This wouldn't be immersion breaking or metagame at all to me, personally. I think something like this is exactly what this server needs. I think this server needed it for a while now, in fact.
This sounds like one thing the concept sub-forum was made for.
It might be useful to make a curated thread for this, like davis did the build thread. People can post on their own something about their characters, with direct links to their personal story board thread or whatever, or concepts for groups of characters they would like to be involved in. Then it can all be linked back to one post with an index of active characters and currently recruiting proto-groups, so it's easier to look over without losing things in masses of posts. The wiki had something like this, with some old characters listed, but it seems easier to use the forums for it.
Challenge accepted. If I'm going to be an organizing nerd, I might as well go all out. Please use this thread to tell me what you want done from an organizational standpoint on the forums. Steer clear of the General Questions thread, since we're working on that in the Moderator forums.
If the quoted concept is something that you all want, we can start with that.
