My vote is: leave the messenger be, no matter how unofficial this poll is.
It's got potential. With its help you can pass (short) messages to other players without entering the game and be sure they will read them immediately. And that's very helpful for every workaholic out there who doesn't leave his work until midnight. Not to mention it can help you to decide whether to log in or not by browsing through the player list (Har! Har!). That might seem odd for casual players but for monster-players, banned from various places it's really a helper to see whether some other fellow souls of vicious appearance that we know are on-line or not.
If only could it allow to send messages longer that those blasted 127 chars... No clue why the devs have cut the limit so severely.
Nuff said.

No, just no. This is the ONE thing that you shouldn't be doing.

Why not? It's our life, Our time that WE invest in this game?

Why should i not have the right to choose my circle of friends to RP with.

Why should i not have the freedom to do as i please?

You can, if you want to be a selfish, non contributing member of a greater community willing to segregate yourself at the expense of everyone else and everything else you might take part in as a result of you choosing not to login unless people you deign "worthy" are also online.

The power of choice. Ultimately, it lies in the hands of the community, what -they- wish to do with their FREE Time.

But truth be told, Such comments make one -less- inclined to log in, as above posted.

I'm sorry, but I can and I will. And it doesn't mean I'm selfish like Tormak suggests. I'm just a person who has very little spare time. I enjoy to RP with everyone out there and I just love those random encounters when you bump into someone and it ends up with some cool role-play. But with those random encounters, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Here's the thing. If I log in when my friends aren't around, I would possibly end up as the only ugly ogre on the island with significantly narrowed opportunities for RP. Tell me, how many of you guys want to RP with an bloody repulsing ogrillion with an everlasting hunger? Not to mention his bad breath. My main toon fits the role of supporting character and that's what he has been made for. So it's convenient and necessary for me to log in only, or almost only, when my friends are around so we can crawl out of the cave and do some group RP with the strangers.

And being "worthy" or "unworthy"? Tormak, I've never perceived things that way, you know.

Nay.

I want to continue to send messages in game. And receive messages in game. Cause I use it as.... a messanger. :)

Forget about that aspect, honestly, instead its just plain stupidity on an OOC level. There are HEAPS of good roleplayers and even more interesting people. One of the most interesting things about amia is how you can go outside your own circle and randomly come across a group that are interesting, but very different. I was wandering around B yesterday, honestly just logged in for 10 mins to check out something and came across the Glade. They turned out to be pretty damn awesome.

Also, I get roleplay constantly as Qirlan and he is DIFFICULT to get along with.

So people will just check the Character List at the selection screen. Seems like a pointless change.

At least people are logging in if they can see their friends online, don't think its worthwhile removing that function which will more than likely mean they don't log in.

As above.

If enough majority cared to make it that people had to log-in without knowing who was one, the character selection screen would need the who's-online blacked out, the messenger removed, and the party-finder list take out as well.

Becuase even if you remove the messenger and log-in selection, people who only want to find certain people will log-in, check party list at entry, and log out not finding who they want.

Or you do all that, and we all start memorizing our /tell name commands to see if somebody is on. So remove that too.

Yeah, it's a lot of work isn't it? But people who want to play with just certain people will find their ways. Like MSN, AOL, and YIM messengers. Or Facebook, Myspace, or even Amia forums to arrange "we meet at this time" sceduling.

Pretty much a problem you could only reduce if the goal is to keep away those who RP just with those they want to. And Amia likes being friendlier than that. Heck, if they log in for specific RP, they are not subject to IC actions have IC consiquences. The consiquence? They live in a confined world when there is SO MUCH MORE! they are missing out on. And they are the only ones who're loosing out in the end.

Calling something stupid without understanding each and every person who does it's motives is stupid.

I vote no like the masses!

But in my case when I get ready to play Amia I playing Amia, I just use mesenger to figure out "which" PC to login with. I won't lie, if I see my friends on its a plus, and just because I may login to play "with" my friends doesn't mean I don't RP with the rest of the server. If a "new" character waltzes into the Dale I will always RP with them. It makes standing around a "mostly" empty Dale more bearable with at least one other friend to past the time until other people enter those gates to RP with.

Or, on the other hand I login to one of my lower lvls PC's, use my party ball and get to whacking the monsters of Amia and see what happens.

Either way I will still always login regardless of who's online.

It's a useful tool. Of course tools can be misused. Like killing someone with a shovel. But getting rid of shovels won't keep people from getting killed, it'll just make it harder to dig holes.
