Hi there. Old, old D&D player, just old NWN player. I love the server! I love the website! Deep and rich are the first two words that come to mind. I've enjoyed the last three days here at Amia. I really haven't been able to roleplay much - I hope those that have interacted with me have been satisfied (dare I say delighted? )
Now, I have a few teeny observations / criticisms. I am confident that I will be given new information and that I will gain an understanding as to the whys of "why" something is done.
"It's all about Undead"
I couldn't turn an undead creature if my life (my character died!) depended on it. Granted, Paladins turn at lower levels but he's a rock star (20 CHA, 6th level) - throw a Holy Roller a bone here! Every turning attempt failed. (Zombies and a certain undead guy at a certain abandoned inn as well)
I got killed by a bunch of loser zombies!! What?! I had been chopping through adolescent dire spiders, packs and packs of wolves, a veritable horde of goblins. And then came along a little band of zombies. What's that? Acid?? OK, quick turn them! What? I couldn't turn those losers? What! Where did all my hitpoints go!
A 6th level "moderately" equipped Paladin got beat up by some zombies? What gives, Amia? (Please don't take this as an angry rant, I really want to know but thought I'd have a little fun while I did).
That's my only quirk so far Love the place. Bye for now!
But also, yes. You're right turning on Amia has always been something that wasn't spot on! Oh and welcome to Amia!

You'll also find there is a vast jump in CR in some areas. Acid-spitting zombies, I assume you're talking about Caraigh, which at the moment is a CL 5-10 area at daytime, and a May-Your-God-Have-Mercy-on-Your-Soul CR at nighttime.
Yep, that's the spot! It looks like spawning some skeletal fellahs now - found this old ruined town - the demons weren't too tough! The skeletons made quick work of me though. Time for a breather and back to the main city (hopefully I can find a party there!)
Thanks! Actually, I think it's relegated to a specific area - I was able to turn a couple of skellies north of Cordor - man those mofos are tough though! haha
Yeah Caraigh undead are definitely CR 10+. I was able to handle the skellys and zombies around level 10-12, but run from the hags and knights until epic.
I think it's making some sense from what I've found out ingame about Caraigh (as it relates to the undead). The backstory would seem to indicate why they're so tough!

Caraigh isn't a recommended hunting area for anyone at the moment! my puny max lvl can't handle a single skeletal knight, but those just appear at night. On the other hand, the IG hours from day to night pass quickly when you hunt! so staying away from Caraigh aside for rp, is my best advice regarding that area.

Undeath to death works on some and not others. For some reason there are multiple type of undead, instead of just being undead. Some issues with the bones familiar as well. It's undead but immune to heal and all other normal treatment of undead.

Thanks for the tips and welcome out of game and in game! I'm having a 99.9% success rate here! Now, if I can get my youngin' to not get nervous when she role plays around "other people" she'll be in for a blast!
Biggest suggestion I have there is for her to pick something simple conceptually to start with. Forgotten Realms and Amia has a lot of lore backing to it, and if you pick something with more detail like a Red Wizard of Thay or a Dragon Disciple, there's a lot of lore to learn and people will sometimes call you out on things. So if there's any nervousness about RPing with others, keep it to something straightforward until she's more comfortable with the setting; a rogue from a un-named small town that she had to flee due to being caught by the guards and escaping, or a tanner whose business went under in the big city and he took the last of his coin to sail to new horizons and try his luck as a fortune-seeking adventurer, things like that. Equally as rich possibilities for the character, but not as much intimidating lore to know to necessitate the RP.
I have to vouch for what Glim said. I had never tried a character with the Elves, so when I decided to I made a character who had a simple concept: Wood Elf Archer. I was surprised how the character evolved from there to not be overly unique or special in backstory, race, or profession, into a character other elves will recognize-- albeit not always for good things.
I have found that the most humble beginnings make for the best trips so far on Amia.
I wanted her to start out with something like that - a fighter or a rogue. I came up with "Dalelands" for her background just the other day. She "insisted" on being a wizard, whuddya gonna do?! haha. We're working on it.
Novice wizards? Learn from other wizards! Learn the lore while creating roleplay for yourself and others.
This.
Thats what I am doing on my wizard and slowly over a period of six months through ingame lessons and events he is transforming from a shy bookish boy to a slightly less shy bookish more powerfull boy.
I am so proud of him!
Back to serious: Trying to keep pace between development and levelling is hard as the first fifteen levels are fast and you'll be casting ninth level spells soon. Just don't think your toon is an archmage because he/ she knows a wail of the banshee because its no distinction if about everyone can do it. Don't tie advancement to spell levels. I can also recommand picking a familiar that fits the wizard with care as interacting with it for me really adds to the roleplay.

All good suggestions - just have to get her out of the shell so to speak and start interacting - once over that hurdle, things should progress nicely
Of course, running into the occasional rude, anti-social Jack Wagon (yes, there are one or two! ) can cause big setbacks. By and large - everyone has been super nice to her
