This ongoing work is available only in the library of Tarkuul, and is written in Infernal.

Chapter 1: The Cult and Dogma of the Lord of Despair

The Lord of Despair, the Decayed, the Oinoloth - these are but some of the names that are given to the archfiend of Hades, on the first layer, Oinos. The Lord of Despair rules over a vast territory and is widely regarded as the ruler of the Yugoloth race, fiends which lie between the axis of law and chaos.

There is not a standard dogma of the Lord of Decay's cults, but there are certain characteristics and beliefs and standards we hold to, and these shall now for the first time be convened into the Dogma of the Lord of Despair, for all adherents to strive for. The dogma is as follows.

Beauty is a thing to be reviled - it is a mark of one who has not yet known the Lord of Despair. Good health, and youth, are things which we must toss away, in our bid to seek power at the hands of our Lord. Such is the burden carried by those who serve. Innocence is a failure, for it is beauty of the soul, which must be extinguished. Always be mindful of the burden you bear, and of the power you seek. Obey the degogs, for they are your priests and leaders, and always obey those who hold claim to the title of Archdegog, for they are the leaders of the Lord's cult on this plane. Never speak the name of our Lord in public, for to do so is give away one of his many secrets - his true name must only be learned by a Degog or Archdegog. Secret knowledge, power, and artifacts, are to be gathered, enjoyed, and employed in our bid for power, and never to be shared with outsiders - secrecy and discretion is utmost to the Lord. Lastly, act only in a manner to which is your favor and to the greater favor of our Lord and the cult which serves him.

Those who serve the Lord must remain vigilant, for the fairer peoples of the plane will not abide by our play for dominion, nor our disdain for their purity and the light which they bring forth. Stay cautious, and remain in secret until the time is right, and grow the cult, and serve our Lord well. Those who seek, and serve well, may even find themselves elevated to the status of a Yugoloth themselves, in service to the Lord of Despair.

Those who wish to follow and worship our ways will find that there is a burden, a price to be paid. Those who serve the Lord will have to undertake, under the supervision of some representative of the Lord, a plague or illness, which will disfigure them and mark them for life - however all is not lost. With this burden, much can be gained, and with this sign, much will be bestowed. Continue your studies, and even travel to the plane of our Lord may be open to you, for even greater rewards... Or for punishment, for those who fail to serve adequately.

Throughout this work shall be elucidated some more basic rituals and sacrificial rites that you may undertake as a worshiper or even researcher of the Lord of Despair, and these must be performed at the proper conventicle, under the supervision of a Degog or Archdegog ideally - otherwise one risks improper performance of the ritual, or worse, offending the Lord of Despair.

If these words do not frighten thee, then read on, and learn of the rituals and culture of the cult of the Lord of Despair.

Chapter 2: Proper Ritual For Sacrifices

The Lord of Despair demands sacrifices for certain occasions - the situations demanding sacrifice are thusly:

    When a new servant is being inducted into the cult;
    When a particularly strong blessing is desired from the Lord of Despair;
    When reparations must be made to the Lord of Despair (the sacrifice may not be enough to satiate him however);
    When desecrating a new altar to the Lord of Despair;
    When executing foes of great importance to the cult.

The Lord of Despair reviles beauty and innocence, as discussed in the previous chapter. Therefore, the optimal sacrifice is one who is either physically beautiful, or pure of soul and intentions - if one can find an individual that has both of these qualities, the Lord will be extremely pleased.

The proper method of sacrifice is thusly:

    The target must be subdued in some fashion - damaging them physically is acceptable if a priest is available who may restore their health, prior to sacrifice;
    One should infect them with disease, the preferred debilitation of our Lord - the more painful or disgusting disease, the better;
    Taking their innocence away is next. Whether by having them engage in debauchery, or illicit substance use,
    or by some other method, corrupting their soul for the Lord of Despair is the next goal.
    Next, one must torture the victim, to evoke the most heinous form of masochistic pleasure - melding pleasure and pain, corrupting whatever remains of their soul, twisting and turning into something that is unrecognizable to their former friends and family.
    Finally, the ritualistic sacrifice comes to a head and the sacrifice shall be bisected on an altar or stone slab -
    if such a slab is unavailable, drawing a pentagram on the ground in the victim's blood will be sufficient.

The procession shall be chanted over by a priest to the Lord of Despair if available. The chanting can be improvised on the spot, but must contain these verses at some point.

    Lord of Despair, Master of the Khin-Oin, this creature which once symbolized beauty and innocence on the Prime now falls to you.
    My Master, all glory be to you, all beauty be forgotten to hades, and all innocence be overtaken by lust and corruption.
    We now commit this life to you, Lord of Hades.

It is very important to note that all chanting during such a sacrifice must be in Infernal.

If you have done as it is recorded in this chapter, you will build your faith and favor with the Lord of Despair, and bring him power, slowly.
