A couple months ago, October actually, I was completely fed up. Fed up with Amia.

I couldn't stand the flimsy roleplay, the smite happy paladins, the cultish druids or the complete lack of adversity they faced and the utter abandon they used when they stamped out the majority of evil saplings just as their leaves left the trampled soil that they were supposed to grow in. As a result, we had a bunch of stunted evil factions hiding out all the time, or in disguise, like short trees clinging to the side of a mountain. And this drove me nuts.

I focused on the UD for that article only because I hadn't really heard of other evil factions. It seemed to me that they had always been small, since they'd never been powerful in the time I had been playing.

And apparently, other people were also fed up as you might see in the first article. The discussion was so heated that on the third day of it being up, it was locked down generating almost 500 views. That article was only meant to bring ideas; not some kind of flame-fest that it turned out to be.
In the end, I simply gave up and left Amia, convinced that the best roleplay, which sucked anyways, was far behind.

But a month later, after repeated pleading from my friend Bladen-Kurst i came back to see what he meant by all of the "changes".

In fact, I simply walked into a fairly public place with him and lo and behold the Banites, apparently back from the near-dead, were raising some dead member with a rune circle. Curious, I waded in closer with an invisibility potion and spied on them for five minutes. They finished, saw me and abducted me.

What followed was by far the best RP experience I've ever had. I was force-converted (in a completely unorthodox way I was later told) with my friend and over the next week it was night after night of parading about, attacking, having rituals, or trying to work myself out of slave-status. It was always something new and exciting that week.

I don't even remember a single moment of "Good Guy" RP anymore.

Evil had finally made a comeback and it was already adding spice to the Amian landscape! I wanted to get up and shout for joy! Which I ended up doing anyways.

My time with the Banites has given me new hope for this server. And I hope that everybody here can benefit from new RP and the great plots that the evil factions create. Balance at last is just around the corner from here; I hope we learn from the mistake of monopoly and keep the power in so many more hands!

I just want to point out that a few months ago when you made that thread the largest evil faction on Amia was still recovering from a big defeat. It makes sense that everything was calm and good reigned for a while. (Shame the opposite isn't the case when good gets beaten, but hey, us small groups aren't gonna make much of a hit when we get beaten). Anyway, point is, the sudden change in your opinion from back then to now makes complete sense given evil is now active again and in your face.

There was no monopoly. It was just the natural reaction to losing your main base. Same reason the War Knights have been out of the scene for a while, we lost our base in that little tiff to, and natural reaction is for us to suddenly not be so prominent, just we are a minor player as the Banites are a major player. (Judging by numbers here, not influence). So our lack of presence wasn't nearly as noticed.

Um... I won't post my opinion here because it is quite scathing and says absolutely nothing nice about you. Ta, I hope you have fun on Amia now that you are back.

I didn't start this thread to start fights with other players; I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. You don't have to read it if you think it's trash, and you're certainly not obligated to reply. The first article was really me venting out at the established order and trying to get the evil creativity flowing. I said what I wanted to say, and 500 people listened. I wrote this follow up to bring closure to myself, if anything, because I like to feel good about this server and myself and think that what I said made a difference.

Haha. You sure went from crazy angry to flinging the word "best" out there pretty quickly! Should we ask how many servers you've played on and how experienced the opinion is?

Welcome back and glad you're happy again. Now focus on bringing that joy to others yourself!

500 people didn't listen. There is the greatest likelihood that no one really listened, a handful of them gave you private lip service suggesting they had listened in order to win your respect, quite a few clicked on the thread just to get their rocks off on voyeuring or participating in an ego-fueled wank-off, and the majority clicked on it out of boredom or to get it to stop being an unread thread.

trends come and go on amia very quickly. i see one day someone is in power, then the next their lead member is permakilled or some such...
well you got mad because your preferred rp style wasnt prominent and left, cool. now your back and think banites have saved rp on amia. just gotta say, thats silly, there are many great rpers here... some not so great, downright terrible sometimes. including some banites, but i dont care about that. what i care about is that you left because people werent playing with you? why didnt you try and breathe some life that you thought amia so needed into it yourself? almost everyday i log in and find random people i dont know and rp with them in different ways each time, and it never gets boring. though i blame portal wands for there not being more rp along the roads... but thats another rant. what im saying is, and this is to everyone, dont wait for someone to run up and give you a big bowl of rp soup. go out there yourself with an idea in mind and play it out for all to enjoy. on a good day, maggot rps with at least a dozen people in a few hours because i seek them out.

Coei21 The fact you're enjoying yourself is a good thing. A PC villain has pretty heavy shoes to fill on Amia sometimes. (Being outmanned usually one of these issues.) This does not mean that playing evil for evil's sake can not be rewarding. I am quite happy reading your return experience and have found a niche. I myself have walked on the evil line with a couple of my PCs (Sans factional support) and it can be a complicated situation.

Keep up the enthusiasm and energy, it does breed it in others. In that way, Perception is reality, if others perceive something as doable, fun, the thing becomes doable and fun. If it is perceived as 'bad' 'impossible' to be done these things feelings tend to become self-fulfilling. Being able to keep momentum (even after defeat) is important, and something evil truly needs. It is ...after all.. an enduring tangable force in Faerun! Just as good is. Don't forget that.

Makes for a dull game without would be hero's and villans. I don't think anyone would pay for a movie where bat man solves the crime and has the joker put away for life in the first ten minutes and the rest of the 90 minutes is him just driving around. Everyone wants their side to win but with no real challenge there is no real growth.

Yossarin you're probably right that only a few of the hundreds of views were actually people reading. It counts up whenever someone clicks the thread right? It was probably a dozen or so people and the people who replied and me constantly checking the replies that brought it up to 500 XD

I was being pretty obnoxious thinking that anybody actually cared. I'm not sure where I was even going with this thread. But thanks for reading another Amian rant, those of you that did. It sure felt good writing it

It's the internet, people might read what you rant but only a small number actually gives a shit. Sorry, that's just how it is and has nothing to do with Amia.

Villains and heroes are all very fine and well, but how much heroism or villainy can you really fit into a given week on Amia?

And while many may like to play one or the other, it's not for all of us. I'd rather play a character I can believe in than one who simply fills some sort of a gap.

Depends where you're talking about. I will say that 90% (Probably more) of American Men are pussies. Luckily I'm a pure breed european mutt, including a bit of scandinavian (Hopefully Fin.)
