If you are bored in Real Life.

Why do you login to Amia and roleplay being bored in Cordor East?

I want to know. Seriously.

This is the tenth time or so someone confessed this to me.

Because the chances of something exciting happening in a fantasy world like Amia is higher than in RL.

I mean, when was the last time you could beat down an undead in RL?

Not to forget it is fantasy.

But hey, if they log on to be bored, I think I log on to sleep

I don't see this topic going well.

(FYI: Normally when people are bored, they seek entertainment. Videogames are this.)

seriously why buck the system, and why freaking ask a question like it? If someone wants to rp being bored, let them. it should be no skin off your back so to speak as well as have nothing to do with you.

so my question is, why give a fuck?

I'd hazard a guess that they find it more interesting than bossrunning or lootfarming?

I can sympathise there. Unless it's a character I intend to play on the faction scene and therefore want prepared for PvP, I can't really be arsed soloing any given boss with a character more than once; I'm only curious to see if he or she can do it.

When I log on and RP being bored in Cordor, I usually listen to the RP going on around me.

When I'm bored and I log on and stand in East, still bored, it's in hopes that something good will happen.

Or I just stand there silently for a while because my brain has gone dead and I can't seem to think of anything interesting to do...

When I'm bored, I go to Cordor to start a conversation or simply rattle things up.. or make a complete fool of my char for other's amusement.

I see nothing wrong with it.

Because Cordor square usually provides me some entertainment in the form of other bored characters.

Cant argue about such questions of taste. I personally despise most cordor rp, however, hardly my place to tell others its wrong to play their characters that way. If I dont like certain characters or certain styled rp hubs, I avoid them. Works well enough.

Because expecting DMs or other players to entertain you is less of a blow to the ego than finding a way to entertain yourself.

Usually I'm fairly self-sufficient. My character mentioned once that he was bored in Cordor East and he promptly got snappy remarks that were just dripping player thoughts and not character thoughts.

So yeah, if you think you have to be a shining beacon of RP excellence and diss people who ICly say they are bored because you assume they're not able to entertain themselves on an OOC level, then quit being so anal and cater to your own RP. People, and characters, have a right to be whatever they want, even if it's whiny and bored. That is all.

Honestly, I do my best to keep myself entertained while sitting in Cordor (usually, I have something I am plottin' or schemin' these days is why)..

And before anyone else says anything: Not all plotting and scheming is evil... point of fact the character I'm doing it most as right now is Good aligned. ^_^

I'm speaking specificially of players who complain about being bored, though, xordae.

What comes out of a character's mouth doesn't necessarily ever represent the player.

And you're right about those. I guess if you play persistent worlds long enough, it just becomes routine to log on even if you're not in a creative mood. I try not to do this, but it happens. Funny that you guys know players complaining about boredom though. I wouldn't take it too well. Kinda brazen of them to be shovelling that on someone else's pile.

As DMs, we're constantly bombarded by party chat, and I'll be honest and say that what you people say in party chat can be one of the most spirit-breaking and damning things we ever have to read.

But, yeah, I don't get too worked up over players bitching about being bored. That's what eight year olds in the back seat of the car on a long drive do, so that should give you an impression of where my mind goes when I see a player complaining about being bored in Cordor, or anywhere.

Should make a "Best Of the Worst Of Party Chat" thread so that we can at least have a laugh about it. I'd soak that up like a sponge.

I guess I don't mind the bored so much as the long term AFKing in the square..stop taking up those server slots!

Because standing around in Kohl, Brog, Winya, the 'Scape, UD, or UP is even more boring than standing around in Cordor. However Bendir Dale is far from boring. Bendir is awesome!

If most of Cordor East players are just bored it explains a lot. I am curious if those are the same who don't explore B if your oma's life depends on it.

Ahaha. You're hilarious.

Most of my char's are actually inspired by boredom. My CN is bored and thinks "Hey, let me go see if someone is being a jerk or a zealot so I can put them in their place." My LG goes "There's evil afoot... somewhere! *runs off, Naruto ninja-style". My NG ditsy bard goes"*giggle* Yaaay, bubbles and gumdrops and kittens!!". And my LN... well, he considers himself above such mortal things as boredom. He's either destroying those unworthy of Hoar's mercy with his bare hands or lying in wait for more power to come his way.... >.> <.<

On a side note, down with Cordor anyway. I wanna see a plot that blows it up and forces everyone to go back to their racial homes for a week or so. *nod*

When I'm bored in Cordor I usually go to Bendir Dale, Kohlingen or occasionally Djedet, which at those times are usually even more boring (ie. empty).

I went to B-mia yesterday when A-mia was down - 65 people were on and none of them were in Djedet. I found some enjoyable RP in Wiltun, but Xavi herself hates the place and would hardly ever go there ICly.

I believe Khem is more active in the Euro times. I quite often now find rp in Nes'ek and Djedet, but that is when the mulans and such are on.

Aye, that does seem to be the case. I go to Nes'ek and Djedet with my new character all the time, since she lives there, and I really only find RP late at night or early morning from here in California. Which mean, typical Aussie/Euro times.

I still try and hang around and wait to see if people come by though. I usually end up sitting there for a bout an hour with no one and leave though. :\

As for Cordor, not a big fan of the typical Cordor RP so I don't really go there often. At least not to hunt for RP. I go to take care of business on whatever PC and split as soon as I'm done, for the most part. I do Like the Outskirt areas though, I like going there. No offense to any Cordor lovers, just not my style.

no actually I have logged on a couple of times bored but one of the best things I've found to do is look over the events rp in the forums. Just tonight I looked over it and was inspired to RP. Aaand sometimes I will log on just to see who I run into. Odds are I'd have a better chance running into a chat or event on Amia than I would out in the country where I live. Of course their always is exploring, just be careful and prepared. Then when there is characters on you know you'll have someplace to show them. Exploring rocks! expecially when you don't know what is in the area lol spoooook'ay B-mia has a bunch of areas to explore too. Well we do play adventurers. :wink:

Only OPs and DMs call for locks.

Let people do what they want. If they are bored, RP with them, if they aren't engaged, move on. Don't get angry about something you can't control, it only stresses you out.

My bad, seemed like it was degressing into a nasty bickering session.

My 2 cents. I keep running into people metagaming guards... Or ones that after a littler verbal disagreement, Call Guards Guards!.. And then you get spammed with // // // // crap...

Personally I avoid cordor for several reasons

1. Most of my characters dont like the city
2. The one who does is not liked in the city
3. I cant be bothered sometimes to be 'forced into rp' if i have only a few minutes online.
4. I dont see any IC reason to stand stock still for 24 hours getting rained on and talking about woe is me and commenting on random people. Im not a "mall watcher"

Tuesday. It was pretty epic and intense. I took like 65 damage.

I like Cordor. That's why I go there when I'm bored. Also, if I myself am bored, it's usually because I've exhausted most other options that I log on and stand around doing nothing.

Besides, there's usually someone to bug, or get bugged by, in tells.

IF everybody else is bored I like to make stuff happen, e.g smoke like a chimney until I get arrested for public intoxication lawl

Also, the people who say they don't like Cordor RP, what do you actually class as Cordor RP?

As Rafanshki asked, I'd also like to know what people reguard as 'Cordor roleplay'? That intrigues me ~ in reguards to the topic, do people reguard the roleplay in Cordor very much as being boredom orientated, both ICly and OOCly? I just don't get it.

In reguards to the question - at the end of the day, NWN is a videogame. You play games to relieve boredom, and for enjoyment. I suppose there will be some as already said, that get into a routine of logging in, and just sitting around doing nothing, thus claiming boredom. But if it's to watch other people roleplaying, then there's entertainment in it.

I've been online as characters before; the characters themselves just chilling in Cordor square. One example is my newest character. Tia loves it there, because she likes to draw the different characters she sees passing through. She finds it fascinating. But there are times when it's surprisingly quiet for the bustling area of activity it's known to be.
If you're an artist, and you want to draw amazing adventurers, and watch what they do, what they're like... etcetera, only to be shown a couple of well reserved individuals strolling through, of course you're going to utter a sigh of boredom as a character.

What I find is that whenever a character expresses boredom in Cordor, this has already been mentioned by xordae, but I see it a lot... well, there's a lot of IC responses that are irritable and snide that seem to be the player's thoughts, and not their characters. It happens a lot. Who, seriously, cares if a character is bored? If some faggot is gonna sit at the screen and be BORED, wasting their time, instead of logging and going to do something worth while, then LET THEM.

If a player wants to make their character bored, let them. Sometimes exclaiming out loud that one's bored can be the perfect opportunity for someone else to spring a RP scenario on them, thus relieving the character (or even the player, if they were bored too) of their boredom.

Also after briefly looking through the forums I think Cordor RP is considered to be the *poke* *giggle* *huggle* let's-all-play-happy-families type of RP, which I must admit, really gets on my tits sometimes.

Some people enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with that.

* Inappropiate amounts of giggles, pokes, hugs and physical contact.
* Emotional dramas and self-pitty
* Bitching, whining and nagging at each other, often making threats, while the NPC guards disable you from doing anything about it
* Silent bench-sitting
* Random chaotic spurs of loony hins/kobolds/goblins.
* Occasional law breaker that runs through naked, speaks OOCly while in IC chat (the horror!) or someone who has a... pet... inside the walls.

@Mago: I must admit, I will be the first to admit that 90% of the time if a naked guy runs through Cordor shouting OOC babble my first instinct will be to laugh hysterically and then try to RP with him as a loony before he gets kicked by a DM.

Just because you don't enjoy something other people do does not make your RP better. IF that's what your post is implying, I'm totally disappointed!
