They sent a file. Just copy past it into the nwn folder and replace the one in there.
After that, make sure that your friend gets the new cd-key matched to the Amia account.

On a semi related, but not really, note... my desktop that I play on is getting really old but I have a newish MacBook Pro. I can't find anywhere to buy this game for mac unless I want to buy each expansion separate for $20+ each. That's silly when I can get diamond for windows for $10. GOG doesn't even have it for mac it seems. Does anyone legally play on mac that didn't have to spend $80?

I use Parallels and a window's copy of NWN.

Yep, parallels, or bootcamp, or you install Snow Leopard on a partition and run the mac version.

When we moved to OSX Lion (10.7), there was a drop of the Rosetta translator, so the original NwN app (not a universal binary) is no longer supported.

I'm running the mac version (bought 10 years ago) on a 2007 MBPro with snow leopard and the recent hak additions, tree leaves, city dust etc... Tend to not mix well with this old rig.

I also miss the toolset in the mac version of course.
