I'm coming back to Amia from a rather long and unplanned hiatus due to extreme technical difficulties and real life getting in the way and I'm seeing all sorts of varying extreme (at least to me) notions on how to change Amia. I'm not talking about the HAKs, personally I think that's brilliant and about time (of course I'm still really a newbie to Amia so "about time" is relative) but the idea of perma death is startling to me. I'm sure there are about nine threads where this should go and I'll take hell for putting this in a new thread, but I'm not trying to start a debate I just want to throw in my two cents where I believe it will be seen. I'm fine with higher death penalties if you believe that will keep more players staying around, but I feel perma death will remove a lot of RP from characters. For starters I'm awful at building characters, I know it and don't care. The fact that I'm so bad at it makes me feel freer to build my characters based solely on an RP basis. A perma death situation would require people who intend on adventuring to start building the strongest builds possible simply to survive regardless of RP. I know there are many who already do this but I believe there would be more. I came to Amia by chance because a friend of mine found it this past spring and told me it was a great RP server, and it turns out he was right. I had barely started getting involved with the mainstream players and stories when things cut me off but I very much enjoyed the relaxed feel Amia gave to new players like me with time to get involved once you understood how things worked. I'm not saying if perma death or any other form of hardcore play style is introduced I'm leaving, I love this server and I intend on staying for as long as I can play, even if that means I have to take long unplanned breaks from it. But I can say for players like me who are genuinely more interested in creating characters than being the biggest bad asses in the world (or are just not very good in general) such far reaching drastic changes will make the game exponentially more difficult and will create a more MSN like experience for us because we want to have character interactions and personalities and every time we die we have to wait longer and longer before we can continue we'll just stay in towns where it's relatively safe. In the end I support whichever decision is made because I believe it will be made for the betterment of Amia and I'm fairly certain that's what everyone ultimately wants, but unless Amia is failing miserably (I've been gone so long I don't even know) I don't think major changes for the people who left because they didn't feel they were personally catered to is the right choice because you could be irrevocably shifting the opinions of so many other players who love Amia for what it is.

You have some good points, surely. But as you point out, there's already a topic about this. It appears the overwhelming majority is opposed to permadeath, so it looks almost certain that it's not going to happen for the forseeable future. No need to worry about that.

Alternative death penalties are being discussed in another topic. It seems the majority is in favor of something more effective. Whatever the final suggestion, I think it ought to be polled to see if people want it.

I'm locking this, because the issues are being addressed elsewhere.
