I have a new character. She's a lot of fun so far. She's Elven, ftr/rog/ soon to be WM. She is a follower of Corellon, and her backstory is that she was orphaned as a baby, taken in by the Temple of Corellon in Winya and raised there to be a Preistess, which, didn't take. She left to find her way in the world. There's more, but that's the gist, essentially a happy person, with no major grudges and nothing uber about her.

I looked into the job system. Being a follower of Corellon and Elven in general, I would think she would have a strong appreciation for, if not some amount of talent in the performing and creative arts. I was considering taking Performer and Painter as jobs for her. Her CHA is "above average". It's 12. I plan to acquire CHA and perform gear just for the purpose of RPing her jobs when appropriate to do so.

My question is this....

Is it cheesy to be a performer without having bard levels? One one hand I say it is. Then.... I think this way: I know a lot of people who can draw, sing, write, etc who don't do it for a living. Then again, I know several who do. A bard, to me, has a mystical, genetic sense about the arts, they don't just perform, they "are" the art. So I was thinking that my performer would be only as good as her perform skill can take her. That is to say, never at the level of even a mid-range bard. She'd be entertaining, but.... that's as far as it goes.

Anyone care to give an opinion?

Performer was specifically meant for non-bards as a substitute for Minstrel.

And no, there's nothing cheesy about it. What would be cheesy is if you needed to be a magical spellsinger and adventurer to be able to perform. The jobs are all rather mundane and fit anyone regardless of class levels. A Fighter could be a Theologer, a Wizard could be a Miner, and so on.

Character Portraits!

Well, when we are at this, I'd like to ask about Jobs and skill points. Are those connected in any way - aka is character with Weapon Smith job required to have ranks in Craft Weapon? Considering skill is only used for mythaling gear. Also, what about jobs that don't have corresponding skills like stonemason or cook?
