Apart from Clerics, is there a build which will find it really easy to PvM?

I'm not remotely worried about PvP, I just want to be able to solo easily and explore without getting flattened all the time because I don't know the areas yet. (Druid with a pet and summon is doing really well, but I'd love a melee or a caster that works). Most of the builds I'm familiar with can't handle quite this many monsters at once.

Interesting to find that because there's no storyline, quests don't end in progressively difficult areas - so finding the next 'safe' place to level in Amia is much more difficult than in solo games!

Dear Santa, please send me a soloing machine.

I'm thinking .. Summoner... Wizard?
Or Ranger, frankly?
Or perhaps the Dwarven Defender FireShield Potion spammer
Shifter comes to mind also
Obviously cleric?
Druid

Rangers are a bit too squishy to solo with, at least until epic.

23 Paladin/1 Monk/6 CoT balanced between STR/CHA

20 Monk/10 Rogue Epic Dodger

Pure or near pure Wizard/Sorc

12 Fighter/16 WM/2 Rogue

All of these are dead easy to solo with.

Yeah, I had trouble with a Ranger at the start (mostly because I was going with an Archer), but then I hit level 6 and had a pet, and it got much easier :)

Interesting that straight wizards can handle it, hmm.

I disagree. Your average Ranger25/Fighter4/Rogue1 is great at soloing the Frozen Wastes and Spires, but levels after around 15 till 20 are painful indeed.

Monk20/Rogue10, for example, was a lot tougher one to solo, in my mind. Sure it doesn't get hit too often, but the damage output is just horrible alone. Most of my characters rarely die in solo PvM anyway, because I'm not bold enough to try anything stupid. It's the speed that matters. Get Juggy scrolls, Imp Invis the tinhead and you're set, but otherwise it's a very big yawn.

In the end it doesn't matter on the build so much as it does on whether you get Improved Invis somewhere or not.

Wizards can handle anything. Just prepare beforehand, and you're set to kill ... The undoer even.

Hmmm. I disagree with Suney.

23 Paladin 6 fighter 1 Rogue is the easiest Str/Cha chap to solo with. Epic Weapon Specs all day damage and UMD just make things Tons easier. My Paladin never needed the extra saves from CoT (to the point that I once had him sitting on 50 fort by mistake), and the extra AB from the Divine Wrath just couldn't compete with the all day damage and extra feat from fighter levels.

10 Monk 1 Wizard 19 AA/9 Monk 2 Wizard 19 AA is probably the easiest time I've had soloing on Amia. You do near fighter damage, from range with 63/62 AC and the nifty get me the fuck out of here speed boost. 56/57 AB isn't anything to shake your head at either. Basically he was a mobile weapons platform delivering 30 - 50 damage down range per shot and using six shots per round. Level 5 - 10 are a bit of a drag until you can afford polymorph scrolls, but as soon as you can afford those your basically set.

I was thinking all the way up to 30, though. Like you said, lower levels would be a pain unless you abuse summon or polymorph scrolls. Can't deny that the build rocks though.

And yeah, you are right about the Paladin/Rogue/Fighter build being better suited for a balanced pally. I was still stuck in the smiter thought after Iron's post a while back. Sleep deprivation due to dynamic kobolds are to blame somewhere here.

Polymorph scrolls "only" ?
Summon VII -And- Polymorph, and you're set to play! Moahahah...

@Topic - Mmh... The Paladin/Fighter is the easy one, Especially since it can troll inside an Undead Infested crypt/house and wreck havoc just as well as on normal mobs.

I Tested your Blackguard/Rogue Mosh, and i could actually say that it topped on the -easy- scale to level. Bit quirky until i got decent AB and Imp.knock-down... But then it flowed perfectly. Especially since most mobs have 0 Discipline until you hit 25-28, and the epic areas.

Speaking of which, I'd say that Imp.knockdown is a key-part to an easy solo class

Dex-Based Epic dodge chap, with the upgraded Summon.

Epic Dodging Blackguard is a Gimmick says I.

But yes its 13 Rogue 16 BG 1 Ranger if done properly.

The only issue with it is, its universally a build for Moon/Wood/Wild elves and thats with minimised con unless your not planning on using the Cha component of the Blackguard or minimising your int rather than your con.

To be honest, I just tried a Human STR Warrior with a scythe and Great Cleave and I'm butchering everything.

It's the levels up to 20 that I'm finding hard, the way a monk would. A lot of builds are great at 30 but horrible at 15 :)

When i think of it, One of the worst killing machines i've played was a 23Rogue/1Ranger/6Monk. As soon as it got Imp.Knockdown(again that damned knockdown) it was insane towards everything not sneak-immune.

Sadly, The levels up to 27-30 was a nightmare.
At least soloing, but that's what were talking about.

It had to rely on Poly scrolls and 4 early monk levels, Plus Summon VII Scrolls until 15, Then it became extremely dependant on a party.

Strange build choice that.

19 Rogue 10 Monk 1 ranger obviously is better. 2d6 less sneaks of course but you pick up an extra feat from Monk 9 giving you your Improved Evasion and you can take 8 Monk in pre-epic to nab IKD earlier.

Wanted as many Rogue levels as possible.
It was a Dex-Based build, a quite nifty one.
The UMD helped at lot with the AC; since it bough Owl's insight scrolls from "You know where" giving it a very early dump in AC. I think it docked 40@ level 10.

I think it had Imp.two Wep fighting and kama focus, Epic skill focus in hide/MS and then the rest of the feats invested in improved Sneak attack. It was suppose to be a heavy sneaker with many attacks.

It was really fun in parties :)

My bad, It didn't have any ranger in it. It was a 24Rogue/6Monk.

14d6 sneak, if i remember.
I've always wanted to do a more heavy sneaker than that, thought...

You should try 29Rogue/1Monk. You need Wep.proficiency Exotic and Wep.Focus kama for it, and it will only pay off @ level 29-30

I've actually had a look at alot of sneaker builds.

And the amount of sacrifice you make to go from 19 Rogue to 24 Rogue just isn't worth it IMHO. So many better combinations can be made with 11 free levels than 6. 10d6 sneaks is enough for me.

Yes true. Like wep.Specialization... 6 damage all day/Nigh is worth hell-ova much more than hefty sneaks...
But it's fun if you want to see big numbers.

Sometimes, all the fun is in the minmaxing, and Sneak Attacks in the hundreds are mighty satisfying.

23Rogue/6Fighter/1Monk could be a winner in terms of Damage-per-Second, for a DEX based sneaker.

12d6Sneak + eventual extra Sneak feats
+6 Epic wep spec
+4Enchantment
+8 STR Bonus (from 14 base)
1d6 weapon
1d8 Elemental damage/Wonderforged damage
1d8 Flame Weapon scrolls

Min damage + Max damage Divined by 2 = Average damage. What do we get?

High sneaks?

I ran a 19 Rogue 5 Assasin 6 fighter for ages and it was my highest sneaking character and one of the highest sneaking chaps I've seen on the server.

The closest to him was a 28 Rogue 1 Assassin 1 Ranger who admitted to me he purposefully gimped his character just to say he had 20d6 sneak die (14d6 rogue + 1d6 assassin + 5d6 improved sneak feats) He still managed to have EWF and Epic Dodge, but no armor skin, epic discipline, epic spot or anything.

Pure minmaxing fucks me of.

I don't want to start another build topic unless theres some sort of organisation going into it this time. In actual fact Tormak I know is leery of the build topic completely, and I personally believe there should be a build and mechanics subforum with a moderator (but that will never happen).

I'm rebuilding my hin rogue to 29 Rogue/1 Ranger so he'll have 15d6 without any added feats. Gets a total of 7 Epic Feats. What do the buildaholics suggest? EWF and Epic Dodge natch, but that leaves 5 more, two rogue bonus feats and 3 general epic feats. I was thinking ESF Spot/Disc/Hide then a couple of extra sneak dice. His AC should be in the 59-63 range without bard buffs so I don't know if Armorskin is mandatory.

Armorskin is always mandatory on a build that bases itself on high AC when it can't be using its primary functions.

Also as a corner sneaker ESF: hide is a wasted feat since you'll either hide from everyone with 50 - 80 hide or get spotted by the spotters.

Alright, I get the point on Armorskin. But you lost me here. Even with ESF Hide and 115 Ranks I will be spotted? So, who is ESF Hide good for and why is it different for cornersneakers as opposed to HiPSers?

Since the spotters have their spot so high that they will spot you even with that much hide/ms.

Basically, they either invest most points into spot or they don't have any points in there. Almost nothing inbetween safe for the few druids/clerics with high wisdom mods.

Ninja'ed but i do have other information.

Because when corner sneaking and theres no real need for it. If a spotter is going to spot you it doesn't matter if you've got a score of 115 or 105 he's going to spot you because thats what spotters do. That ESF: hide could be better used on Epic Fort or Discipline.

As a corner-sneaker you are buffing out more abilities, require a full AC gear set and much more in the way of discipline etc to prevent certain things occuring, Like Knockdowns and Called Shot leg. SD's can avoid Devvers by HiPsing, once your caught out in the open you need a quality fort save. 63 AC isn't nearly enough against a TS quaffing Hasted Weapon Master especially a two hander who potentially will kill you on a critical without even bothering Devastating.

HiPsers can abuse the free action mechanic if within range of a shadow to re-hips and force the spotter to reaquire them and all that jazz. Corner sneakers can't.

That and as a small size race you already net a +4 DC to your modifier I believe which will offset not taking the thingo but you gain a -4DC to your discipline checks from KD's.

None of my corner sneakers invested in Hide Skills

So. My Paladin. First off, disclaimer: I swear I had a build calc thingie that I -think- Svensk posted... but I can't find it! Else I would not be asking quite so much on this and just post if I had any problems instead :/
So, yeah, let me know what you lot think *nods*

Race: Human
Classes: Paladin 23 (levels 1-23)/CoT 6 (levels 24-28, 30)/Monk 1 (level 29)
Abilities:
STR 14 > 18
DEX 8
CON 12
INT 14
WIS 14
CHA 15 > 18
Skills: 1*see below
Feats: 2*see below
Deity: 3*see below

1) I am thinking full Discipline and Persuade, first. Then, go halfway to three-quarters max on Lore/Taunt/Discipline. I am considering Discipline just to keep from being taunted as well, though I am not putting an emphasis on it. Same with Taunt, I just do not know if he would do it that much.

2) For feats, should I go with this order: Blind Fight, Power Attack, Imp Critical, Weapon Focus, Divine Might, Divine Shield, Extend Spell, Knockdown, Improved Knockdown, Epic Fort, Epic Discipline, Epic Spot, Armor Skin? I'm not entirely sure on the level progression for it all.

3) Ilmater for deity. I think it meshes best with his concept. He will be compassionate, willing to do nigh anything to stop the suffering of others, and stop at nothing to right the wrongs of evil. Zealous almost to a fault, but able to recognize and keep from 'going overboard' in most cases. Thoughts? I've not had much experience with Ilmater, heh

Well, perhaps this is my taste only, but I would not add knockdown to a paladin.
I am playing a paladin who is also a servant of Ilmater, so I can help you out IG. Ilmater has two main ideological line, one is represented by the Order of the Golden Cup and the other one is Companions of the Noble Heart.

The first one is mainly focusing on healing skills.
The second one is rather focusing on the remove the source of suffering. Meaning of the evil churches, especially the church of Loviatar. So at the second case, I would focus on the combat skills.

Doing an elf bard 23 / fighter 6 / ranger1. Can't decide whether to go shield+weapon or two-hander. Halberd looks totally sexy and has much dmg, but shield has slots and AC. Any one handed weapon that looks elfy aside a longsword?

I am considering Discipline just to keep from being taunted as well, though I am not putting an emphasis on it. Same with Taunt, I just do not know if he would do it that much.

Concentration helps against Taunt, not Discipline.

The Feat progress is good.

Int 14 on a human paladin = 5 skills to max.
You mention these 5, correct?
spot
Discipline
Persuasion
Tumble
Lore

Overall, that's a pretty hardcore paladin.

There's a halberd model that looks like a lance'ish thingy... Totally elven tho.

Edit - It looks like the weapon the Elves use in LotR, The opening movie where orcs battle elves at Mt.Doom!

Thanks, I saw the info on those orders but didn't know if any matched him well. I will definitely have him being more martial, though.
I'll have to get some IG helps, then =D

.... I do not know why i put Discipline. I swear I meant to type Concentration haha
Thanks for the feat info and such
I just dunno if I want to max Taunt. I am thinking of maxing just two skills until I get Spot as a class skill. Tumble is another consideration, but that's another story and not -that- important.

You need tumble
Taunt is a good one if you battle spellcasters. 30% Spell failure for a few rounds.
Discipline is a must.

Spot is good
Id' say it's a choice between lore and persuade

But what is it called? ... It's some sort of spear/Blade...

Edit - You would look awsome with Monkey-grip.

I don't want to start another build topic unless theres some sort of organisation going into it this time. In actual fact Tormak I know is leery of the build topic completely, and I personally believe there should be a build and mechanics subforum with a moderator (but that will never happen).

Given that its mostly the same questions and answears I guess this could be boiled down to 2-3 pages.
If we were given a subforum, we could easily have a thread for each class and it wouldnt have to be more than 1 page.
Then it would be easy for interested to just look under the class they want info about and find it within 10 minutes.
The question is maybe if we really want alot of players to make the "most awesome" build ever, or just give them guidelines to not fall compleatly through.
This should be a RP server so maybe powerbuilds dosent sound so good here, dunno..

It's always the same questions and builds, but its easier to just ask straight away than looking through 60 pages to find your answer. I'd expand the Wiki with standard builds. Move build stuff to Improving Amia (as subforum). It doesn't really belong there, but Mosh can moderate there. First post should be a link to the Wiki with emphasis on how to build a character that doesn't suck in a party and how to build for PvM. Uce's old post about classes is still valid bar some balance changes. No powerbuild tips.

The "best" builds out there are so varied that it would take forever to go through them all. The "best" pally build for an elven pally of whatever god may be different from the "best" pally build for a human pally of a different god.

I do think that more emphasis should be paid to how people request help, though. "I want the most powerful pally build ever!" should be ignored, but "I'm wanting to build {insert character concept here}. This is what I've got thus far {insert build specifics here}" and then the builders can come in and help correct the build from there. Basically I'm saying that this should go more to a build help thread and away from a build my character for me thread. But that's just me.

I will laugh, for it will turn out how it's suppose to turn out. My involvement doesn't matter.
