Lost body parts regenerate on resurrection. Technically, whatever body parts you've cut off from your victim turn to ash at the same moment. I don't see why you couldn't overlook that in favor of story, if you just like to collect elven ears for a trophy necklace or something, though. Common sense should apply first and foremost.

I'm kind of mixed on the mutilation thing namely because of the rather lackadaisical outlook on Restoration, Regeneration and the like. I'm all for an evil PC doing their thing since....well..that's how they are.

But sometimes the after effects call for something that IC, a the PC has to figure out how to deal with. An example is one PC I have. She really can't have a GR tossed on her and the fountains (while pools of GR) kind of have to be treated primarily as blessed waters.

Namely because a GR/Regen would hurt something in her biologically. Not hurt like wound but erase IC things that are key/bound into her as a whole. Still....an evil PC doing clean mutilations or sending a tell asking for OOC permit for an IC action would just be polite.

By the SAME token though if the evil PC talks openly about doing something along the lines of mutilation and the dead person politely requests OOC for them NOT to DO that, then as a fellow player it seems they should alter the plan for something still evil but not what was planned.

The notion that someone is going to kill you and let that be that without reveling in the deed in some way, shape or form is odd. Especially if they're evil. They're evil. GLoating is like sweet to honey for them, no?

*smiles*.. to ask permission..is just irriatating somewhat...yes to be polite? well..sure..though its as if to say in this world of Imagination there are no consequences of attacking or any action in reguards to *I should first ask* lol ... Though really im just discussing this ..just to share *smiles* If someone really does not want things to happen ill to them they should think about it before "doing" lol . By the way if someone asked me to please not cut my head of cause I dont want to have to be IC raised and RP it was regenerated. I have no prob to not do it XD

Oh no...if your big mouth writes a check for 'whoop arse' then your butt needs to cash it. I meant after the person died. Dying is a given if you jump salty at someone that likely eats elder dragons for breakfast.

I'm just saying AFTER you die and they idly speculate about wearing your skin as a coat kind of thing or setting the body on fire, or hell balling it...or cutting it up and using the limbs as drumsticks. (this has all happened to my PC btw. Hilarious however disturbing and she's been in the MOST pvp action for a non-confrontation PC of mine.)

Yeah...if asked to please not burn the PC corpse or other things along those lines...that's all I meant.

Still..only a true sadist can get someone to agree to letting such horrible things happen to them or the masters could make the person beg for it. Mind fecks. Must love them. *turns topic back to original path now*

To be honest, I originally wrote 'blood' but decided 'arterial squirting' was funnier. Didn't really think about it deeply enough to consider the (physio)logical contradiction there.

I don't like the whole "desecrate the body" thing nine times out of ten because it usually smacks of "nyeah nyeah look what I can do."

I won't say anything unless it's particularly unimaginative(key word there folks) and purposefully stupid gory. Frankly you can't force me to roleplay no arms. So who cares. Cut my finger off, eat it. Do whatever. I've post-mortem farted on people. Take that internet.

I am -very- depressed I've never seen Va at work :(

It's one of those things you just have to roll with. There's only so much politeness or discretion you can expect from other players. Once your character steps into the game world, (s)he's pretty much free game for anyone to interact with, in any way they see fit (as long as server rules aren't broken). Just to use the above poster as an example: if your character has a condition that would lead to serious consequences if Greater Restoration or Regeneration was ever cast on her, it is basically an invitation for other people to do just that. After all, what good is a plot hook if it isn't utilized? The consequences, especially if they're dire, can be great fun. My PCs have been burned alive, exiled for heresy from their racial city, stripped of rank, status and achievements twice via IC combat/backstabbing (plus once because of the suspected heresy), branded with Eilistraee's symbol on the face (as a Lolthite), permanently blinded on one eye, assassinated permanently (and usurped of the throne at that); and those are some of my fondest memories of Amia.

Granted, Rolling with the Punches is different than accepting griefing. If someone happens to have legit reason to cast GR on your character in RP, even by accident, that's something to roll with. If, however, someone reads your post here and goes to cast it on you without IC motivation, just to mess with you, that's something you don't have to roll with.

I've never liked the outlook of "This is my character, and I alone am in control of his story." The fun in role-playing is subjecting yourself to interaction with the world and other PCs. If you let nothing affect you, you can't expect to affect anything yourself. So you might as well hit up the few people you do feel safe interacting with on MSN, and have a private RP there. On Amia, everyone is free game and everyone is supposed to interact with anyone. Of course, there are times when two people know they don't get along and should just stay away from eachother, but that's not the default mode.

Common courtesy goes two ways: not expecting other players to accept unreasonable and disproportionate consequences to their PCs, but also allowing other players to interact and affect your PC through their actions.

This brought to mind a yet nastier way to get IC revenge for your character's defiled corpse. You know, dead people don't just release gas from their guts... have fun searching someone's corpse after that.

This. So very QFE.

At the same time, absurdity is simply un-fun. Doing something simply because you can, isn't likely to be enjoyable to anyone but you. ANY rp should be striven to be made enjoyable for everyone involved, with the clear exception of people who are simply unwilling to accept losing. There's nothing you can do when that happens though, other than consider the "avoid if possible" philosophy with them.

A somewhat pvp related question here. When fighting mages, is it binding if you roll a grapple check as you RP that you grab the mage's shoulders/arms?

Thoughts on tanks grappling mages.

but also keep in mind, one can still speak a spell

It is binding in the physical sense (you just bound them), but I don't think any rolls are compulsory (unless a DM asks for them), and so they wouldn't be forced to submit.

Aye that's why I'm not so sure myself because DM's stance on rolls is that they aren't compulsory. I was thinking though, that it was more in the context of social skills roll.

Anyways, so basically if the mage doesn't want to acknowledge your character's action of holding him/her down, he can just ignore it?

I heard that Grapple was auto-negated by having any Freedom item or spell on the person being grabbed.

....a little cheap to me but that's just me and likely not others.

What is the final ruling on Grapple vs Freedom gear/Spell?

I would say no to this, Freedom lets you avoid -movement- impedeing effects. That is to say slipping on grease doesn't happen. Webbing doesn't sticky you but I -highly- doubt freedom would stop a cordorian guard from grabbing me by the collar and dragging my roguey butt out of town
:)

Actually, technically it does ... PHB:
"The subject automatically succeeds on any grapple check made to resist a grapple attempt, as well as on grapple checks or Escape Artist checks made to escape a grapple or pin."

To which I was most surprised ... I thought it didn't.

To be honest, that was always the one part of freedom I never liked that it makes you 100% immune to grappling. I understand it's part of the "freedom" concept, but if I'm ever your DM for a situation, this is your warning that I may very well not accept "I have Freedom" as away out of a grapple situation.

My 2 cents is going in late but; if you use Raise Scrolls in good PvP then you need to learn how to cope with losing. I don't want to hear about 'using ALL tool available no matter how lame they are. Use your imagination and humility instead.

And I second, or twenty-second, the call for the removal of Raise Dead scrolls. It'd make Amia a little more gritty and a little less 'huggy'. Perhaps they could be removed to restrictive locations, or require penance to the God that raised you? I say require as I know many people wouldn't bother to RP it.

Raise scrolls depend on your RP I suppose or your PC. One of mine is a nature gal so dying is supposed to happen in the Circle of Li- *Gets blind sided by Disney Ninja Lawyers* ...ouch...

*clears throat* As I said Circle of...umm....the natural order. Yeah. >.> <.<. So fallen comrades are RPed as being knocked out, not dead unless they wish to be.

Still..yeah..have played on a server with the hardcore gritty. It made for less "I shall save you!'' and more "crap, crap crap! I should run in that cave to hide but something might be in there that's worse than what's chasing me! CRAP!!" It was so beautiful....brutal, frustrating, evil as the thrice tainted seed of Satan but beautiful.

*steers it back to topic*

I'm afraid I agree with hendrack in the opinion that removing raise dead scrolls, or even restricting them more, is a bad idea.
It serves only to punish weaker builds and lower level players - powerbuilds rarely die (unless getting reckless) and usually have the money to afford a respawn (or just spent it all to deck out on gear so that they have nothing to lose).

If your character lost in PvP to a group of people using raise scrolls and you are complaining about it, I don't think the other people are the ones who have a problem with losing.

Thats one big windmill, Don Quijote.

I'm afraid I agree with hendrack in the opinion that removing raise dead scrolls, or even restricting them more, is a bad idea.

An alternative is to make the raise dead scrolls not useable while there are hostiles in the area.

A better alternative is to make blank scrolls buyable in infinite numbers, remove Raise Dead scrolls, and make SOMEBODY craft scrolls. >.>

I've been PvPed to death plenty of times. The only times it's aggravating is when people use their super-telepathy to call their 'Justice League' friends to save them. Aside from that I don't mind at all, PvP death leads to RP in most cases. If it doesn't then I've either brought it on myself or the killer is a tool.

EDIT: A big windmill indeed. Pity though, would make things interesting.

Awesome. Cheap Mords, GS, Bigby's and Time Stops for everyone!

And... to Jess. I think someone else mentioned that option in the past (might have been Disco, somewhere, somehow)... although it was overlooked by the general Amian populace.

I'm actually agreeing with Mago on this one ... it would just mean that all the above-mentioned scrolls would be created and sold en-masse.
I don't see what the problem with Raise Dead is. We have a scroll, we use the scroll. That's it - it is simply a war of attrition that you choose to fight over sudden death.
If you don't like them using Raise Dead, you can always just flee from the fight.

You'll understand the frustration with Raise Dead scrolls, Yurell, once you find yourself in a PvP of Many vs You and one of theirs is staying in GS through-out the entire fight, raising his/her buddies on demand even though you've already killed all of them three times over.

In that situation, it's not you who's got a problem with losing the battle, it's them.

Unfortunally, it's quite common, and not the least bit of fun.

True, it's just as the same with fighting a person who drinks a heal potion every other round. At the end of the day, you'll just feel bad for them. As for my character, a draw is good enough. They'd retreat and call it quits (or maybe a fake retreat and come back a minute later and catch them unprepared).

In Amia it's up to you, the player, to make up your own fun most of the time.

Very true.

And people who spam Time Stop, heals pots or raise dead scrolls ain't fun in my book.

Hence, they don't make it into the way I play the game, and are therefore excluded from my (to be) future enjoyment.
