pure druid IMO, unless of course if you want it for RP then by all means go for it. In terms of pure mechanics...nah.

Not sure about armor AC. Good set of armor always helps though if you change form in combat.

Weapon feats only apply if you've taken the feat for X weapon and the shifted shape uses X weapon. e.g if you took weapon focus spear, it would apply for the drider shape but do nothing for the drow warrior form.

I'm toying with the idea of making a build around maximized bull/fox/endurance/cat/and maybe eagle spells. +5 to each stat could loosen up a lot of item slots.

I'm thinking something like this-

15 Wiz
4 Monk
11 Something (Pal, Rogue, SD, PM maybe if Wiz was changed to Sorcerer?)

Any suggestions would be appreicated.

So I'm going to build my first alt character in a long time, and give Vaylek a rest. He's going to be a monk, a mulani monk, named Pu Liu. The concept is that his family clan back home were dedicated to the memory of a powerful, benevolent Chiang Lung (river dragon) named Transistumar who, way back when he actually lived, would breed with members of the Liu clan. So Pu has traces of draconic blood in him and his lifelong ambition is to realise them and become closer to his honored ancestor. Oh and he's a martial artist (hoping to go unarmed here though am open to the idea of weapons)

For the build I need your help, guys. I saw one on here that was 25 monk/1 sorc/4 RDD, and I think that could work. I've never built a monk before so I have no idea where to start really, in terms of stats and feats. All I know right now is subrace: mulani (sorry if thats suboptimal!).

Pleeeease help me oh build-wizards! I will honor your ancestors for years to come!

way I remember you need at least 20 monk if you want a real monk. though I heard a nice powerbuild which I refuse to repeat here that ends up a 10 monk. and something else.

p(a)u li(u) as in pauli, pauly shaw, from rocky? O_o sorry XD

I take it the 1 sorc is for your companion dragon/dog/etc, it, will, get, pwnt, by the time you get it unless you get sorc at level 1 ? it is caster level and not total level which improves your summons though, right?

on a different note I also am making a new character, i'm thinking rouge/cleric/assasin? he's mainly a theif/assassin RP wise so...any idea's and which feats to take would be sweet, i'm noob with rouges. other than I know, epic dodge, I know...also what levels/ or other classes would you recommend, im open to ideas, but it IS a rouge.

ed: nearly forgot, arn't there new monk skills at level 25+ ? I remember something about hadoken but its not hadoken before y'all start making monks......level 28 also comes to mind...little help...

ed2 to tomak: oh right yea of course.

Haha, yeah well, I'm backing it up with RP/backstory, so its all legit baby! Base human will be fine.

The companion I'm not too worried about... Is it stronger if I take the sorcerer 1 at level 1? Even if it is I'd still start as a monk I think. And no, no Rocky references here!

But yeah, looking for staple feats and a good starting array of stats for a versatile, monk heavy build. I'm imagining strength should come before wisdom or desterity, because monks have spare AC overflowing out of their armpits.

if you do go monk, toughness, at level one, for max hp, so you can uber tank later. imho.

ed: leave out ambidex and 2-wep unless your going for kamas. which I assume your not with rdd...

With 25 monk levels you get +5 AC on top of whatever WIS score you can muster. If you go STR-based you'll be an unarmored person with +4 AC (+5 monk, -1 RDD) and WIS. So you still need to invest in WIS or DEX for a combined modifier of 11 to get the same AC as a fully armored fighter type (8 + (3 + 4) = 15; 15 - 4 (monk bonus - RDD bonus) = 11).

Even if the familiar is slightly stronger with sorceror at 1st level (which I never heard of before), I'd go monk for skill points.

Personally, I prefer DEX monks, because the base damage of lvl 16 fists is 1d20 which can make up some of the damage missing from low STR, all while boosting AC. In this case, you won't suffer from very low STR anyway with RDD.

And you can take Toughness at any level for the same end result.

Hmm, so what would your starting stat array be Zinovy?

i'm just trying to establish if a rdd/monk taking sorc at level 25 for the rdd part has a lv 25 companion or a lv 1 one. I am not a massivly experienced wizard user either.

also on a similar scaling note, toughness doesn't scale O_o ? pretty sure it says that in its description. thus lv1

("not retroactive...adds 1 to hp at level up....." from the top of my head. *wiki's it*)

ed: hits ARE gained retroactively O_o *takes the feat for plus 13 hp next level maybe*

Toughness is retroactive.

Uh, Toughness is better than epic toughness. Toughness = 30 HP, ET = 20.

Totally lost me there, so 7 rogue would be good for the SA instead of fighter levels?

So then the +10 arrows from 19 AA = bosses and Clerics/Paladins/BGs/PMs in PvP, the rogue build is more for mobs and low AC players?

So the advantage of a 19 AA is just it's high AB, and that they get further range then the rogue build? Also what 2d10 AA arrows?
