Paladin's Survival Guide: Hunting Epic Foes

A strategic guide to surviving and fighting creatures of Epic Combative Prowess.
Below you will find some common strategies for fighting and defending some of the nastiest combatants you will run across in your travels.

Let this guide be of service to those who intend to fight evil no matter how treacherous so that you may be prepared against any and all matters you may come across on the field of battle.

The Phane
- This appears to be some sort of time anomaly abomination; much akin to far realms sort of being. They possess the ability to manipulate the construct of mortal perception known as time. There are in essentially immortal creatures.
⦁ Weak to Acid
⦁ Black blade of disaster with Haste and Acid Helps.
⦁ Acid Sheath helps protect yourself and do damage.
⦁ Will Heal quite quickly over time...
⦁ Death slad spit seems to help destroy it with Acid.
⦁ Will spawn or create copies of you and your party members to fight in a manner seemingly made from negative energy.
⦁ Cannot take huge substantial burst damage will disappear and reappear with the damage healed seemingly having sensed such a deviation it temporarily removes it's self from time.

Bone yard- Boneyards, known as bone weirds or bonetakers by some, are immense aggregate undead that form from mass graves and charnel sites. Despite their monstrous appearance, they possess genius-level intellects, a result of all the damned souls rattling around in their forms. Fragments of the personalities and knowledge of the creatures incorporated into a boneyard surface in the roiling mass of its psyche.

⦁ Take a group
⦁ Death Ward
⦁ Mind blank
⦁ Kill Splinters before they can converge and recreate.
⦁ Undeath to Death Helps
⦁ Undeaths Eternal Foe Helps

T-rex- Despite its enormous size and 6-ton weight, a tyrannosaurus is a swift runner. Its head is nearly 6 feet long, and its teeth are from 3 to 6 inches in length. It is slightly more than 30 feet long from nose to tail. The T-rex is a sturdy beast for certain.
(T-Rex High DMG high CON)

⦁ A good tank or a dexterous tank can be of help
⦁ Lots of damage should be applied constantly.
⦁ Keep plenty of healing supplies on hand.

The Bound (The Elemental)

⦁ Freedom
⦁ Kill the extras- There will be 4
⦁ Will Regen very fast
⦁ Get a decent tank
⦁ Will need a lock smith to get here
⦁ Stay healed
⦁ Immense physical resistance
⦁ Lack of elemental resistance
⦁ Ranged bolt attacks that induce knock down
⦁ Chaos aura that affects those attacking or casting spells at it
⦁ Spell resistance, enough to make CL 17 useless

Beholders- Beholders are the stuff of nightmares. These creatures, also called the "spheres of many eyes" or "eye tyrants", are deadly adversaries. They are for all purposes aberrations. They have a tendency to dispel magic and shoot beams of deadly light or lasers from their eyes.

⦁ Spell Breach for Acid Sheath (Does about 50 DMG)
⦁ Shifters with Golem shape work well here
⦁ 3 Greater Ruins
⦁ Dispels
⦁ Darkness is good here
⦁ Will use his entire spell list before attacking
⦁ Best to carry/use Summon creature scrolls to let him use his greater ruins and dispels while staying invisible

Snowbeast- The Snow Beast is a large bipedal snow white creature. It's quite vicious and will defend its territory until death. It is not to be trifled with for the faint of heart.

⦁ Go with elemental shield up and utilize expertise,
⦁ Stay healed
⦁ Fear roar, Cone - Mind Blank
Maximus- This is a large construct comprised of many dead beings conglomerated in to one. Spells and ward against constructs work best against this creature.
Back left Cairn leading up to Maximus involves petrification, fear and implosion- Plan accordingly.

⦁ Just avoid being greater ruined (Stick CLOSE)
⦁ Dispels on hit

Manner of Mourn Vampire -
This mite sized Lord of the damned had quite a few size issues. None the less you can cut him down to size with some basic preparation.
⦁ Silence scroll, and some heal pots;
⦁ Traps are sonic, silence makes you sonic immune
⦁ Undeath to Death Helps
⦁ Undeaths Eternal Foe Helps
⦁ Destroy Coffin in back of the room before taking him on.
⦁ Some Folks like to litter the floor with Area of effect spells.
⦁ Bless Weapon and Holy Avenger help.

Vegepygmy Chief-
Vegepygmies, also known as moldies, mold folk or mold men are fungus creatures that live dark forests or underground, hunting for sustenance and spreading their spores from which they reproduced. They are generally spawned from dead humanoids or giants that were killed by a type of mold commonly known as russet mold.
⦁ Bubbly Potion/ Negative Energy Protection
⦁ Freedom
⦁ Poison Immunities/ Antidotes
⦁ Stay healed

Dueegar- Also, known as gray dwarves, are a subterranean race. They carved out an existence in the Underdark, often near volcanoes. Their kinship to other dwarven subraces could be compared to that of the drow to surface elves. The one inhabiting Amia tend to work in Mind Control, Psionics, and Slave Trade.

⦁ Spell breach/dispel RIGHT NEXT TO HIM or he WILL KILL YOU,

Darkness -(random+4 table with it) Not Much is known about this creature which resides beneath the sea. Though the collection of two emerald eyes are required to find its place of being.
⦁ Bring Death Ward
⦁ Arcane Defiance / Mage Foe can Help
⦁ Ultra Vision / Blind Fight can Help

Pirate-
I believe this is some form of undead of a man who went down with his ship and defends his precious treasure and booze even in to undeath.
⦁ Bring death ward.
⦁ Target the loot.
⦁ GET CLOSE
⦁ Pirate has a devastating critical hit.
⦁ High fortification and Armor (AC) are advised.
⦁ The loot is always a long fight. It’s mostly immune to Greater Ruin and has tons of Damage reductions to everything and it WILL heal.

Fire Giants -Some fire giants have bright orange hair. An adult male is 12 feet tall, has a chest that measures 9 feet around, and weighs about 7,000 pounds. Females are slightly shorter and lighter. Fire giants can live to be 350 years old. Most groups of fire giants include clerics. A fire giant cleric has access to two of the following domains: Evil, Law, Trickery, or War. Fire giants wear sturdy cloth or leather garments colored red, orange, yellow, or black. Warriors wear helmets and half-plate armor of blackened steel.

⦁ Bring tank of any kind,
⦁ Bring Mindblanks
⦁ Holy Avenger Helps

Windreaper- A damned Blue dragon. He lays below the surface. Years spent in the waste land of the Abyssal Plane had caused him to become insane and he behaves with chaos in all he does. 'Windreaper, along with his rival, Zamishar, a Copper dragon who is now deceased, have lived in and around Zanshibon since before the island sunk into the Abyss. When the two dragons descended into the Abyss, the planar travel affected them both in different, yet predictable ways. Windreaper's Lawful Evil outlook became twisted, and he was sent spiraling down the road to Chaotic Evil. His normally impeccable thought out plans, his well-made lairs, and in iron fisted control of the desert he claimed as his own, began to falter. He became more erratic, striking out at anyone and anything for literally no reason. As time went on, he began to lose his very sanity. This day, all that remains of Windreaper is a mindless feral killing machine. His hoard exists, though is long forgotten by him. He exists only to slay and murder.'

⦁ Bring a group
⦁ Elect resist.
⦁ Lots of minor mobs around him

MindFlayers/Illithids-
Mind flayers, also known as illithids, meaning "mind flayers" or "mind rulers" in Undercommon), were evil and sadistic beings, feared by sentient creatures on many worlds across the multiverse due to their powerful innate psionic abilities. Dwellers of deep Underdark areas, these alien humanoid-looking aberrations seek to expand their dominion over all other creatures, controlling their minds to use them as hopeless slaves and devouring their brains for sustenance.

⦁ Hags always open with Greater Ruin

Skeletal Knight
