I have a question that is very relevant to my caster characters play style. It is regarding spell Greater Dispelling.

My experience is that the Mind Flayers cast Greater Gispelling and dispel 1 or more (probably up to 3) magical properties on my character. I am CL 23. I have a few questions about the mechanics of their dispel that I was hoping someone could shed some light on.

1) If they are targeting me as a single target, a successful dispel would strip all of my "spell" enchantments and a failure would do nothing. Is this true?
2) If they are targeting an area of effect, a successful dispel would remove 1 "spell" enchantment which is the most powerful. Is this true?
3) CL's of 24 are immune to Greater Dispelling because of the d20+15 cap of Greater Dispelling which means a dispel on CL 23 should only be successful on a roll of a 20 on a d20. (Greater Dispelling seems to be successful on me much more than this)
4) Greater Dispelling should always strip all spell enchantments or 1 spell enchantment but never a number like say 3.

Understanding this mechanism is very important to my character play style and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

AFAIK it rolls separately for each spell on you rather than rolling once - I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure that that's how it works. I'm not sure which enchantments are prioritised by Area Dispel, but I think it's just the last one cast on you.

NWN WIKI is your friend: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Dispel

TLDR: Each spell active on you gets it's own roll to see if it's dispelled. If it's used as an area, then it only checks against your most powerful active spell. Spells are prioritized by a set list (which I can't seem to find at the moment). I wouldn't be surprised if they are prioritized in the same order as Breach spells, but I'm not certain. The probability discrepancies you're seeing is due to NWN faulty random number generator. It's not really random, but based off a "seed" created by the area you're in. It creates inconsistent probability at best. Losing 2-3 buffs out of a dozen if you're level 23 is about normal for NWN dice.

I did read all of the wiki content regarding dispel of all kinds. Although I did not think about each spell effect having an individual check, it is because of the wording of the wiki description. I think that is exactly mechanism. I probably cast more than 20 spells so 1-3 dispel effects is not so far off of the expectation. I will need to gain 1 more CL and should be unaffected there after. Thanks to everyone.
