hi! I only recently joined the community of roleplaying folk and sadly i have no books for D&D. However i come to something i am curious about. I have a wizard however rather like the Bat familiar, roleplay wise.
My question: Is there any strong batesk creatures in D&D that isn't just a swarm? And what is the 'limit' on familiars in this server when it comes to roleplay and DC bought upgrades? I was told it was possible to say upgrade a familiar with DC coins, as well as change its look.

You can change its looks with DCs yes, as a reskin of the existing creature, however we don't do custom summons.
So basically if you wanted your familiar to look like a different critter, you'd pick the familiar with the closest, similar abilities (ex. undead familiar to be reskinned into a construct, since they share similar immunities) and put in a DC request to have it reskinned. But getting a whole new type of familiar made, isn't an option.

While we are at it, just out of curiosity, why are custom summons against the server's policy? If we can get custom items, customs spells, and customs feats, why are custom summons such a taboo?

a) Time taken to balance properly. b) Space used in the module.
Granted B isn't so much of an issue now with dynamic loading, but A is still very much applicable.
