What are the standard things that are available to equipa dex based unarmed monk. Not talking about epic drops, just things that are readily available. What should I be on the lookout for?

I mean dex, con, str, and wis can be improved. Don't have the weapon slots to help out and your gloves are somewhat locked in so at a loss as to what I can do to help him out. Build will probably be 18monk, 6 fighter, 6shadowdancer.

Any suggestions?

For monks on the Wisdom part all you really need to do is get Owl Wisdom Scrolls, that's it! It's a easy +8, I believe?

For the rest of the gear, any basic Dexterity / Constitution gear would work, to be frank.

Actually you don't want to focus gearing in Wisdom, that will ruin your AB. You want to gear primarily into Dex and CON with a minor focus in wisdom with the knowledge that you can buff your wisdom if you want the extra cushion using owl's potions and scrolls. Most of my monk gear sets only get wisdom from that one awesome belt that one of the end game shops sells that has +2 dex, +2 wis, freedom, and improved critical (unarmed)

Thanks, since belt and bracers and boots are somewhat 'fixed" and amulet tends to be AC amulet and +4 fort cloak is hard to not wear, it comes down to rings and Helm.

+7, and the spell is called Owl's Insight.

I was literally drunk when I made my post, and didn't read yours correctly Libris. My post is like a duplicate of yours, lol. You're right there.

Can Owl's Insight be cast without druid levels or UMD, though?

Have not seen these scrolls in shops so would think I'd need to find a druid that scribes and I doubt that I could cast them off the scroll anyway, but thanks.

They can be found in certain stores, and so long as you have the UMD to use them, you can cast it.

My suggestion is to move heaven and earth to get Monk20. The mind immunity makes a lot of gearsetting headaches go away.

I have a question about the Owl's Insight scrolls. Found that it's a level 5 druid scroll, but has an innate level of 2, and the duration is 1 hr/level. So how long would this last cast from a scroll?
5 hours? 2 hours? Or does it depend on the PC using the scroll (for a monk without caster levels).

The in-game description incorrectly reports the innate level of this spell as 2. It's actually 5. But that's spell level not caster level. You need to know caster level for duration. The minimum level for casting a 5th level spell is 9th so it should be at least 9 hours. I don't think I've ever seen an instance where the CL is lower than the minimum required to cast the spell. I don't think it has anything to do with who is reading the scroll, it's the scroll that has a caster level.

That makes total sense. So one scroll will last longer than a rest period. Good to know, thanks.

Never had this happen before cause usually their are so many feats that I need on a build. With monk not so much and am nearing 18th level and not sure what I should pick. Have two feats so one has to be a fighter feat. Most of feats in epic will be great dex in order to get epic dodge, Free feat or two will be at 30th level depending on wheather I take two more fighter levels to get epic weapon specialization or monk levels to get 20 levels of monk.

Choices as I see it.

Alertness - Spot\Listen My listen is maxed at the moment and Spot will be shortly
Called shot - BAB will be ok
Disarmed - Unarmed so at a disadvantage from the start
Fort\Will\Reflex +3 Saves are pretty good with Fort being the lowest but not by much
Skill Focus - Tumble, Disc, Move Silent, hide are the options
Spring Attack - No attack of Op, but tumble is maxed, someone mentioned this would be a waste
Stealthy +2 to Move Silent\Hide, someone said hells has incredibly high spot and listen
Improved Initiative - Not sure what this would help
Energy Resist -5, would help some with regards to equipment fire or cold would probably be the choice here
Improved Expertise - leaning for this as the fighter feat

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Alertness - Spot\Listen: Great if you max out these skills and want to be....alert.
Called shot - Not sure, I never grabbed this one before.
Disarmed - A waste if you don't also get improved disarm.
Fort\Will\Reflex: Great to bump up as a monk, you may want to be really difficult to kill.
Skill Focus - Not that great.
Spring Attack - A waste if your tumble is high.
Stealthy +2 to Move Silent\Hide: A good feat if you like to sneak.
Improved Initiative - Won't do much of anything.
Energy Resist -5: Nah, don't waster a feat on this.
Improved Expertise - nice if you want total defense

Sounds like Alertness, Stealthy, or a bump in saves would be your best bet. IE is great, but if you have epic dodge, you won't really need it.

For an unarmed monk, Disarm and Improved Disarm are the two feats I would choose out of your list.

Alertness - Not really worth it
Called shot - Yepsa! Go for it, You'll be difficult to run from
Disarmed - Yes pick up improved Disarm too
Fort\Will\Reflex - Meh. Not really worth it. Pick them up if you have nothing else to take
Skill Focus - Also meh. Waste of a feat
Spring Attack - Redundant, having 15 or more tumble gives the same effect. Waste of a feat.
Stealthy - Not worth it
Improved Initiative - Waste of a feat
Energy Resist -5, - Eh.. Maybe?
Improved Expertise - It'll tank your AB, and as a Monk, your AC will be really high anyways. I'd advise against it.

A good build for a "Stealthy" Monk is:

21 Monk, 6 SD, 3 Rogue.

That allows you to have all those wonderful monk feats & mind immunity, but also giving you the defensive edge of Hips. Its also neat if you want to disable traps and picks locks thanks to rogue. This build also nets you epic dodge.

A very good build.

Agreeing with Raua on the feats, Things like Disarm for a fist monk is pointless because of weapon scaling, Expertise & improved expertise however is nice if you want to raise your AC higher. The feats in fortitude, Reflex and Will is a good bet.

Did you select weapon focus & plan epic weapon focus?

Both weapons count as the same size for unarmed disarms.

^That.

Essentially, an unarmed monk trying to disarm a great sword counts as wielding a greatsword too.

Probably should have gone with the disarm feats as I have not used expertise as much as I thought I would have. Too late to change, think that would have used the call shots feats as well. AB is just not high enough, maybe will come in handy if boss hunting with a group, but don't see that happening anyway.

21m/6sd/3r

Debated between that and fighter levels, like the extra damage and ab, but UMD is big to self buff as the server population shrinks.

With party buffs, GMW, dark fire, improved invis, he would rock. Still, very fun to play as is.
