I don't understand why scimmies are okay and bows are not.
The problem Druids have with metal weapons is that they're man made, worked metal. I still don't get why that makes scimitars and spears alright, though, and why bows *aren't* alright.

Well, I suppose spears could have natural creatures 'claws/teeth' attached to them for tips.
..As for scimitars? Hell if I know, unless its made out a dragon claw shaped into a handle.

They can, however it's something that'd be done under close scrutiny of both the local druidic circles; and divine agents. Depends largely on the purpose.

I guess the real explanation for the weapon restrictions is what GuNz said. It's probably meant to keep druids from being awesome fighters, etc. OOC based, like most game rules, really. In this instance, the IC excuse is just poorer than usual. I wouldn't dwell too much on it, personally: either accept it as "this is how it is" or ignore it. I'm not sure about the extent to which we enforce druidic weapon choices, but we have not enforced the ban against bows, at least. I guess common sense and (possibly) checking with the DMs would work if you wanted to use an unusual weapon and had a reason for it.

Well, I suppose the rules were designed for low-level 2e PnP adventures, so any comparison to NWN is moot. (Might even be for earlier editions, I don't know about them; at least druidic weapon restrictions are already in place by 2e.)

Well, since the sickle proficiency comes from inspiration in Celtic Lore, I believe they extended the meaning of "weapons that emulate the face of the Great Mother" a.k.a. the Moon, to include the scimitar, which is much more curved as a real weapon than in NWN. Staff, dart, spear, and sling can all have been inspired in Celts as well.

That's probably part of the reason too, yeah.
