I was playing around with brew potion and craft wand on an offline Amia haked character builder module and had a question on how the actual items turn out. I noticed with different spells, it brewed a potion or crafted a wand with totally different caster levels seemingly randomly. (I was using a level 23 Wiz character). For example, even though my CasterLevel was 23 -- some potions brewed at only CL 7 strength and others at CL 10... Anyway before I confuse myself further: Is there some sort of calculation done to figure out the strength of your potions/wands? Or is it a hidden roll that occurs when attempting the wand craft or potion brew which determines the outcome?  confused

It's just how NWN limits CL on potions and wands. There's no rolls or anything. It is what it is.

I still think it's hilarious that you can summon a creature by drinking a brewed potion.

off topic, but you can summon a slaad that will kill you if you catch a certain disease on amia A...

Agreed, but I just RP that some potions are less drinkable spells and more "A magic knife in a bottle" (Shelgarn's persistent blade) or burning oil (Flame Weapon). Actually, Mr. Hackums was showing off his badger in a bottle as well, while I have a few more sinister potions ... Ts

It's the perfect pet! Save for the whole mauling thing.
I've always sort of played some of those odd potions as a person being briefly imbued with the ability to cast the magic. Sort of a surge of magic as they drink it, and poof- Darkness cloud, or fey companion.

I thought it was more of you drink the potion and the spell is cast on you. So you drink a Darkness potion, it's cast on you like when a mage does it. You drink a Flame Weapon potion and it's cast on you, which goes on your blade.

I think we're mostly thinking along the same lines, just a difference in who's performing the action, the bottle or the person, essentially. It was mostly just flavor, how I RPed it anyway.

I just thought that at the very least, if a potion summons a badger, it would at least have a health warning like: 'Do not ingest. May cause chestbursting if swallowed.'

I guess so, my friend caught the disease, didn't heal kit it....and a slaad was summoned and proceeded to own his lvl 3 arse lol
