Hey guys! I am wondering if according to FR's lore is possible for a mortal to become aasimar or tiefling through a planar experience (ie: selling the soul/making a pact/being rescued by a celestial from hells, et cetera).

It's plausible to have a 'planar tainted' child I believe, if a pregnant woman starts travelling the planes extensively for one of the genasi or I believe I've seen that in regards to planescape. As for Tiefling/Aasimar, I'm not sure if that works quite the same or in the ways you suggest I'm afraid.

You couldn't be come an Aasimar/Tiefling that way, but your spirit can become a full-fledged demon/devil. I've got to look up the sources, but this has happened in a number of the FR novels.

No. Only ways to become planetouched is by having planetouched or outsider ancestors and being lucky in the gene lottery or being the child of a parent who has extensively lived (and survived, obviously) on the planes during pregnancy.

I don't think this is really a question that can, or should, be definitively answered. The sensible answer to this sort of hypothetical really can only ever be "it's impossible, until it's not." It should only be definitively answered by another question: "Maybe it's possible. What will you do to find out?"

I agree with Liz. It is not a standard phenomenon recorded anywhere in the books, but very few things are impossible in FR. They used to release new, previously undocumented stuff all the time (spells, prestige classes, magic types), so coming up with something sensible and cool should not be restricted by a lack of canon references. But of course, you'll never know what exactly the outcome will be.

I am inclined to think it would work more like a Prestige Class, though. There are a few classes to gradually become less human and more something else, and this would probably be a similar case. Experiments, rituals, pacts; blood transfusions, surgery, magic, prayer. It might be an exceptional one-time occurence that causes it (like the favor of a deity - changing race is certainly within the scope of a Miracle), but that's not really predictable or generalisable. Further, I can imagine many unusual situations that would result in something Planetouched-like but not Planetouched exactly. You might get an unusual trait without the full stat adjustment package.

Lets just say it'd need a request or be part of a DM event :)
