Quite often I find myself RPing things into my PC's spells or abilities that make them more interesting than the vanilla description the game gives. These things don't imply any difference to the spell's mechanics, but may set them apart from other spells cast by different PC's. This thread is pretty much to see if other players do such things, or just want to tell their own.

Ardok:

Divine Power: His fists glow golden for the duration.

Divine Favor: A teal, gas-like energy radiates from his hands.

Perfect Self: Manifests itself as a palpable aura of smoldering rage. Audible, yet distant thunder can be heard in his presence when something draws his ire. His eyes glow a dark indigo, not purple-pink.

Beldor:

Fireballs: All of his fireballs or fireball-like spells appear to be vague outlines of skulls, laughing as they fly towards their destination.

Vampiric Touch: Physically draws blood from the target when casting that is absorbed into his skin. He has on some occasions been seen administering the "touch" with a brutal bite instead.

Shadows: His Shadow/Shadow Fiend/Shadow Lord summons appear as his own shadow. They often hide themselves within whatever real shadow is projected onto the ground.

Shadow Variants re: Fire: The fire he creates from these techniques appears pitch black and give off no light whatsoever.

Acid: When dealing with any spell with the descriptor of Acid, the liquid appears clear or a very light blue, not green as the game would suggest.

Divine Wrath/Smite Infidel: DC rp'ed as Knight of the Weave, thus these abilities cloak his body in Spellfire, not some sort of divine energy.

Zammikyra:

Divine Might: Manifests itself as white flames on her weapons. When no weapons are drawn, the flames appear to form lion-like claws that overlap her forearms and hands.

Divine Shield: When a weapon attempts to strike her, a flash of white fire concusses the blow away. Each flash makes the sound of a lion's snarl, like some protective force is quite displeased or even angry at whatever might be attacking her.

Divine Grace: RPed as premonitory, or a "danger sense" that only goes off when needed.

Smite Evil: A spectral gauntlet guides her hand and arms as she swings or stabs. The impact is accompanied by a lion's roar and the target is engulfed in white holy fire, similar to that created by her Divine Might ability.

Deafening Clang: The "clang" heard from this spell actually sounds like a large church bell.

Lay on Hands/Remove Disease/Cure Spells: Administered with a kiss on the forehead when not in a combat situation. Somehow symbolic and sentimental for her, but she has never stated the reason.

I remember Yossarin singing that as he ran frantic circles around the Snowbeast.

Yeah, I tend to use a "lesser Spell Thematics" with my 'casters as well.

Common Spell thematic:

With Tuomas, any and all spells he uses that're combat cause the tattoos he has to glow and in the case of a persistant spell, keep glowing.

Well, at one point I RP'd that Xavi encouraged her male allies (bardsong) by lifting her shirt... *ahem* :oops:

"Here's what you're fighting for, boys!" 8)

It's a less inspiring sight now that she's older...

Aylomen has a few that I've used consistently for spells.

- With most of his offensive spells, a translucent, glowing symbol of a Sun with runic symbols appears above his head. I use it most often for Sunbeam and searing lights, as the glyph from which the beam is actually cast.

- Aylomen's healing spells I describe using glowing yellow-green spider webs beneath the flesh. I've always imagined this as the veins, arteries, and capillaries being filled with magic visible through the skin.

In addition, because of Xavi's personal history as an escort/prostitute, I played her learning of shadowdancer techniques as actual dance - that is, she dances her way into the shadow realm by moving her body in certain ways. Shadow evade, in particular, is RP'd as shifting her body from side to side while moving her hands in sinuous patterns, effectively pulling shadows from the air to gathering around herself. She removes the effect in a similar manner.

With healing spells I typically invoke Sharess, asking that the individual be returned to full health so the s/he can continue to fully enjoy life. When I RP any sensations, it's usually a warm, tingling, pleasurable one spreading throughout the recipient's body or affected area.

Give her 20 more years IC, and it'll be how she uses lich lyrics.

Sunny had blue markings along his body that glowed when he cast, due to his origin rp.

My dwarven bard was normally bald, and when he cast, I had him grow a full head of hair during the duration of his bard song. Wewt.

Andrew's bless weapon looks like golden fire, and the extra divine damage causes undead to immolate with golden flames when the die. Andrew's pink ioun stone looks like a pink halo. His Lay on Hands is very hot and painful, as if burning a wound shut

That's about all spellwise. I emote his (and all of my character's) basic fighting styles though. Bobrin's is much like a drunken Yoda and Andrew literally hacks his opponents apart in extremely gory display and mixes it with wrestling moves. Lyle was pretty dull, but his wereform involved lots of circling, divebombing and mauling.

LOL!

...and I'm pleasantly surprised someone managed to get 'Boobies!' into a thread like this.....though if anyone could do it it was going to be Xavi.....

I SUPPOSE I could make Dark Immolation's dreams come true and finally describe Torin's fighting style because I know he's wanted me to do it ever since he made thta topic in PC stories about martial arts fighting styles.

(and if not I'm gonna stroke my own ego anyways, deal w/ it >.>)

~~~~
Torin fights slightly differently than the average sword and board, almost entirely because of the 'mechanics' of the way his weapon works. Because he's not holding a real object, but rather fighting with a blade of energy protruding him his hand, there's different leverages and distances involved. you can't use wrist work to follow through or anything like that. You're got your arm and your elbow. As a result, what you end up with is slightly less delicate strikes that get full arm force in them, rather than wristwork for fine slashes and cuts. A weightless blade means the force comes from him (body + mind) rather than the weight of steel or adamantine or what have you.
This also means he has slightly less range in a fight than the average warrior with an equivalent length blade. He knows it. This means he fights dirty. Bodily slams with the shield, cuts to exposed body parts, etc. He tries to work in far closer to an opponent than a person weilding a real object of standard combat size (i.e. bigger than... a dagger or a small end shortsword) would comfortably be able to fight with.
He's a fan of overwhelming vertical force, favoring chops to the shoulder blades to shove an opponent to their knees or lower. Horizontal arcing cuts are more used to create openings or a vertical attack or a stab.
Fun Fact: He can make a shield on the left or the right arm. Or both. He can make blades on the light or the right arm. Or both. He is not ambidextrous, despite this. He is right handed.
More Fun Facts: His unarmed fighting style trends off his bladed fighting style, since it's essentially "unarmed". He punches and strikes almost entirely with the right half of his body, preferring the left to defend unless both hands are needed.
~~~

His mindblade and shield are an opaque, silvery psychic energy. The blade flares out from his hand a distance of anywhere from three feet to the length of a greatsword, depending on fighting stance and how pissed off he is and/or how much energy he happens to be channeling at the moment.

When he uses Psychic Strike, silver wisps of energy course off of and around the blade like motes of silver glitterdust. Extra psychic energy also courses around him and gives him a very visible silver aura around his person.

When he uses Speed of Thought more than passively ("You walk too fast, Tor." "You walk too slow!"), a gust of wind can be felt in his presence, as well as slightly visible wisping curls of psychic 'smoke' leaving a short trail behind him as he sprints around.

When he uses Psychic Concussion, a ripple of force erupts from around him before shattering like silver glass, exploding outwards both physically and mentally, striking all targets around him.

Shala may be ambidextrous, but is actually left-dominant. Graphics aside, she wears her shield on her right arm and wields with her left when she's one-handing.

I usually make Faram RP healing, ressing or any positive energy cleric magic as unpleasant, since most people assume it would feel nice to have a bucket of Heal thrown over you.

I just tell them it would feel as if they were standing under a waterfall which is about to freeze over.

When Ely casts, her skin becomes colder. But since noone's actually touching her, they wouldn't know that. Her fae-touched comes from a snow-fae. Yarrrrr

I admit I never gave this much thought except in situations where time allowed me the ability to type these things out. I'll use my wizard, Cilessa, as an example. She is rigid, formal, and efficient in her spellcasting. As an illusionist, her success depends entirely on her subtlety. As such, there is a distinct lack of any type of "flashiness" to her spellcasting. Her spells barely manifest themselves until they actually take effect.

The only idiosyncrasy I give my characters is that they are all generally left-handed like I am.
