Is there a correlation between the number of requests and the number of rules being enforced regularly?

I dunno, just food for thought.

you need far more variabels to answer that question.

This is way too unspecific to really be a question. Number of requests posted? Approved? Denied? Number of rules enforced as in, how many rule infringements are regularly punished? There can't be a correlation if you leave it the way you initially phrased it, because there are about 10,000 request threads and a hugely smaller number of rules for us to enforce.

Is your question actually "Is there a correlation between the number of rule infringements incurred by a player and the chances of their request being approved?" Because that's the only obvious correlation I could see coming from these two topics.

Maybe I just had to much time in the heat working today, but I don't have any idea where you are going with the question/comment of the thread topic.

...Because they want something that requires a request to be given? You're being way too vague.

Joe, it seems like you are posing questions as if we have already been present for the internal discussion that lead up to your posting them. We need some context to understand what you are talking about and actually asking, then we can enjoy thinking about them and see about providing you answers and discussion on them. If you can explain more fully what it is you are asking, then we can move on to the responding part. :D

Usually to get some form of customization for their character? And to get permission to play something that requires a request? Are you trying to get us to come to the conclusion that... like, the number of requests are increasing because the number of things that need to be requested are increasing? I can only speculate because I'm not sure what you even mean by "rules enforcement."

Well, when I thought about these questions, that's pretty close to my internal speculation thought path as well. It's just something I thought about as I was reading through the requests. I was like, "wow, there's a lot of people that want a lot of really cool stuff." I was surprised that that would be happening after a slight player population drop.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to get anyone to come to a conclusion, I'm just trying to get people to think about these questions.

We've always had a lot of requests really.

There's even more than you can publically see too.

Is there a particular reason you want us to be thinking about these questions? I don't see any particular benefit into giving this specifically a lot of thought, but if you've got something in mind for why we should be thinking about it, I'd be interested to know what that is. Usually when people ask others to think about questions like this, there's something they're trying to point out (not necessarily a conclusion, but a line of thought) and I'm not sure what that is here.

Well, yes there is a particular reason, and I thought I said it, but I'll use different words this time. I was looking through the requests on the forum, because I heard there were some interesting requests going on, and I was amazed at how many requests there were. I also noticed a slightly lower player base than last time I was on, and I was trying to figure out how the player base was lowering while the number of requests remained the same or increased.

Then I got inspired to post this thread from those thoughts to see if we could have a conversation about it and figure it out together.

Is that not enough of reason to start a thread in "general discussion" or should we move this to "off topic?"

I personally would love it if the reason were all the guides I wrote to show what can be done with what, along with trying to structure requests a bit better and make it a bit easier to get a sense of what goes and what doesn't by giving some item balance examples.

Alas that likely is more wishful thinking.

I think a main reason is that we reduced quite a few DC request prices and that many people who are still on our server are long time players who have a bigger need to individualize their characters or give them something new after some time.

Alas just speculation. To really know those who made requests lately would need to post and state why they did so!

As a player I would say this. The DC reductions are a huge deal as far as I am concerned.

Also for the record your request guides are amazing.

hrm... actually, it may not be wishful thinking. I mean I fell upon your guides when I was trying to put together my requests... actually I think your guides may be why my request turned into 3 requests... lol.

Hey Joe!

Amarice kinda hit the nail on this one, There are quite a few long term players that have been on the server that would like some variance in their characters, There are many ways to enhance or change your character.

I'll give you a common few examples i've seen regularly requested recently:
 Rebuilds
 Prestige classes.
 Bottled companions
 Summon reskin.
 Plc & Vfx requests too.

Of course I only speak from personal experience, but I really enjoy making requests and taking the time to make sure they fit in the setting, Plan the roleplay etc etc. It gives you something to do and get excited about (Although some people hate making them!).

Now for the newer players, You do notice a lot of rebuilds take place but then they may like to request cool stuff too like the above but arn't too familiar with the boundries, forums etc etc due to being new on the scene.
I would really want to encourage this with newer players too.

Again going back to Ama's point, Her guides do give a good outline on the "How to" which may encourage some of the more shy players or ones that dont use the forums too much.

but all in all, I have noticed a lot more requests, Especially PRC's. I would love to see more of this about, Customization!

I think your guides are a HUGE reason, Amarice. Give yourself some credit! They are awesome.

On top of that, Wrath hits another mark in bringing up the PRCs. Those weren't always necessary to request, but now they are. I'm sure that ups it some.

I don't want to, but too often I interpret it as "people not being happy or content with what they have". Such a thing shouldn't bother me at all, but it does, and I'm not sure why. It is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged to shoot for what you want and most of the players truly deserve it. But in my head I keep relating a request to unhappiness or discontent. Which may account for why I made so very few requests as a player.

When everyone seems to have their own idea about how much of any one thing they like, or will tolerate, and that becomes how it is, Yoss, there's only so far you can push before you may as well toss the idea completely regardless of how much time or effort you've put into it. I think the origin of what you're saying has more to do with the fact that there's not set global guidelines, but rather things are analyzed on an individual basis, which leaves people sometimes feeling short-changed; because by human nature, we're biased. I think of it like a bunch of interlinking venn diagrams. The more ones that overlap, the better received it will be, and the more flexibility it will have. Personally, I wish it was more of a over-arching circle, but that's just me :).

A correlation only requires 2 variables and an identifier to pair them, in this case it would be date or aggregated dates.

You do not remotely need any more variables to find a correlation. But correlation does not imply causation.

Now to perform a multiple regression you will need more variables (at least 1 more- preferably 3-4 more) and this helps the strength of the model and to remove white-noise from your statistics. You would also probably want to do a lag-analysis. I could go on for days though, so I'll hush.

I've never noticed any linking between requests and enforcement. I'm someone who has walked the tight-rope on requests power and on getting close to grey areas on rules a few times and I'm pretty sure each request has been looked at independently and on its own accord.

*whap* dont get me started on background variables and confounders!

in either case, I dont see any problems in what the dm's are doing at the moment, I myself have not made many requests but ive found judgement to be almost allways fair, and rarely have a flat out no been given.
