So people without vampire PCs may freely invest in clones to insulate against death?

Good question.
Since such, in my opinion, would be more setting appropriate rather then Stones of Return and Dubious Doomguide.

... No, not really. We kind of just have to live with some sort of Respawn function, yeah, because death comes far more easily in NWN than intended in the P&P upon which the lore is based. It would be nice to explain it away as Clone spells, and then you have to deal with the explanation that there are banks filled with countless bodies of adventurers hidden in some pocket plane attached to the region...

... It's a fun idea, but I don't think Amia is ready for that level of creepyness.

Anyway, I guess if DMs are ready to police Clone useage intensely (that is, there'd be no room for players to give consent unless the PC contacts everyone who might possibly have a beef with the player in question) then by all means. IMO I think having True Resurrection as an option is enough, because clone spells lead to entrenchment of older/city-faction'd PCs making it much harder for new PCs to challenge them (goodbye valid IC reason to not be super belligerent when you're in a position of power!). Whereas Clone only for vampires makes it a bit of a weird double standard.

I have to agree with serbiris on this one. Allowing only one group to have access to a spell that logically anyone could cast with sufficient research is something I don't think makes sense, but giving players the infinite vault of clones excuse is just silly.

Well, I don't mind the entire plAyer base using the clone spell, as long as they agree to lose one level every time they die, or one level less than they were 2d4 months ago, whichever is more loss.

But why are we talking about the clone spell? Isn't this a vampire thread?

No, anyone can invest in clone spells and have it. Since the clone must be made when the PC is not undead. This was included because it was brought up as what would happen? Clone spells are not going to just be a free thing to say you have. If you wish to have a clone then it need to go through RP and the rest.

I even hoped it would bring RP for people to seek out mages to make them Clones of themselves to prep and Dodge death. I find it vastly more enjoyable than True Resurrection being used as the one and only spell people go through RP to return someone.

Only wizards and sorcerers with 8th circle spells can cast clone.

Anyone can invest in it. Go and find someone to make it for you. Mages can control the economy of clone making if they choose.

I feel the need to add my vote of approval with Travis' here. I think some of us, myself included, were a bit to busy asking "well what about me?" to really say this.

This is awesome, it means the Team is becoming more flexible in what they will allow for the sheer Adams sake of fun and variety.

I was not aware of this policy, because under DM supervision I casted Clone like.. a year and a half ago.

That is because it only recently was something discussed in more details. If you already did it with a DM supervising then you are ahead of the game. Congrats.

I had a thought on the whole arena PvP rule. As vampires are required to use arena pvp, should it not fall to the person refusing consent to flee the scene and not attempt to engage later with an army at their backs? I ask because otherwise vampires are defeated simply by being there and refusing consent. Then they're simply forced to leave or have their properties stripped. This seems counter intuitive to what was intended, giving us a new dynamic to play with that makes evil cooler in general. Instead they can just be very easily meta gamed into submission.

Do undead (not limited to vampires) possess an 'instinctive' fear to displays of positive energy? Being immune to disease and poison, and in many cases a fair amount of physical and elemental threats, undead genuinely have little to fear. However, positive energy appears to remain one of the few ways an undead might be (relatively easily) destroyed. In other words, positive energy is anathema in the 'racial' psychology of undead, its manifestation provoking intense, near supernatural fear.

Is this idea true and valid? Alternatively is it something that could be interesting to implement as an RP 'guideline' for undead and pale masters?

As a fan of role-playing with undead and fear, I'm dumbfounded that I never thought to ask myself this question.

Now that I think about it, it seems most undead (by most I mean by number not type) would fearlessly walk into their own destruction by positive energy to seek out their insatiable hunger for lifeforce.

In my opinion, more intelligent undead, like vampires, wraiths, and liches, would certainly show their fear of positive energy by cringing, avoidance, screeching, or fleeing the scene.

I'm not sure I would go throwing around positive energy in front of people roleplaying undead and expect them to role-play fear, but it is certainly something to consider when making role-playing decisions.

No? Turning undead, laying of hands, and healing are all channeling of positive energy, clerics and paladins do it in front of people all the time.

Yeah but isn't it kinda weird that undead (less intelligent especially) hunger for life force, but the very force which imbues life in things can destroy them? I know, physically there are different forces at play, and I think in reality most undead want to extinguish the spark of life rather than consume it. Or maybe it's kinda like I can happily eat a burger with a slice of meat no bigger than my face, but if faced with a raging bull I'd be bolting, not biting.

It's probably tangentially related to the same sort of logic as hell being a place of fire and brimstone, but servants of the devil were somehow cleansed with fire.
