Hello there !

I just discovered now that Arcane dissipation on potions, for example, are not allowed anymore. The problem is that half of Amians, if not almost 100%, have some sort of UMD, including paladins. I don't know if it's just a point of view, but my first paladin had rogue lvls, sneak attack and UMD thing. After playing a while I noticed that something was wrong on that and, so I decided to change it to monk lvls instead.

So, my current paladin has no UMD which sucks a bit since you can't use wands with improved invisibility and that helps a lot. But now even those potions that would grant paladins without UMD some advantage are now gone, because anyone can't brew potions of lvl 4 or higher. But you can still craft improved invisibility (that's lvl 4) onto a wand. So I wonder what's the point on it ? It won't prevent power builds to use that sort of spell. They won't require a cleric to cast it on them, they can just continue on buying it. That only affects builds that (in my point of view) are more connected to a concrete line (such as paladin without rogue lvls).

I would like you to please take another look regarding the necessary spell lvl cap to brew potions. Perhaps low it from wands too, so it would match the potions ?

I really appreciate your concern.

Um... really not sure what you're talking about / trying to have changed here to be honest. Nothing's changed about brewing potions and crafting wands in at least a year, probably a lot longer than that.

Someone just told me today that you cannot craft potions like Arcane dissipation that has Less Spell Mantle lvl 9 on it anymore. That Wands are cap to lvl 4 and potions cap to lvl 3 max. But my toons have those potions lvl 9 and so.

Those Arcane Dissipation potions were a custom thing for a past character as far as I know. They weren't available through the standard Brew Potion feat.

So actually you can brew potions such as those with improved invisibility ? There is no cap to lvl 3 ?

You're talking about Vyashir's potions, Alamut. He had a specialized DC-costed custom spawner.

Sorry then. I guess a caster in game misunderstood that and told me improved invisibility can't be made in potions doing lvl restriction.

You can't make Improved Invisibility Potions. If you want better consumables, pick up UMD. That's how the server is balanced. Want the nicer things, invest in the skill to use them.

Why not ? I fail to see the reason you can make it into a wand and not into a potion ! That's the point.

It's a DnD mechanic, someone posted the link to the nwn wiki on it already.

or he could invent something new like the player made custom potions.

Well. yeah, it's something DnD related. Sorry the misunderstanding, since someone said it was changed so I took it would be outside the game, not a mechanism related to the game, according to the link.

*kisses and hugs corypx* You're my best boney. Thanks for the food.

Don't have UMD and want the spell? Ask someone who can use a wand of improved invisiblity or a caster friend to use it on you. Having friends and allies is a great thing on a RP server.

Yeah, you're right, Thoice. That's why I think a paladin without rogue levels approach more to that concept of RP server. I was being silly on requesting that to be equal, since fighters need someone to cast GMW on them. But this is not a "balancing thread", no. Just a misunderstanding regarding what's possible or not to craft. I couldn't understand the difference between potions and wands, I thought it was something made up to reach a balance but again it's a DnD thing.

It's a NWN mechanics thing. It's why Robertitoner needed to have the custom scripted item.
You can bottle lvl 0-3 spells.
You can wand lvl 0-4 spells
You can scroll lvl 0-9 spells.

(That, and Paladin + Rogue = NO. </soapbox>)

:)
