Metagaming your comrade's location and going to rescue them without any RP that points you in their direction is bad, in my opinion. Them telling you OOC exactly what's going on so you can run to the rescue is even worse.

That was mostly what I was getting at - I'm afraid my attempts at satire and such fall flat quite often.

Did I mention I find it surreal when adventurers who are used to hacking evil PCs into pieces, lighting their corpses on fire, and looting them suddenly gasp because I suggested doing the same to a questionably good character who assaulted me?

Maybe it's a natural double standard, but it makes me want to simply invent bad guys who are bad for the sake of being bad. The Teen rating of the server makes for a hell of a handicap though.

Well... we are actually not Teen rated. We are Mature, or something. NC-17 or whatever. Cause we are totally edgy.
But seriously, darken things up a bit if you want :D

Would this conversation right there have happened in game and ICly, your response would have been a beautiful example of the nuthead-players out there.

They are always trying to be witty, unable to act things out and instead making a joke out of everything, but the "bravery" of responding in game to someone in that manner is mostly just childish, silly and downright stupid. It would be alright if it was just one character, but it is a major phenomena, probably because they know it will have no consequences.

One more reason why trying to portrait a serious evil character is pointless, it won't work in a world without fear and consequence.

The moment a paladin went up to me and started out on me like a swearing southpark brat, I knew for sure that my character would never work.

O.o Well that's just stupid. And not on your end, I mean.

I get what you mean now, and yeah that's just silly. And by silly I mean, well I think you know what I mean :/
I have a char that is more of a jaded warrior when it comes to death, true.
I also have a char, my cleric Salema, that has been known to freak out upon being brought back from death. Sometimes she can handle it, others she cannot. I suppose that's way out of the norm? D:
As a side note, I like properly RPing being resurrected. It's a fun short bit of RP. Tyrus, my 'jadded one', usually recovers quickly because he likely knew death was possible in what he was doing (epic hunting with someone, or soloing flayers, etc). Salema takes longer more often than not, and usually needs to be 'calmed down', etc

lol I suck xD

My opinion is not limited to roleplay only because I believe that one can be the best roleplayer in the world, but if he is an OOC jerk, it is all for nothing. So here is my list of what makes one a quality player:

Never complaining OOC about anything that happens IC
Understanding the rules and following them at all times
Being friendly OOC
Never ever metagaming
Never ever brown-nosing
Never ever being a hypocrite *glances at certain someone in this thread*

Understanding and properly RPing a class
Understanding and properly RPing a race (subrace)
Understanding and properly RPing alignment
Understanding and properly RPing religion

Devotion to character(s)
Not being PvP happy
Accepting defeat in PvP
Accepting defeat in RP (bringing a character to an end)

I pretty much agree entirely with what Dead said.

I totally agree.

That said I can name about..two people who adhere to that list at all times. I am -totally- not one of them. But I want to say, I think he core of "good player" is trying to make sure others have as much fun as you do. We all falter, we all take IC as OOC sometimes. We all screw up lore here and there. But I think about 90% or better of this server is "good players" because they actively try to create a world for -everyone-.

Tbh we haven't had any major roleplay complaints in a long time so I'd say you're all doing a fine job of roleplaying with a modicum of quality. *Twizzles moustache.*

In summery of the thread for those that didn't read it; Good RP is subjective but if you don't horde the spot light you're already doing it right.

Also on the topic of DC if you want to make sure there's a DM watching check the forum ticker to see if there's one on and then use the DC Wand item BEFORE you get into what could turn into epic RP. DMs have to see it to award for it. It's rare, if ever, they go back into the logs and reward after the fact. Also don't try and pass off scripted RP as the good stuff. They know the difference
