More or less asking Amian's ruling for how Quickened spells work and look IC. Does one simply say the last part or trigger of a spell, like when reading a scroll? Or is it more appropriate to think of them being cast in a "shorthand", or rapid method? The latter theory would explain why a hastened caster can counterspell a quickened spell. It would mean a quickened spell is just the normal procedure done really fast naturally, too quick for most to keep up with, but a hastened caster can by making just as fast motions.

Whatever is appropriate to the character within reason.

I've considered taking epic quickening along with epic still spell which would make my character capable of standing still and setting someone on fire without lifting a finger or opening his/her mouth.

Try that!

If NWN actually respected that and didn't make the PC go through the animations with the appropriate metamagics, I would.

For now, you just have to emote [Still/Silent Spell] whatever.

A Quickened Still Spell still has verbal components. Just very fast ones.

It's a tongue twister with side effects...

Which is fun, especially if you create a character that doesn't speak common, let's say, only Abyssal.
Then even if you talk regularly people would think you're cursing at them.

Verbal and physical shorthand is the way I've always described it. I have yet to find any actual canon lore on the physical appearance of metamagic, though.

Not looking at auto-metamagic spells; metamagic spells require X spellslots HIGHER than normal, meaning altering them makes them more complicated. Because of this I've always assumed that a hastened spell is actually a more complex but simplified variant of the normal spell.

It could also be seen as a way of just triggering the last few bits of the spell in order to complete it. Similar to a scroll already having all the incantations, materials and components done at it's creation, only needing the remaining triggers in order to complete and cast it.

Found something somewhat related here.
