I'm curious as to why the good captain will take passengers to Thordstein on Forrstakkr, but he's not in Thordstein to pick passengers up. As far as I know, it's the only port that's a one-way trip, but I could be wrong about that.

What's the reasoning/lore behind this? Does he just send passengers ashore in a row boat or something? Is he barred from picking passengers up?

find out IC maybe

maybe because him waiting around to pick them up to leave again would not be worth his time. when more people want to go to Cordor,Wiltun, pally town...ect he could spend more time shipping people and cargo back and forth there.

think of it like a taxi, taxis wait around places like airports where they know they will get people ASAP, they wont hang around in the middle of nowhere hoping someone near by needs a ride.... but they are happy to drop you off where ever.

A taxi huh, OK, that makes sense; Thordstein -is- a small village.

Thanks for the reply.

Cory's suggestion seems to make the most sense. It's not really something we thought of when the areas got made.

Or maybe his ship is too big to negiotiate the port at Thordstein and so he has to drop off cargo by longboat before leaving again.

He's a mystical creature anyway, present at so many places at once, and then the one time he deligates something we ge forum questions?

Lets go with Cory yes.

P.S. Do those ships have warp drive? Take more time to portal from wiltun to endir then to take the boat.

Travel time via ships, boats, carts and what have you are not instantaneous. There's an assumed travel period between start point and destination.

As for him being in so many places at once, well... he really isn't? Use your imagination a little. He picks you up at one port, would it not be common sense for him to be the one there when you leave the ship at your destination as well? Though I suppose we could go around to every port and replace all the duplicate Gustons with other ship captains if it's that big of a deal, but that's a topic more suitable to Improving Amia than the Lore subforum.

Did I suggest replacing him? Odd.. I did... Hmmm
I don't have a problem with it but face it he is everywhere at once. But lets just use the standard high fantasy defence and call it magic.

I am however as always still for delay times on ship and carts, not just the load screen. Even my crappy laptop with a 1.8GHz processer takes care of any leading for NWN in less then a second or two.

I've seen some servers have an intermediate phase where you're on a ship at sea, then there's usually a % roll for an encounter and if that's not happening, it then moves to the destination screen. I think Amia had something like that once with pirates attacking? Or is that just me remembering things wrong?

It did. However, if someone died on the encounter then the ship lane was broken until the server reset.

It would be neat to have some delay time on ships depending on distance to travel, with a random pirate encounter that doesn't make the system go buggy. Add to that please a shipwreck through storm event, which wouldn't apply for Umberleeans. That would add some nice depth to it.
