This topic revolves around the pvp atmosphere on Amia. What I have encountered in the last weeks was something I find damaging to the server. I will only use occurences I witnessed myself here. Perhaps this is more a request or a hopeful reminder, rather than a discussion.

In the numerous pvp encounters on Caraigh these last weeks, I was in the begining very positively suprised. The bad guys were extremely good sports about everything, giving leeway and understanding of hickups through mechanical or human error in the situations. I erred twice (once mechanically, relog bug, the other time overlooking to hostile one person which was rather quickly remedied), they erred once in an encounter. However, there was never bad blood but always a lot of enjoyment.

This even with Robert using tactics of guriella warfare which hit them when running out of buffs or in great number. There was never a complaint about the dogs of war being unleashed upon them with little forewarning.

However, in party chat the good side in the attack upon Ceyren's Mill and then further on often made me leave the party. This happened not once, or twice, but thrice. Just the times I was playing. Stemming from people who just were absolutely unforgiving when there was a hickup (tied to losing), to people who interpreted occurences wrong (in my eyes seemingly likely on purpose), finally to people who plain lied about it.

I am sure there are mistakes and people on both sides. This is not something that only occurs on one side.

So please, if you are a player who can not handle defeats or who only can win, do not come to events or areas you know you have to expect pvp. Your immaturity hurts the plot, it hurts the rp and it hurts your fellow players on both sides. Please, understand mistakes can happen and do not accuse people, who clearly only did a mistake (technical or human), of hurtful intent.

Honestly, the metallity of us versus them that resonates in party chat so often is shortsighted. Evil and good provides rp for eachother. I am sick of generalizing that all evil are n00b killers and rule breaking pvp happy gits. Seeing how many good players revel in winning pvp, that is just hipocracy. If there are no banites, no lothites and no cultists, who the hell can I oppose with Robert?

Out of the point of view as a player on the good side, I am very happy I was not playing on the evil side. I would have likely dropped out of the event very quickly as I would just not wish to deal with the player to player bickering. So... Please, show some respect, tolerance and regognition to the other side. I surely do not want to only depend on the DMs for battling darkness. You are hurting yourself with this.

It's not like it's the first plea for fair play, and the offenders will probably not recognize themselves as guilty of anything, but I believe it had to be said again.

On a similar note, one of the best RPers I've ever met (out of all the servers I've been to!) once said "I enjoy losing." - It makes you blink. It's not something you'd expect someone to say. But really? Just try it. Just being willing to lose on occasion, can help RP blossom amazingly. Something tiny can end up having immense ripples. And that's always fun.

Playing Dwarf Fortress for a few weeks can teach you to enjoy spectacular ways of losing. Let us use it as a learning tool! :)

It will also drive you categorically insane. Not an ideal learning device!

Yeah. Losing may be fun, but we don't need an overt amount of magma spewing phallic objects suddenly appearing ingame.

Also, honoring the death lore would be appreciated by both sides.

I've seen more than once decapitated people getting raised.
Outsiders not returning to their homeplane, waiting for the true ressurection (not even after the fall of Blackmoor).
People with no remains respawning in the matter of minutes and returning etc.

It would be smart if you died in pvp to ask for clarification what the status of your character is before you do something. Just toss the other side a tell "Hey, was Robert knocked out, stabbed to death, or even decapitated?"

This probably refers to me, and is false. Gagis was properly banished in the explosion and returned from the planes only later.

Indeed, most do not bother to check on that and simply assume that once someone was lowered to < zero hitpoints does not have to be bothered about anymore, that is one of the things I really hate; When you were killed in pvp and then simply ignored for hours, while those who killed you bicker and discuss or simply brag to one another, it is unfair to the ones who lost and now have to wait till they are finally thrown into a river or burned or whatever, of course sometimes that is inevitable, but most of the times it's simply unforbearing, especially when you need to log while waiting, which is naturally interpreted as moronism or the incapability of losing from the opposing side. When you kill someone in PVP you have the responsibility for that one and include him/her into further RP, even if that one is dead, of course it would be even smarter just to knock that one out to have the possibility to RP with that one.
As someone who plays both good and evil I know that the usual Kill/throw away/wait for the next fight/ kill again/ throw away somewhere else- concept is simply exausting and boring for both sides, of course some orders see no other way but to purge necros immediatly, but think of all the other possibilities you have when capturing one of the bad guys or the other way around.... these conflicts are the reason why evil/good RP can be so awsome, but if you can't be creative and all you want is to win you will either get desperate very soon or quit the game.

I am really fed up with those events, aswell, and I'd wish there would be more people who would value evil/good- dialogues and the conflicts of those two forces like I did and not just take it as an invitation for pvp, because it forces you to focus on things like your level, your build, your equipment, the number of your allies and not the quality of your RP, the goals of your character, his/her ideals and especially the type of the bond you have to your allies.... the whole thing gets reduced to a bloody OOC quarrel with no story at all.

Anyways, I just thought that would be worth mentioning in this topic as it is somehow related to the events I was participating in on Caraigh.

This thread was needed. Thank you phearnun.

I play both sides of the fence, but, on this server, I've only recently started playing WITH the other "baddies". I'd heard things about what the players of evil toons had gone through, and I didn't believe it until I played the evil side of the Caraigh conflict. Now, I do. On other servers I played "wicked" but there was always the understanding, it seemed, at least, that the evil character is what I played, not what I was.

The players of evil toons are not necessarily "evil" or rulebreakers, or pvp whores. I found it utter irony to have the enemy showing up, fully buffed, attack us, and when they got beaten, calling us PvP whores. It is things like that that take the enjoyment away.

I am afraid that because of the apriori assumption that the players of evil toons are rule breakers and pvp whores, we lost ourselves some really good RP'ers.

This has got to stop.

I was toying with the idea of asking the IA section to upgrade the Pvp Widget so you could set -everybody- hostile at once. That would surely solve a lot of missunderstandings.

To be completely honest, I've seen crap on both sides. No one here, not even me, is innocent, so no one needs to be getting up on their soap box.

That said, Phear is right. Shitty OOC attitudes breeds shitty RP. And we're all better than that. Every last one of us. It's why we're here, not a PVP server.

@ Svensks: More or less it just comes down to honesty and maturity. It does not truly matter how the rules are done or what mechanical changes are implemented, that can only impact this so far.

But now you have broken a rule, by airing your dirty laundry on the forum and trying to rally a lynch mob against them by doing so.

Shame, but not unexpected, just like every time this topic comes up.

Locked, to prevent more reckless complaining and jabs at specific people, like what you just did, and what happened to Silvarus, or snide comments from posters like gobo.
