I have asked this question quite some time ago on the forums, but after much searching and banging my head against hard objects, I still cannot remember the answer. So I'd like to ask any shifters or druids out there this: How do shifters react to the undead? We know that druids immedietly bash their brains in, but are shifters any different? After all, they can shift into undead at high levels.

My minimal knowledge of lore suggests that shifters have to spend some time in the company of a creature to learn how to shift into it. I suppose technically bashing the brains of the undead while defending nature may count as this, but then, why would a druid/shifter want to shift into something he/she sees as an abomanation anyway?

I would also like to ask whether, should my druid/shifter decide to take the company of the undead, he would be allowed to RP the character as a shifter only, and not use any druidic spells or abilities. (Not sure how I could ignore feats, though I suppose most nature-type feats would be open to shifters if they were a base class (Yay, conjuncture)).

It would depend whether you decided to count your Druid lvls, if you did, then you should hate undead like all other Druids, but if you didn't count the druid lvls, it's upto you if you want your char to hate undead, assuming you aren't a Kelemvorite or something.

To all Druids, the dead represent a breach in the cycle of life. But how they react to it, that is different from Druid to Druid. If you feel that your character shouldn't be bashing its brains out, then don't. Just know that being a Druid means to be in tune with the natural forces and thus your disposition towards them cannot be positive. The negative spectrum is quite large. No one says a Druid can't use an already existing Undead to fulfill a certain goal before he dispatches of it, for example.

There are Druidic oaths, but there are also characters who are loners and haven't taken any oaths per se.. and still they have Druid levels. Shamans and certain priests could use the Druid class, for example.

Yes, you're allowed to use the Druid levels as a crutch to reach Shifter and play your character as a pure shapechanger with no other responsibilities. Of course, that means the more Druid levels you take the more you hamper your build, since you're unable to cast spells or use any Druid abilities.

Shifters themselves are, well.. they have their own thinking, and only you could tell why your character would shift into an Undead form. A shifted Undead is no affront to nature, because it's just a form... not a dead soul walking around. Course that'll still be a handful to explain to a fellow Druid.

As a general rule of thumb, druids don't like undead, but shifters don't have to be druids ICly afaik.

Shifters like rogues are versatile but there's a limit on how far you can go. Just remember that druid is a technical requirement and unlike paladh00m cheese, you need 5 levels and not just 1.

You're stuck with the same alignments as a druid too.

Actually, chaotic neutral believes in freedom of one's actions but opposes those who oppose the freedom of one's actions which really means you don't do what you want. Like Lawful Neutral, you've got a code to follow, it's just not the code that meshes with what everyone else wants hence the term "chaotic."

"Actually," Chaotic Neutral believes exactly what your Chaotic Neutral PC happens to believe, and that can be pretty much anything. It's completely between you and the DM.

Besides, if you don't RP your Druid levels (and don't use Druid abilities, of course), you don't even have to worry about the alignment. You can behave like your PC's personality dictates, and there's no codes you need to fear breaking. So you can be a Chaotic Evil or Lawful Good Shifter all you want, you just won't get the mechanical alignment shift until possibly max level, if you make a request for it.

any other good/neutral nature god: bash brains in.

other gods (all evil gods?): don't bash brains in.

It depends on deity, alignment, backstory, and you.
