I have a Tiefling with natural darkvision and a Halfling who acquired it via PrC feats. If I cast darkness is it supposed to affect me as well? The Tiefling can cast darkness naturally once per day and it can see through the darkness he creates. However, being an assassin, using the spell and the acquired ability from the instructor affects him as well so he doesn't hit well under darkness. The same goes for my Halfling who is an SD. I make a lot of misses but I do get a sneak attack in if I hit.

Is this working as intended?

Ultravision is required to see through magical darkness. Darkvision only helps with natural darkness.

Is the darkness in the mob areas in Shadowscape considered magical?

The aura that follows them is just cosmetic.

Ultravision should help, cause I know True Seeing does. It's low-light vision you need to see better there :)

Darkvision does nullify the +5 penalty to spot DCs during nighttime.
