Alright, so I recently bough this bauty: http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentatio ... 2150&lid=1

And now with it installed, drivers updated, all that jazz, yadda, yadda; The game crashes every time I try to start it. I've tried.. SO MANY different things.
The usual Windows 7 workarounds that've worked for me before don't now. So I'm guessing it's got something to do with the new card.

I've changed the core affinity in the nwnplayer.ini to just about every number it takes that might work, disabled the game's movies, all graphics via the config files, even bought a new version from GoG yesterday which, without any outside haks, overrides, anything at all, still crashes on launch.

I'm out of ideas and annoyed to no end as I'd REALLY love to not have to quit my favorite game and RP servers.
I'll probably end up buying an old laptop to run it if need be eventually when I can afford it, but if I don't have toooooo, that'd be great!

So! If anyone has any good ideas I haven't tried, HELP.

Has to be your video card. Is it an onboard card or did you buy it separate?

But on a more serious note, I'll be finally back home in an hour. I'll jump on my computer then and see what I can find out. I'm in my phone now. Not so helpful.

I'd play with the drivers a bit. Make sure you have the most current one from the developer's website (or try an older one from their site, just running the updater is notoriously bad). Make sure your DirectX is up to date, then make sure DirectX9c is installed separately (the newer versions leave something out NWN needs). Make sure it's in the right compatibility mode.

Just to complicate things more, my copy of the game crashes when I open it at least 50% of the time, but once I get past that initial hiccup works just fine. I have no idea what that's about, but because of it I would suggest trying to start several times after every change is made. One of the nonsensical things I've heard of making a difference is to try starting the game in windowed mode (or vice versa).

If it's not even giving you am error message at least you know it's just your computer not playing nice, rather then something in the program. I've always kinda wondered if NWN might run better on modern machines through an emulator program.

And this is why i hate AMD, their drivers are uber butt.
But on that note, try to launch direct to server. the into videos can sometimes wreck hell. if you need too then chnage the settings in the ini to disable the nice graphics also.

make 2 shortcuts, A and B. in the properties, under target.. make it like..

DRIVE-LETTER:\NeverwinterNights\nwmain.exe +connect 185.29.203.11:5121
DRIVE-LETTER:\NeverwinterNights\nwmain.exe +connect 185.29.203.11:5122

This will take you direct to char log on. Its epic as hell. Side effects may include herpes.

Used to be like that for me too, yeah. Only now it's a solid 0% of like 70+ launches sooo.. I'll try manually downloading the drivers and seeing if I have DX9 separate or not, Pretty sure I do, but never hurts to be sure.. or have two.

Tried it, didn't work. Sounds like an awesome deal though. On the upside I'll still be STD free, right?


Edit: Nope, Shit still borked. Reinstalled drivers without the auto-detect, DX9c too, nuttin. :(
Think I'll be snagging a laptop that runs on Nvidia/Intel junk just to make sure NwN works with it if you think it's just AMD not liking older games.

Tried it in Admin mode and with XP Service Pack 2 & 3, and Win 2000 just for the hell of it, none worked.

Welp. Nothing is fixing it on my desktop. But guess what works flawlessly on my brand new freakish fast delivery laptop of mine? And I've only screamed at Windows 8 three times in the hour and a half I've been using it.

Yeaaah.. Why do you think I'm screaming at it so much. -_- Even a day later I'm bitching about how much useless crap is on it. Spent the first hour and a half uninstalling bloatware, and more this morning uninstalling MORE bloatware that wasn't shown on the control panel uninstall window(Sneaky shits), Set it to launch on the desktop. And it's tolerable till I get to see Windows 10 in less tan a month, if they screwed that up like 8, I'm installing 7 on it.

You literally change Nwmain.exe's name to ANTYHING ELSE.. AND THE GAME RUNS PERFECTLY. I SPENT. $900 ON A LAPTOP TO RUN IT.
AND IT WAS THAT SIMPLE OF A FIX. And it WORKS. FUCK.

Excuse me while I go cry.
