I've been in publishing longer than I care to mention - both on the writing and editing side of it - and it honestly doesn't bother me how people type or what they write as long as they make a decent effort. My only pet peeve is negative ooc, especially my own. Ha! When I start to see that creep up, I take a break.

I wouldn't expect your typical player to know "Medieval Speak" or "Dark Ages Slang". A lot of people misquote or misuse it anyway when they say things "Thou art". I guess the best way to solve an immersion issue like this is to instead of necessarily disallowing it since it's doomed to happen, espescially for noobs we should make a help thread for these sort of things... basically a nice little list of words and phrases for players to look at and try to use in their IC vocabulary. I'll list an example conversion.

Dead did this in his first post which is the right idea. I'm just saying instead of outright telling people what not to type it's better to educate to help them to type appropriately.
I'd like to also make note that certain words and phrases are not as "modern" as we think they are. Apparently forms of the word "Fuck" have been known to be used before the 1800's. Infact the first known use of a term/word like that was used in 1475, and there is a latin form of the word fuck; As a verb no less.
And certain words such as "Bastard" have very different meanings to their modern day use... infact I"m pretty sure Bastard wasn't always a curse word or slang word. As it referred to a bastard child.
You can not convey emotion through writing as well as you think. Other players are not mind readers, they can not read your speech as morose or angered, they read it as words in their own head with their own voice. And it is because of this that players utilise other means of instilling that dramatic effect on other players; vulgarity. Nothing says your PC despises another PC better than saying "Go fuck yourself" as opposed to "Sod off, git".
I write how my characters would talk, this includes incorrect grammar because that denotes how I want you to read what and how my character is saying what she is. For example;
"I will not speak with that... Thing!" Or "If you ever.. Do that again.. I. will kill you"
It's much less tedious than
"If you ever *brief pause* Do that again *brief pause* I *even briefer pause* will kill you.
I do the exact same thing with periods all the time to convey inflection in tone. It forces most people to pause just out of habit

The Forgotten Realms is such a huge mixture of IC cultures that anyone who spends time in the vicinity of a major trade hub like Cordor could probably learn a new slang word every day for the rest of their life. FR slang should be such a bewildering amalgam of different language patterns that the idea that any one specific slang word might sound out of place is kind of absurd. Really, just ask yourself, "Did I understand what that character just said?" If yes, then just let it go. "You're RPing your character wrong and you need to do it my way instead" is not a stance that gets much traction with me.

Regarding medieval obscenities, the idea that people were somehow more formal and euphemistic is misguided. Apparently (Peter Ackroyd doesn't cite his sources, which is infuriating) friends were described in late-medieval England as "shitting out of the same arse". In a highly literary, elaborate theological treatise I am working on in my thesis, the author says nonchalantly "the beauty of woman is struck down into shit" (with beautiful alliteration, which is Rolle's thing, in "forma feminae in fimum feritur"). Being formal and beating around the bush is a modern bourgeois peculiarity. There is no reason why a dirty dwarf in a gritty fantasy world would not say "fuck this shit" when theologians of the 14th century wouldn't blink at something like that.

Sidenote on topic: I love writing things that can be taken many ways on purpose. That's real fucking life. I'll capitalize or italicizes or ellipses for some drama, but too much fucking with semantics and sentence structure is tedious. As are the incessant breath pauses. One thing I LOVE to focus on is eye contact and the direction my characters are looking. Others don't and that's okay-- but I find it to be a very telling sign in reality and I love RP realism.
As for actions vs. words. Yoss is being rude. He loves his words. I did find your DMing to be more action oriented than the character Yossarin, but, I think perhaps Yossarin's words are partially to disguise/accent his desired and/or visualized actions. I always wonder how much more detailed it gets in his (your) head. (And then my brain explodes.)
Aggie speak is a variant of Common inspired by Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, for those of your privileged enough to know Aggie or have been nearby when she speaks if you find you can't decipher it just head over to youtube and check that film out. As to the original topic, I wish you well trying to stimulate reasoned chatter about chattering, but given that this server is filled to bursting with old sweaty veteran elite meh etc etc players who occasionally blurt out Tourette's style token RP outside the Dale to break up their ooc party chat spam and afking, but I don't think you will get far with a wide audience
I think you are right in any traditional D&D setting the language should be more period based, but Amia is so far removed from anything approaching a traditional setting and is far more cosmopolitan in its make up and outlook.
You only need read off a list of common as dirt (in Amia) races and classes that are concentrated here far more than they would be in any PnP setting, Assimar, check, dragon wannabes, check, kobolds, check, goblins, check, full orcs (so they claim), check, paladin ninja monktards, check etc etc ad nauseam the list goes on.
Sad to say but this old sweaty veteran elite meh etc etc player feels that things that were considered bad habits when I was new to this server have, for lack of correction by DMs at that time become the defacto base line for what is acceptable and desirable on the server.
OOC "/" chatter Party chatter Being IC hostiled for not following the OOC party chat loot order Inventing world lore that only the author's character can possibly know and/or setting impossibly high lore DC in order to OOCly know "their" personal world lore......(think about it ) Not knowing the pvp rules and filling the screen with ooc whine when they loose ~And~ contemporary language bleeding into D&D language are all part of the new status quo.
These things are all the norm now and I have frankly given up trying to convince my fellow players because I'm tired of the OOC aggro and hostility it often generates regardless of how you approach the player, I've even had to occasionally report players to the DMs for their outrageous language and attitude when presented with evidence of how far they are from the rules and expectations of the server. (usually by quoting the rule/s directly or by trying to direct them to the rules so they can educate themselves if they don't want to take my word for it.) But that's not something I want to do or enjoy doing.
Right now we have lots of lovely scripted over complicated plots which is all gumdrop smiles but I personally would like to see the server rules brought right up to date and made clearer and more unequivocal and see DMs abroad in the game enforcing the standard the rules are there to uphold.
Just rereading this and of course I have started to wander about it a bit in trying to explain my point of view, I plead the fact its 0130hrs and I'm apparently unable to sleep and massively overtire.
If I offended anyone, tough.
