One of my characters, Dharma Hahd, is an evil murdress and a total psychopath. She revells in slaughter, and often finds herself waxing lyrical on murder and mayhem.
One thing im wondering is where this fits in to the overall rules about what you can and cant say on Amia. Granted, she doesnt go into graphic detail about torture and cruelty, and she only kills grown adults and not children or defenseless animals, but she has a totally sociopathic disregard for public conventions surrounding what is and isnt acceptable small talk.
Could someone please enlighten me on whether a character such as this is possible? I have others that dont discuss how they murdered their sister at age five, so its no loss if I cant play Dharma, but Id really like to know before I overstep a boundary and get myself banned.
Many thanks,
Case

Amia is PG13 I believe. So think M rated movies, minus graphic swearing and sexual explanations. Use more realms like words to add flavor. Obviously no having your character talking about how they skull fucked someone they killed or anything.

Playing charachters that are similar, i can give some advice that might helpful
1.) make sure that there is roleplaying involved when you are going to slaughter people. This is the biggest thing, don't kill people without rping with them. Amareth for example often emotes taking out her bow and preparing to fire. Emoting that you are going to kill them also fufills the requirement of letting people know that you wish to kill them.
2.) Be nice OOCly. No matter how much of a mad and an arrogant bitch your character is ICly don't transfer that to OOC. More people are willing to rp with you if you are nice and freindly.
3.) have justification, and some sort of reasoning for your slaughtering or killing . For amareth it is a sense of duty to rid the world of drow, orcs, and other evil monsters. For Lualyrr, it is excitement and to serve Lolth. Find a reason to kill people. Since you seem to be a pyscopathic murder, take a look at some of the evil deities, and choose one. Cyric comes to mind.
I do hope this helps you out

are you sure because I remember someone wanted to make a faction to kill all non-common surface races, so kill like orcs,drow,kobold,duergar,svirfneblinm,goblin,Hobgoblin,Tiefling...ect
DMs said no from what I remember because its a basic PVP faction to kill half the player base at will, I dont see how you not liking the race is basic auto win for reason to kill or any diffrent from that persons faction idea.

They might not have respected server rules. I respect the server rules. Running up to said creatures, *turning them hostile* and than proceeding to kill them is a BIG No No. You have to rp with them, even if you are going to kill them. Killing people without rp is considered Greifing and is thus against server rules.

they asked befor they made it and was turned down, it had nothing to do not following server rules and anyway, I dont like your race you will be purged *hostile* now die *gives afew sec to run* *stab*
I think the basic hate ones open the flood gates.
like with the druids/clerics/pallys/rangers killing summoned undead, you can unsummon undead you cant not be your race.

That is not RPing, and being like that is a very fast way to earn one's self a much-deserved ban.

So we should all be friends and racism or hatred shouldn't exist on amia? Shouldn't demons and devils walk hand in hands down the streets of cordor? should Ultrinnan allow elves to walk in its streets? No.
If you do not want conflict, perhaps you* should not play a race that will have conflict? What that means is if you don't want conflict, don't play say a drow, or a tiefling, remember that not all characters will like your race and some will want to destroy it.
and I do follow the server rules, playing a charchter that despises another race, I make sure that i follow the server rules. I do rp with the targets that I am going to kill more than "Die, vile dhearow!" *waits than turns on hostile and kills* I do more than that I do rp with drow. and plenty have managed to escape or beaten amareth before as well.

I remember that request to form the faction and if I remember correctly, they were basically asking for permission to form a group that would go out and hunt down PC's that fell into the "enemy" category for them. That, by very definition, is a PvP guild and won't ever fly on Amia (I hope!).
Having a character that abhors certain other races is completely fine, however. Most of my drow have different degrees and variations of superiority complexes that come out when dealing with other races. Doesn't mean I want to PvP them, but often times it leads to that. I always follow the rules and always give an IC way out of the situation. My drow are probably looked at as snotty, blow-hard brats by most surface races that run across them. My drow talk trash and do what they can to get under the skin of the "lesser races".
But, back to the OP's question. Where is that line? Like Selvec said, Amia is PG-13. There are several things that'll get you a quick ban, however. Rape and pedophilia come to mind first. I'd stay away from even mentioning anything that had to do with those words, just to be on the safe side.
Basically, any scenario is okay as long as you don't get too graphic with your details and don't use any of the famous 4-letter words. For example:
I gouged out her eyes. = okay to say
I took a rusty spork and then slowly worked my way around the lids of the eyes before.... (goes on and on in detail) = not okay

Aye, just don't be too descriptive, and if in doubt don't say it.
It makes torture RP less fun, but they're the rules.

I play a PC in other places who is a psychopath and who is more thought-provoking and interesting than the cookie-cutter manic psychopath variety, and I still came to the conclusion that Amia is just not ready for that kind of commitment to chilling, inhuman but not over-the-top horror.

Lol. America in a fucking nutshell.
Murdering others in brutal fashion is less offensive than saying f*ck (which everyone does anyway, even if it's taboo), or making sexual insinuations (omg, sex?!).

Spork has five letters.

This may sound like a silly question, but why is Amia PG if NWN itself is M?

Because nobody listens to the little labels anymore and children either get their parents to buy the game or find it somewhere in their house/at a friends before starting to play it.
Half of the time I don't read the labels on the games. 0.o'

Because the owner of the server decided that's how it was going to be, Yurrell.
Yea, us Amercians. I love it how people insult and make shitty comments about "us" Americans as a whole, but forget that the server is run in America, owned by an American.
Kinda like coming into someones house and pissing on their floor, then sitting down and going "What's that smell ?" but hey, I'm an idealist.

I was just asking, and at no point did I make it about being American. Its an American sever in America and thus bound by American law.
It just seemed odd that the server would have a lower rating than the game you run it on.

I think the rating system is voluntary, so they dont have to get it rated, and if its not forced to get it rated if you pick to, its still means nothing.
and they need to stop blaming crap on videos games moives and TV, they every read a history book(school or otherwise) or seen the moives, dont see them trying to ban them.

I wasn't referring to anyone in specific, I think Yurell and ya'll just took my next sentance, which was separate by a line of space, as still pointing towards Yurell.
The comment was honestly directed at ANYONE who isn't an American yet has the audacity to use these forums and bandwidth and electricty, which are provided for FREE to discuss a game which is run on a server FOR FREE, to backtalk the nationality of the people who own it.
That's just poor form, no matter how you look at it.

I agree, this makes no sense at all! Amia can't be PG, every single person is a frickin' mass murderer! Running around with swords and axes, killing things that look a lot like people (sometimes just people! eg rat cultists), burning things with fireballs etc etc.
I wonder what it would take to get Amia upgraded to a M rating (is that 15+ only on the states as well?), and what changes that might mean to server rules.

you want to see messed up 'rating' have a look at Australia. The scary thing here is that they don't rate things heavily, they just censor the crap out of them.
I think most Australians would be very surprised to see the untouched versions of many of the movies, television programs, songs and games they love run along side our 'wholesome' edits.
That movie Juno was almost rated M15 because of 'Teen Pregnancy Themes'. What the hell!?! And they say the Christian Right doesn't have a stake in Australian politics ('they' are our retarded biased press).

Well, fuck me sideways. If you're gonna get up on high horses claiming American protectionism because the server is being hosted in America, by an American, then let's move it to Europe. I for one wouldn't mind getting rid of the cross-Atlantic lag.
Americans, IMO, have laws and regulations put into practice by politicians who have been elected by the American citizens themselves.
Not everyone may agree with those, but a majority apparently does, and that majority gets to represent the country outwards to the rest of the world (yes, there's a world beyond the North American continent).
When you have game and movie regulations that state that sex and "foul" language (language which a lot of Americans seem more than happy to use on the internet) is inappropriate for minors, yet blood, gore, murders, decapitations, monsters and horror is OK, then those regulations are just plain stupid, as are those who put the regulations into place.
Having said that. I am ever thankful for MagnumMan's contribution to Amia, and to those Americans on the staff and in the playerbase who do a great job in providing Amia with all its riches and treasures.

Can't be more silly than the german version *Rolly eyes* They removed inpaled corpses, blood effects, arrow that were stuck in the character, etc.

It's still there.... nobody seems to ever remember about it though.
@ Dakotaen: That's an antiquated law that's still on the books for some reason. Doesn't mean you can actually get away with that stuff. There's still a law in my city that says you can't herd your livestock down Market St. on Sundays between the hours of 10am and 2pm. I'm sure that a little digging into wherever you live would reveal some pretty messed-up laws, too.
I would add that there is nothing that makes anyone play on Amia. I'm sure there's a inferior server out there that doesn't mind foul language and more mature "R" rated content.... anyone with a problem can go there, I'm sure.

Nah, didn't think you would. Those laws are all insanely amusing, though.

I like the fact that in York (I believe its there), I can murder a Scotsman if he carries a crossbow.

Im of the opinion that the races like drows and tieflings or demons (generally those whose majority are evil ) need to be platinum coined or just agree and know that they are choosing to play a race thats supposed to take crap. That's part of the allure in playing a monster race afterall. The stigma and racism.

having to prove you're just as not-evil as the rest of the world gets old after awhile and tends to shoehorned in when it does appear. ("yeah sure i'll go adventure with you to kill giants but first i have to say this: fuck the darkies and by darkies i mean drow not the slur towards black people wouldn't want anyone thinking i'm racist in the real world or i'm using this game as a vehicle for my rl opinions)
is it me or does fantasy as a genre have an unhealthy obsession with racism and making sure they're "racist enough" it'd be weird if any other genre had racism quotas to fulfil

I'd say there is too little racisme Amia. And too little class discrimination.

Yes, i would like to see more of both racisme and class discrimination between characters. I try my best within my characters given aligment and personality to promote it. Not always succesful however. Im not as good at it as i wish i were.

and you just gave the reason why there shouldn't be more of it (besides the obvious ones of course), it's nearly always poorly done and comes off somewhat forced and only done because someone somewhere said it has to be done.

The unfitting tolerance and modern day attitude is far worse than any clumsy attempt at doing it right, and some of us do it well.

I can agree that its a problem that i and others arent as good at it as we wish, we will try to improve. What are the obvious reasons though?

Quote: What are the obvious reasons though?
you ever see someone who plays an asshole character so well you begin to wonder if they're that way in real life? same thing here but only with a much more controversial subject. there are some people who use fiction as a medium for their opinions and some of those people find out fantasy and sci-fi is a great genre for doing that because they can hide behind allegory. have you ever read the iron dream (i really recommend it if you haven't)? it's kind of like that.
i once saw a guy on another forum post a rant about goblins disturbingly similar to something a real-life racist would say about africans. i'm talking a really uncanny resemblance here like he copypasted a rant from stormfront and ran find and replace on it.

I find those accusations empty against any players I know. Fantasy worlds are racist or rather speciesist because they are medieval fantasy, not real world, and they have real literal races, species and monsters, not to mention almost black and white good and evil.
With your line of though we should not have any sentinent monstrous creatures as enemies or monsters to hunt.
Having elves and dwarves huggle each other is bad enough, the whole city of tolerance crap with monsters being treated just like humans ruins the fantasy atmosphere almost completely. It is also why I do not play monsters on Amia. I would want to be feared and prejudiced against, not to be accepted with open arms.
Racism concerns are often baseless in real life, and even more so in role playing games.

On the topic of strange laws, I lately heard the rumor that people where allowed to dual each other to death by the sword until a few years ago an actor stabbed an other actor to death in a medival themepark. It was said he used it in his defence never heard what came of it but they remved that law and thats one sure thing.
On the topic of "evil" rp, I thin if the other person accepts gruesom details you can do all of that by tells. Same for pvp combat just rp your reason, if im playing an elf and I get stabbed to death by a few drow im perfectly fine with it aslong as they put me on hostile before they do so.

Well, I assume YOU dont pay for any of this, funny you are the one ubset..
Having said that, I can agree with you that one could thread lightly when pointing out things that one might find funny or odd when it comes to nationality.
In Mr Magos defence, he (and I) live in Sweden. We have a rather relaxed attitude when it comes to nationality and making fun of peculiar national traits and quirks. Its just not really a big issue here. Hey, making fun of whats 'swedish' is actually quite popular in Sweden. Sometimes we forget that others might think otherwise....
And, going on topic:
'Evil' is a very artificial concept, which shows when it comes down to social interaction on a rpg server. Suddenly, cold blooded murderers are supposed to rub elbows with 'holier than thou' paladins, just for the sake of game rules (which allows and ecourages these characters in the same setting). In reality this would quickly turn into a purge, where either the 'good' or the 'evil' would be killed or driven out of the city.
Given the fact that we are supposed to accept different kinds of social misfits (from whatever viewpoint you have) I think that one should hold a high standard of RP to justify an 'evil' character, as opposed to someone who just want an 'ic' excuse for attacking people.
