Yeah the early going can be painful if you don't have a party, but it's not too bad! Depends on your build/char, of course, but early leveling tends to be easier than later on. Depending on your level you can go through the sewers, there is a quest there.

Basically, it goes like this: You start at 1, you get level 2 for free. Do the Cordor delivery quest and that takes you to level 3. Then you go into the sewers through the East Cordor grate (or Eouth Cordor grate) and talk to the Sewer Cleaner to get the next quest. That brings you to level 4. After that, you can decide to go off to the next quest or go to the goblins (my personal choice, I do the spider quest after killing the goblins). After goblins you should be around 5.
