Hey now, no need to stop buying entirely. Given how low stocks those merchants have, it's almost a given that they'll be sold out of a lot of stuff. It's just when I repeatedly see everything grayed out that it starts to grate a bit, you know?
But hey, if it's for IC reasons then that's fair enough.

If your character is in need of materials that the NPC merchants are out of, they might consider trying to purchase from PC merchants of that type!

It's sorta for IC. Hork, my character, just loves to hog materials he may need in the future. Currently he needs certain ones incapable of gaining IC.

I'd remove those merchant's stocks entirely. They are beating the purpose of job system goods trade among the PC.

There's a whole world of NPCs out there doing these menial jobs. It makes no sense that you wouldn't be able to buy them without tracking down a PC who's willing to bore themselves to death for hours just to get a 10,000 GP worth of wood. Using PCs only is a wretched experience. I posted, for months, trying to get ANYONE who had these jobs to get me supplies, offering far more than the merchants give you for them, but I still couldn't get anyone to really put in the grind needed to accumulate any.
So, it's probably partially my fault there's never any supplies at the merchants. If there's any left when I log in, I buy them all up. There's probably a few other PCs out there doing this, since sometimes I show up and they're wiped out. Certain ores are popular, as are the stonework building materials. I've noticed these have more of a likelihood to be gone. Most of the time, the wood's there.

And, if there are any folks out there who like to stand in front of rocks or trees for hours, I'll pay you double rounded up to the nearest hundred for them.

I'd rather they were instanced. As in, the merchant had 1 to 3 of anything to sell to a given player rather than the entire server.
Or...
They randomly get restocked throughout the day rather than reboot only. It's kind of screwy that if you can never play after a reboot (which usually happens the same times everyday) that you will get shafted against "that one guy who logs in every reboot and wipes out inventory seconds after every bloody reboot."

Removing the stocks would screw over everyone because of how bad the job system needs to total remake. Lets put it this way World of Warcraft has what 7 million people playing with 11 professions and you can max 2 of them per person. We have like 75 jobs that each go up to 3 ranks that change our rate of failure, given we get 30 job system points we can only max one of our jobs, then factor in if you have a gatherer based job you will have to also take said trader job to hold said resources. Now top it off with our very limited player base, limited gathering nodes (that only respawn every 8 hour reset/server crash) and poor pay off even against killing the lowest level mobs (I'm talking rats and goblins here) or that it has a 2min cooldown connected to each node.

Well, all of the NPC's who share this job, as all other NPCs that are apart of the job system selling materials stores are connected. You buy out one's stock, all other NPC's stock is sold. Also, Kenneth, I play a Stonemason and Lumberjack. Same character. I've got 22 levels through the system. Spent more than a few hours infront of Trees.

Oh, here's something I've been wondering, on this subject: when a PC sells something to the merchants, does that become part of the stock and remain persistent past resets?
I've noticed some materials (not all) will increase by, say, 1 or so per reset, and if you let them go for a day or two without buying them up, you'll have more than 1 or 2. I'm not sure if this is the system automatically adding a one every reset, or if people are actually selling items into the system.
Mainly, I've noticed this on diamonds. I've noticed they can get up past 8. The wood and ores don't seem to ever get up past 2 or 3.

That would be PCs selling into the system. It does persist past resets if no one buys it out. It's the reason certain job merchants have a bazillion of certain things - because those farming jobs are so XP-friendly that there's a ridiculous surplus of the things people can't use to make other things. I saw over a thousand of an item at a job merchant once. It was an item easily farmed, but that couldn't be used easily by itself to make something else in high volumes.

Oh, that's kind of cool. I've never seen thousands, but I've seen a couple get up towards 100. Mercury and Obsidian, I believe.
