No more than it should be allowed to mord and pvp people that walk around like that. GS on Amia aren't Etheralness afterall. And when people walk around in GS, completely invisible like that, it's either because they have hostile intentions to people, or other way around.

GS Hides you from enemies in battle, from what I've read on the Amia Mechanics thing. It doesn't hide you from people that you aren't in a fight with there and then. (the listing there, seem to focus on that setting to hostile is done in fights only, not 24/7)

And Hostile is only supposed to be used just before a fight. After it's already broken out, whoever started it, had the responsability of setting everyone to hostile.. if he/she didn't and gets GS bugged, then too bad. People that are attacked don't have to set to hostile before retaliating.

Hence, seeing a buffed up mage in GS walking around you, would probably be cause to attack since you're hostile and invisible to people. Especially when everyone that's been in more than 1 fight with a mage, knows that when they go poof from your eyes and ears.. it's because you're in a fight with them.

Also I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere, that using GS in such a way is quite illegal. Only supposed to be used in fights, so you can't use it to spy on someone and so on.

I was saying it's wrong, read it again Grave, ohhhh yes.. and no, you won't be able to see the individual who's got everyone on hostile and cast GS because the engine thinks your hostile, so you don't see him. Regardless of the RP mechanics, which are totally different, than the engine mechanics.

I guess I just like to assume that people follow normal PvP ethics(What -I- see as normal pvp ethics at least, since I read the last time the PvP rules topics popped up, that setting to hostile isn't auto agreeing that a fight breaks out then and there, but that RP can lead to the fight. And it should be treated as such, not the same as casting a spell. Especially since setting to hostile is more or less an OOC thing, and a char can't 'sense' it, unless a GSed person goes poof or similar.) and good behavior. I don't like to assume that everyone's opportunistic bastards.

Besides if they are, that's always remembered for future conflicts. And you can bring up previous fights where they did just that, if they whine when they loose in pvp.

That's awesome, you do that. Me? I've had enough of hostiling people "well before hand" and seeing those same people who usually stand in Cordor with no buffs now have every buff known to man.

I won't cheat and take advantage, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let anyone else, as well.

:)

Seeing assassinations allow one to forgo the general PVP rules (you don't need to give an out, don't need to rp beforehand and can attack out of stealth) it gives the assassin a large advantage both IC and OCc. What exactly counts as assassinating someone in this regard?

Can I decide that I am assassinating someone to avoid having to give him an out and break stealth, or does this only apply when someone hired me to do it? (can I ''hire'' myself and perform a hit on someone just because I want the drop on them basically)

Can I be sneaking around as drow and find a surface person having a picknick and decide to assassinate them right there?

Can I hire an assassin to kill anyone, like some random person I just met and don't like, or someone I never rped with but know off? (like, leader of a church, opposing factiom member) Can anyone assassinate or only prc assassins?

Since I've done a lot of assassinations I'll break it down for you:

1. Anyone can do assassinations, but stealth is a big part of it, so usually its rogue classes that do it.

2. The Assassination, for it to be one, has to have IC roleplay significance before hand. Most of the time, it is a contract killing, that is, gold given to the assassin by another PC, to kill another PC.

3. It could also, theoretically be say, a religious assassination, where the Cultist is assassinating on behalf of the Church, religious enemies.

4. In nearly all such cases, prior roleplay has been carried out before hand, there is an IC reason that furthers a storyline along and typically, the Mark has been stalked, watched, examined for quite a while, in some cases, my assassin character has followed another PC around for two weeks IRL, stalking and watching every little behaviour, looking for patterns of routineness, etc.

5. So the answer to nearly all your questions is intent. Assassination must be part of a plot or storyline and have reasonable grounds to ensure that its not griefing. Ask yourself this, if you had to stand in the dock, with a DM ban wand on you, what evidence do you have to justify the assassination? If your evidence is thin, then assassination isn't appropriate. If there's a lot of history to this prior, then you've clear grounds to conduct it.

So lastly, the Assassin is a consumate Artist. Your desire is to get the perfect kill, it must aspire to perfection and there must be story to it. No assassin worth their salt, is going to be bothering with random pvp. NO! Its not about that, its about the PERFECT KILL.

The PERFECT KILL, I define as, one in which:

1. Planning stage is perfect
2. The Assassin is undetected
3. The Assassin kills the target without the target suspecting, striking back or lasting more than 1 round.
4. The Assassin leaves their calling card
5. The Assassin evacuates the strike zone undetected

The Assassination PvP rules are to enhance Assassin RP, NOT to give you a licence to PvP without warning any old sod.

Sounds reasonable, wanted to be sure the rule can't be abused to grief or pvp. Dms got it in control seems. :)

That sums it up nicely.

Don't confuse "assassin RP" with "the perfect kill". The latter is (obviously) your IC view on assassination. It's how your assassin works. Others can do "assassin RP" without trying to achieve "perfection" as your character sees it.
So, keep in mind that |Assassin rp <> perfect kill|.
Stick with the red words though ;).

I used to think Assassin was stealth and killing, you had to take assassin rank to be an Assassin. Well thats a load of bull hockey. Xal is a former assassin class, I changed him to WM because sometimes the direct approach is the best approach. One hit, massive damage, death. He's a hired killer. Setting up a scene to make it look like an accident after the kill isn't hard, and requires little more then knowledge of the accident & what would be needed to make it look like that. Disguises are not hard, and generally more useful then HIPS to be honest. Certain spells and skills can see HIPS, they can't see through disguises.

Assassination can come in many varied forms. It's not all stealth and such. Thats one way, but not the only way. Knowledge is the ultimate win in Assassination. Not stealth.

Edit: I kinda went off topic with that, if this thread even has a topic anymore. Which it doesn't. Why is it still going? ...

The ONLY reason, why Assassin PRC is not effective on Amia, is for the prevalence of Freedom Gearsets and potions. Remove those and watch the rise in the class...

Anyway, yeah, you're right, we're right off topic. :P

I'm still trying to grasp at what now the topic is given it's been solved.

I believe we just drifted off into general discussion and tangents.
