So is anybody actually interested in this? It's basically a militant nature-based group, whose primary objective is not only to protect the natural cycle, but actively oppose those that might pose a threat to it. It's supposed to be more of a crusade, as the name implies, where its members are recruited out of passion and inspiration for an immediate cause, than a well-balanced circle of wise men and women.

I can think of a number of reasons for the lack of response, so please don't think I'm complaining. Far from it. I'm just seeing whether or not there is actual OOC interest among players in this type of faction. If not, it'll save me some effort that otherwise might have been spent elsewhere.

-Logicality

PS My apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

I think your problem is that there is already a long establish militant nature group on Amia.

Yeah, its also that from what I've read your not offering anything inordinately different to any of the other half a dozen militant factions. I'm not saying its a bad thing either, but I've already got factioned and I don't need the conflict of interest.

"problem" is probably the wrong word since it implies you're doing something wrong. You're not, there's just a faction that offers exactly what you do already and is already established.

There's nothing inherently wrong with this, it's just that there are already two nature factions and the players are already spread rather thin. If the Grove officially went the way of the Dodo, I would say you're on fire here and you have a good chance. But that's not the case so it complicates things and make chances for success -very- hard for you. Mind, these are my OOC feelings. You'll learn Willows feelings further when we continue our RP. :)

If you're really into it though, don't give up. But seriously, I think the only nature faction that can really thrive right now is one that caters to the Evil nature PC's; Malarites, Talassan, Talonites, Aurili, Umberleen, etc. -- since the Grove and Glade cover the Goodly and Neutral types.

You know I feel really stupid now. I assumed Disco was making a reference to Greys Anatomy.

Crusade is a terrible name to use anyway. It's strickly a Christian word. Crusade, derived from crucifix with is a cross with jesus attached. War of the Cross at its most literal translation. I don't think the word has a place in this setting.

But lets face it. The Amia server is spammed to death with nature cults and what do they achieve?

I feel stupid for continuing to not understand what jokes could come of the name. :|

I see your point about the name "Crusade" though.

Thank you for the food for thought.

Forgotten Realms uses the terms crusade and crusader a lot, hence its not strictly a christian word. The definition of crusade is also: "any holy war undertaken on behalf of a religious cause". Voila.

Aye but the name comes from crucifix as in the symbol of Christianity. And yes FR uses those terms alot but they also hold a rather modern point of view on religion and culture. But yes I think the point is clear that your concept is fun but its just an other nature faction.

So what? Even my Mulan used the phrase 'crusade', in the sense of holy war, like Phearnun said. You seem a bit oversensitive.

If were going to talk about the specifics of the word crusade as a purely christian thing, can I put out there that the word holocaust is only to be used as The Holocaust, referring to the deliberate killing of over 6 million Jews, as well as other groups? Just putting that out there. No? Anyone? Fail...

I can spam topics with word definitions too.

If we took out all the words that got their meanings from places completely unrelated to FR, we wouldn't have much of a language left.

Exactly. I see references to things that wouldnt exist in this rough time period all the time. For example, the word 'madness' is not really that old of a word. It is derived from, and in this time period would be, 'malady of spirit'. Also, the word standard changed during either world war one or two. Before then it meant 'excellent', and there was a car company in England called 'standard cars' that produced expensive cars. However, when every soldier had a 'standard' kit, it came to mean average. So are we going to go around using the word 'standard' as though it means excellent because no World Wars with 'standard' gear have occurred here?

Ridiculous.

Ignore the bozos and go with it if your character really wants to give it a go. It won't be easy though. ;)

The Grey Crusaders is perfectly fine.

Too bad an evil faction supporting the gods of fury, perhaps including Kossuth doesn't exist, at least to my knowledge. The Fabulous Fury Foursome plus One.. not too catchy.

Actually, the word crusade simply derives (via some steps) from the word cross, crux, not specifically a crucifix. And if you were to use holocaust in its accurate and original meaning, it would be in the context of sacrificial burning to Greek gods.

Every word has an origin tied to experience. Sometimes it's less obvious than other times, but it's never authentic because Common doesn't exist. For stylistic purposes, it's obviously best to use words that seem to us archaic or suitable in the Realms, but it's really only a gut feeling unless we constantly refer to FR books.

The word crux, originally derives from the french dog name "Croissant", which means "we don't take kindly to crescent stuff here, mate", which again refers to the moon and other types of butter.

im a historian, and in my professional oppion...i dont care..medieval history is abit like a broken pencil..pointless

crusade is a term used in reference to religius wars...you could call it the Grey Jihad instead, but as i doubt we have many muslims here i doubt very much it would come across with the same feeling of religius conflict as a crusade does..even though the the Jihads where largely more succesfull than the crusade..

I'm sorry: No.

Religious crusades do NOT have entertainment value in and of themselves.

Period.

They work as good settings for storytelling mayhap, but entertainment in and of themselves, No.

Sure they do. Don't be a PC prude. Besides, religious and political discussions are the reason the internet exists. I can't imagine many more entertaining things, off the top of my head!

I don't believe Kranium to be a professional historian, however. Either that, or he's being sarcastic. Or he has managed to get a degree but nobody took anything he published seriously and he went bitter. 8)

To be slightly on-topic: nature stuff is cool, but one of the cooler concept is perhaps a group of rangers and even clerics of some nature deities siding with civilization against the feral druids, believing that nature and humankind can live in harmony and it's best achieved through cultivating and caring for nature so that it becomes safe for humans. It doesn't sound like a concept with much tension, but in fact it's a devious device of subjecting nature to man. Especially cool in a setting where there's heavy conflict between druids and encroacing civilization.

I've no problem with religious OR political discussions, I'd just prefer them to be confined to their own threads. They have a nasty habit of getting topics locked.

And... that's actually a really interesting idea...
