I just started playing a Salandran Pc (Cerila Harker) and I am finding it a bit hard too encounter other Sallies.

So a few questions:

-Are they still out there?
-What time-zones?
-Anyone willing to apprentice my char or offer her the temple's wisdom?

Oh and I had a helpy DM that did want to introduce me in the temple but at the time I only had a few minutes. Alas I forgot who the friendly voice was  (Sorry!) Do feel free to grab me in game ^^

They figured the EO was too cool and they decided to commit a mass suicide when the holy alliance was broken with the Kellies.

Okies

Then next question:
Is there any more lore on the subject besides the wiki?

Otherwise I'll call myself free to fill in the details as I see fit.

Salandran ideology, values, laws,...

Some questions: what about self-defence, rendering people unable to harm others, raising the dead, necromancers, preventing battles,...

Hey!

Sorry, I've been super busy these past few weeks with work. As soon as school starts, I should be able to be on more. :)

Same here, really. Though my problems have been a mixture of school, sickness and travel. I'll be back soon to play my Salandran, though, so don't be afraid to ask for me.

Salandrans take alot of restraint to play. Even though I knew how they were supposed to act, I chose for four years to play a Salandran incorrectly for that reason.

I cannot bring my Salandran back to actively RP with anyone (and trust me, my Salandran was the last person you ever wanted to be talking with), however if Salandran players have questions regarding the tennets, I can offer input. I still remember Averest's point of view when she drilled it into mine and Metalien's thick skulls back in the golden times which pretty much matches the majority of what the DMs will tell you anyway.

Here's some of my input that I hope answers those questions of yours.

PM I made a while back. wrote:

First off, I'll be the first person to admit that Jack Galenson wasn't what you'd call a model Salandran. He wasn't nice, he cared very little for people and he was an extremely unpredictable individual. Except for his clinical knowledge which was (and still is) better then everyone else's, his interpretations of the Salandran tennets were perhaps... 80% "different," however he had reasons for his behaviour.

He's an example of a person who gave everything he had for the cause: mind, body, compassion, blood, sweat and tears. Even his own soul... but in the end he lost all hope and lost all faith in people. The more he tried, the more it hurt and to cope he gave up his humanity. Its what psychologists call "compassion burnout" and its common amongst nurses in modern society, particularly aged care nurses who witness alot of things they can't prevent or change. His desire to bare the pains of people and help them recover from their pain turned him into a bitter, soul less individual because no matter how hard he tried... he couldn't fix all the problems in the world.

... Although [Jack] represents the psychological toll of what the life of a Salandran can do to an individual, his attitude is the polar opposite of what a Salandran should be.

A Salandran has four tennets to follow as you know. I could rant on for pages regarding each individual tennet that they follow and how it applies to all Salandrans... but every Salandran is different. Jack Galenson, Metalien Sikth, Sina Averest, Amenia Eletharion... all of them had a different view on what it meant to be a role model Salandran and your Salandran should be no different. There is just a single thing every Salandran player must know though and that is:

Every Salandran is an advocate for life.

The daily battle a Salandran fights is not for justice, freedom, power, honour, vengeance, truth or curiosity... its to allow all sentient beings from Banite to Tormite, Elf to Orc, to have a chance to live a naturally long life; free of the pains of disease, illness and injury. A Salandran by personality is compassionate and will do anything to preserve the lives of others, no matter what race, religion or alignment... even themselves if necessary.

The reason why I say it like that, is because that allows you as the Salandran to interpret what it means to uphold the four tennets:

-Is your Salandran the calm and contemplative doctor who strives to remove the clinical illnesses from his/her patients?

-Or are they the tireless nurse that spends their entire life learning the psychological pains of those under their care, getting involved in their life and helping them get back on track after great tragedies and psychological trauma?

-Or is your Salandran a vegetarian who spends their entire life time finding ways to create herbal recipes, drugs and analgesias to ease the suffering of pain?

-Or is your Salandran a courageous Templar, hunting down the Undeath in their grave yards before they get a chance to spread their disease?

The possibilities are endless. All you need to remember is that Salandrans are pro sentient life and will do anything to maintain it for everyone. It takes a compassionate character to be a Salandran... and I'm sure you'll think of something good.

I hope that helps. I can expand on it if I'm asked to... but don't expect a reply for 18 hours or so.

Thanks between that and reading the wiki section again more thoroughly, that should help me for the style that suits my pc (and thus also myself ;) )

Galenson's Jack was great to RP with imho.

However, when I had a Sallie I was told that they couldn't hunt unless it was undead as it would be considered wrong to defend oneself if my character had explored an area inhabited by other creatures. The creatures had a right to kill my character if my character was trespassing.

I couldn't figure out how to explore and find others to aid (or to level for that matter).

Is that still expected?

It's really up to you as to how you interpret the Salandran tenets.
It's a pretty wide definition.

It's completely up to interpretation. My Amenia was a pacifist (and a bit of a coward too), who would only fight undead (and occasionally heal monsters that the party was fighting).

I have a non-Salandran Salandran. If Peeves is all right with it, Elrien would have zero issue coming back to help the temple; she only left when she was forming her own House, but has since disbanded it.

I'll just be using this topic for everything ooc'ly sally related.

Thanks already for those that I've met; it makes it feel as if she really has a temple backing her up.

By now I reached the of course arbitrary ooc level to move into the status of an acolyte. Is this usually a natural progression or is there a ceremony, criteria, challenge to do so?

It's just a period of time to move to acolyte, but there is significant RP needed to become full priest/ess.

I don't know what's on the Wiki, but you can find Salandra's overview and the Stone Tablets of Salandra in R&L, and the Library forum has some IC theology by a PC.

I'm playing an Eldathian, and while the pacifism and exemption on undead come from different reasons, there's loads to talk about:
on when it's okay to defend yourself,
when entering the territory of wild animals makes it your fault if they feel provoked,
whether acting to preserve the most life might mean killing the head of a large army, and why you won't do that...

So he'll be visiting the Salandran Temple in the near future to find out how other people manage to stay pacifist :)

And here I thought you had made a topic about the Hin... I am disappoint...

In any case, all there is to know about Salandra can be found on the Amia wiki. Go there, read up and interpret at will!

P.S. Salndra sucks, go Ilmatari! ;) J/K, but not really.

No that was the reason why I finally allowed her to be cut off. Salandran rp is quite around there, just not always in the temple but by finding out the injured and diseased (cfr the tenents)
