Just go HEAVY on the sneak part - Like A crossbow guy with 22 ROgue levels and 6 SD levels

I saw a Dwarf with 6SD Levels, for those times when he got targeted by enemies, And the rest Rogue levels - Using a crossbow. He was insaaane!

Great Pidgeon. Don't judge by a lack of information on your part. I'm asking for build ideas not RP ideas. It's actually a very RP centric character, I cold do everything I wanted with this character at level 3 and never have to level onwards except be able to intimidate and have very rewarding RP with him. The class is not important to the character, Jobs are important to the character (it would be like asking what ECL 30 build a character class should I take for an archaeologist, an archaeologist doesn't NEED character levels to function). The PvP angle exists because the chances of him getting in a fight are high and he needs to be as effective as possible to maintain his reputation, even if he dies, and I like to have a build in mind when he inevitably gets levels.

This is my main's build. I started when it was still Harper Scout but the changes rendered to make it Master Scout made it so much better. A flexible build useful in so many situations.

I've not played an MS myself, but I can atleast say that their items they can craft are quite nice, the ones I got the chance to try, atleast and would mesh so well with a Rogue who only has access to certain things that the MS crafting can bridge some. Also who doesn't love the speed bonus in the specified area type(s) and perma-freedom? We all know a speed bonus on sneaky types is a blessing, especially without Monk in the build or having to use mass-amounts of haste potions. It's (seemingly) quite a versatile class, both mechanically and in an RP sense.

Does taking the Spring Attack, which negates attacks of opportunity negate having to put points in tumble? Or are there other advantages from putting points in tumble?

Bonus AC for every 5 ranks (actual ranks, not total) is the main reason for tumble, really.

Every 5 ranks in Tumble = 1 AC. You only gain extra AC from base ranks, so 30 by level 27 at the earliest grants you the max on Amia of 6 extra AC. Spring attack is a waste unless you require it for WM.

And damn you Rigela. :P

Is it possible to make dev-critting monk weapon master? I did some research and here is what I got

Abilities:

STR: 18
DEX: 13
CON: 10
INT:: 13
WIS: 11
CHA: 8

Level Progression

1 Fighter: Feats: Mobility, Weapon Focus
2 Monk: Feats: Cleave + other monk stuff.
3 Fighter: Feats: Dodge, Expertise
4 Monk: Ability: STR +1
5 Monk:
6 Fighter: Feats: Spring Attak, Whirlwind
7 Monk:
8 Monk: Ability: STR +1
9 Fighter: Weapon Specialication, Great cleave
10 Monk:
11 WM: Feats: Ki Damage, Weapon Of Choice
12 WM: Feats: Improved Critical, Ability: STR +1
13 WM:
14 WM:
15 WM: Power Attack, Increased Multiplier, Superior Weapon Focus
16 WM: Ability: STR +1
17 WM: Ki Critical
18 WM: Something? (I have no idea.)
19 WM:
20 WM: Ability: STR +1

After Epics: Dev-crit need 25 str...

21 Monk: Epic Weapon Focus
22 Monk:
23 Monk:
24 WM: Feats: Overwhelming Critical, Ability: STR +1
25 Monk:
26 Monk:
27 Monk: Feats: Armor Skin or
28 Monk: Ability: STR +1
29 Monk:
30 WM: Devastating Critical

So I would need to do it: 14 Monk, 4 Fighter, 12 WM

Would this actually even work, or is it possible? I got so confused when trying to figure it out myself, got my table full of post it's now... <.<

Also I understood it is not possible to get DEv-Crit on pure monk as the feat is not listen on them, correct?

Perfectly possible for a pure monk to have Devastating Critical.

There's not really any reason for 14 monk levels there, nor does 12 WM give you anything. 6 Monk/8 Fighter/16 WM is your best option. Start with 10 WIS and max it out to 22 for the full +6 AC.

Oh it is possible!! Well then. Would pure monk be better than that build or is it maximised already?

I am wondering what is the optimized str based monk build and the layout? If I don't have something to refer to I will screw it up, buildwise. Tend to take a level and look: "Oh that looks nice!! " And soon I notice I can't get dev-crit -.-'

I have an idea for epic custom feat which I would like to have, a monk strike. :)

Are you intending to use weapons, or not? You can't be a Weapon Master of fists.

If you're intending to use fists, the build is quite a bit different.

You can, it's called monk.

As for devcrit and fists, depends if you care about monk's spell resistance to be of any use or not.
20 monk/ 10 fighter or 20 monk/10 DC could work well. Just take four levels of fighter class preepic for 4 attacks/round.
If you want UMD, 21/8/1 rogue could work too.

Monk20/Fighter8/Assassin2 is by far superior with its sweet, sweet Uncanny Dodge so that you're not denied a whole lot of AC in combat all the time. Otherwise Monk21/Fighter6/Rogue3 is the obvious choice.

Yeah. Uncanny Dodge is practically a requirement on a Monk with how often you're left flatfooted with the short attack radius of fists.

Ah, so I can't have Dev-crit: Fist.

I don't plan to be assasin, so thats a no.

I would love to be able to dev-crit, therefore kamas are the only option. (Not my favourite option but oh well.) But do you think that is better than being a monk without dev-crit? So uncanny dodge is needed.... Seems it is another build then?

So Monk 21/Fighter6/Rogue3 can dev-crit?

If you overlook Dev Crit, you'll have a huge range of other useful feats open up to you. It's not really that special, so something to think about!

But the dev-critical is something that would fit the character and the custom feat I plan, or support having the custom feat. :)

So there is not possible to have weapon master of fist. Now I get it. Shame!

So, I can ditch the WM out.

What are my options now, I would like to be dev-critting str based monk, hopefully epic monk.

So it is possible to be dev-critter and have that spell resistance as well?

Say.. 25 monk/4 fighter/1 rog?

It's not that a drastic difference in terms of SR. 21/6/3 is better and can afford Dev.

I call upon thee, great minds of this realm, to aid me in a bold quest to create a Quarterstaff build for a drow, that doesn't suck!

I can't wrap my mind around this concept at all, and i craved it for a long time, so any ideas you might have, no matter how crazy, i'd be grateful. There's just something epic about a QS with Assassin's ACP.

What i'm not looking for, is something straightforwardly STR based like a FTR/BG/Rogue in a full plate; i know how to make that. I would rather lean towards bo jutsu type of thing, which is more of a DEX based build and makes the stick go whoosh!

So in essence, what i'm looking for is something that maintains a reasonable amount of AC (around 60+) and/or has other kinds of defensive capabilities, and can deal a ton of damage at the same time -or- a reasonable amount of damage, but has some other offensive/disabling thing going on.

WM is not an option for damage, it wouldn't do this weapon any good. I'm leaning more towards Sneak Attacks, Divine Might, EWS and possibly some amount of STR mod (it's a 2-hander after all).

I'm gonna leave this hanging, however vague the guidelines might be... but i don't want to suggest or deny too much to possibly hear more ideas.

17f 18r 11w from class level progression, not counting any bonuses or penalties.

BG/Rogue/Fighter. Oh wait.

Okay, why not BG/Rogue/Fighter? Is Monk ruled out, because that kid in the video is level 30 Monk, though he's obviously levelled without the DMs' consent. If you want to be divine you naturally have three classes to choose from: Paladin, Cleric, and BG. That is quite decisive in terms of roleplay, so don't make your decision based on what makes your build most powerful. Only I can do that. Monk can also be played very religiously, so I might exclude the mishmash CHA/STR/DEX/WIS for sake of simplicity, although it is still quite possible thanks to ingenious gearing and BG spells.

So um, I guess the question is, what do you want exactly?

To be honest, it's pretty BS that quarterstaff isn't a monk weapon. It's supposed to be.

Don't mind the RP or the need to be religious. It's just martial arts.

What i want is ideas on how to negate the disadvantages of this weapon, in a build that represents agility and nimbleness, not just brute force.

For example, i'm currently toying with an idea with Epic Dodge. Final STR 18, DEX 25. Obviously Epic Dodge and DEX bring great defensive capabilities (and fit the theme), but since a QS can't be Finessed, the AB remains somewhat lacking - no more than 42. This could -still- work combined with Taunt, HiPS and Imp Disarm though.

What's missing is the damage - 18 STR would be a +15 damage on the staff, which is a decent start, but i want it to have a huge "pure" kick, so Sneak Attacks/EWS/Rage (Divine Might in this case is out, unless i take 6 CON).

I just don't know how to combine it all into a good balance of AB, AC and damage.

And i agree with Iron, it should be. The problem is there's no easy way make it work i'm guessing, and prevent builds with huge STR and other good sources of damage (like Divine Might) from taking a monk level and doubling their number of attacks. They'd be beasts. I'm thinking, Pal22/wm7/monk1 for example.

You can easily do any basic STR Monk with the QS. Of course the weapon is gimped and there is absolutely no way to negate the disadvantages thereof; you will always deal less damage, crit less often, etc.

Just pick a build to your liking and execute it. I wouldn't even consider the DEX/STR as an option, because you don't benefit from the DEX a whole lot if you can't hit anything. DEX isn't required for your character to be able to pogo like the kid in the video, so 14 seems plenty. Paladin20/Monk6/Fighter4, Monk21/Fighter6/Rogue3, try out things with Monk6 or more.

Criticals are not even a factor i'm considering, the damage should come primarily from 2-handed STR mod, Sneak Attacks and a tertiary bonus like Divine Might.

I'm not really into paladins, neither are drow... so let's talk about monk.

The only thing that monk brings into the mix is the agility factor in terms of flavor, the speed, some amount of AC and various other things that are not crucial. 6 monk will give me free IKD, 10% speed and up to 7 AC. More monk (16+) will give me more speed and AC and the ability to switch to fists, but i'm not interested in it.

Now the main problem with monk is, that i'm not convinced a non DEX based one is any good. You're suggesting STR based with 14 DEX, let's say it also has 14 WIS, and wears robe. The AC on this would be horrid, no matter if it's 6 or 16 monk, because you can't fit +12 STR, DEX and WIS on your items (not to mention CHA for Divine Shield), and even if somehow you could, the AC would still be like 55.

So i don't think monk is the answer here. Before we go any further, i want ask one thing for clarification, because i can't help myself but keep SD in the mix. It's about HiPS mechanics regarding Hide vs Spot.

If i HiPS with 95 Hide vs Spot of 110, i will disappear until detected. Right? Right.
Now, what if my Hide is much lower than that, say - 85 vs 110 Spot. Do i still disappear for the spotter, and only his next roll automatically detects me? Or my HiPS attempt has no effect?

HIPS doesn't hide you as soon as you hide against spot, unlike Vs. listeners. If they have more spot than your hide skill, but you have enough to beat their spot, then dependent on how rolls go, that is the only way you will disappear from their sight, but even then, spot rolls multiple times each round (unlike listen), so you're not likely to even have any advantage from HIPS if it is to even just to disappear for a short time if they have enough spot, even moreso if they have more spot than your hide.

I think (can't prove it, not tested properly) that once you are spotted under HIPS, you can't go out of sight again, even if you changed gear to add more Hide. You would have to re-initiate stealth. In theory.

So in other words, when i hit HiPS, the spotter makes a response roll, and only if i beat it i hide?

As in, 80 hide vs 78 spot - 5% chance my HiPS will hide me (on his roll of 1).
And 80 hide vs 60 spot - 95% chance my HiPS will hide me (except his roll of 20)?

Is that how it works?

In the latter case, the most extreme roll is 60+20 spot (80) and 80+1 hide (81) so no, your HiPS will fully hide you. Your maths might be a little off in the first example but the gist of it is there.

Also no crit fails/crit successes on skill checks, to my knowledge.

No natural 20/natural 1 in skill checks, no. Also, what serbiris wrote is pretty much it, though there's a lot of... weird modifiers that the spot skill uses each round. Just look up the skill on nwnwiki for more details.

Wait, wait. Hold on. Are you saying it's Hide+d20 vs Spot+d20?

*the noob departs to educate himself on NWN wiki*

But simply put, my point is that if i hit HiPS with 30 Hide, vs Spot of 100, so out of the working range - i won't disappear for him at all, right?

If your hide score is far lower than the other person's spot score, you won't disappear at all, no. And most things D&D involve a d20 roll somewhere. :P

Barbarians on Amia have their own set of rages that last 5 rounds + Constitution modifier. Other than that, there is no difference between 23 and 24, except for level 23 Barbarians get Epic Barb. DR and a bonus feat at 24

You need 24 for the rages you are referring to. Some cap at 21, etc.

And assassin is not needed to be an assassin. Besides you would struggle to be a good assassin with shifter I think. You can just be an assassin that kills people.

Druid5/Shifter10/Ass15 could still technically work, but i guess the only shapes he'll get would be the undead ones on top of the non-epic ones. It wouldn't be too great though, nor it would be very fitting i think...

Then again i can't say what would fit, i haven't read the books and i only know what that faceless man is from the show. If you'd give more details like weapons and spells he uses, abilities and their source etc, i could make a more educated suggestion. Also, i would rather go for druid only and the Faces widget, you get two classes to define your character instead of one.

About that drow quarterstaff build i asked about.

Forget everything i said, and give me an example of -any- build with a 2-hander (STR based), that reaches ~60 AC fully buffed (or more), has AB of at least 45, and is not a WM, Cleric or Paladin?

Well, you can get that AB and (almost) 60 AC if you use some kind of spellblade 23/6/1 build. Just be sure to get both armor skin and epic mage armor in epic. You get a few other goodies for your trouble too.

Monk with two-hander all the way. There's a couple combinations for it:
If you want glowy eyes and some more monk perks, go 20 Monk/6 DC/4 Fighter. You could also go 16 Monk/10 DC/4 Fighter.

You run around really fast with cloth, great AC, great saves, decent AB, and solid damage.

Wasn't he asking for a drow build? If so, then that's only 28 levels to work with, but monk with two-handed works well.

Edit: Monk 16/Fighter 4/DC 8 or 16/6/6 work fairly well on a drow.

You could also hit 16 monk, 4 fighter, 10 rogue. Umd for owls wisdom scrolls and ews PLUS epic dodge. Less saves but bigger sneak hits

I think i did 20 monk/6 sd/ 4 fighter when i made my toon. Hipsing sword dancer. He was really cool.

Bare chested with a huge sword (guess the anime char!)
