The search function just doesn't work probably due to database size, don't think it's fixable unless older topics would be deleted.

The database must be huge though, 5 year old forum and Disco knows what else is in there.

Happens occasionally ... I find it helps to use less words.

Of course he knows, Between him, Tormy and Nekhy, they have made 1 out of every 5 posts on the forums

Technically it's 17.81% but yeah, it's a lot.

Why not just kill offtopic.
People don't even use Search there, they just make a new topic.
You could eliminate thousands upon thousands of posts just the last deleting 50 - 100 threads

I think he means just delete a few of the old, unused threads, but keep Off-topic, along with the newer threads. Unless I'm reading it wrong. >.>

Although Tormak certainly doesn't need me to speak for him.
That said, deleting the last few pages of Off Topic should clear up a lot of room, unless they are to be saved for 'historic' reasons?

This MOD provides some advanced options in pruning, for example choosing to leave sticky posts (even if they are outdated) unpruned, prune also the active votes (although they are outdated) or to prune outdated active votes and announcements.
Might be worth a look.

Another suggestion - would it be possible to create a separate 'Archived Threads' section, that wouldn't be checked by the forum search?

I have a feeling the largest amount of posts are on places unable to be see by us groundlings.
