Is there a merchant that buys the things that an archeologist finds that he can not turn into books (everything but the peculiar skull apparently)? Also is there a merchant that sells the items the various "researcher" jobs need to perform research? I am taking "scholar" type jobs with my mage and have found them much harder to use than the jobs I've taken with my melee types (usually miner, gemcrafter, refiner, etc).

If I remember correctly: yes!

To a certain extent, yes. But these can be divided into multiple merchants. It's true that the items are usually less straightforward and harder to come by. I do believe the xp gain is somewhat higher for them but I'm not too sure about that. A nice advantage is that these jobs often give you a more intricate purpose on the server which can be a nice complement to your rp. It gives a bookish character a reason to go out into the wild and test the theory to the reality.

You can also take the things to a historian who can analyze it! ;)
