if you have more then 12 natural of the base forms stat, does it actually get those stats? ie, if you have 30 str, but the base form has 10 str, do you end up at the item cap of 22 str or 30 str?

The answer is you get 22, due to the item cap limit applying despite your characters actual stats. I believe this is a very critical bug and needs to be addressed.

Not a bug - this is an engine limitation due to how polymorphs are coded in NWN1.

Shouldn't shifter forms use the higher value between your base stats (Of STR, DEX and CON) and the forms?

In example. If you have 30 base STR and a Wyvern has 12, you should keep your 30 base STR.

Quote:
Ability Overwriting
If a Shifter shifts into a form with a physical ability higher than their own (for instance, a Shifter with 12 Strength shifts into Drow with 20 Strength), then the higher value will overwrite. This works in reverse, too: if a Shifter with 24 Strength shifts into Drow with 20 Strength, then their Strength would remain at 24 as it is the superior amount.

Or is this an exception due to the engine limitation that can't be fixed by the script?

It might make more sense for new forms to add or subtract from the characters base stat.

For instance, if a form has +5 strength, and the character has -1 strength, the shifted form should end up with +4.
If the character has +3 strength though, the total could be +8 strength.
Basically this would be the shifter's own inherent strengths (or weaknesses!) influencing how strong or nimble or healthy the form is they shift into.

Afterall, if you work hard at getting +4 strength, only to shift into a creature with +4 strength and it stay the same, then what's the benefit of having ever increased your strength stats? Might as well just pump everything into wisdom and intelligence.

Added together though, it'd be more meaningful and make shifters consider their base stats more.

This could take the place of item merging as well. Instead of calculating the various clothing, rings, and other accessories, it could just pull from the current modified stats of the character into the new form, including skills, damage reductions, regenerations, etc etc.

consensus seems to be this is not a bug/too much work to implement and would effect like 1 character.

thread can be locked I think.

Not a bug but the way the system functions.
