Understanding Ki, the Spirit, and the Body

All living beings consist of two parts of a whole; the Body, and the Spirit. The Spirit gives life to the Body, and the Body in turn nourishes the Spirit. Ascension, or Enlightenment, as all Ki Warriors strive to achieve, is when the Body and the Spirit exist in perfect harmony with one another. They are connected by a network of what are called, “Chakra.” There are seven Chakras, each with their own unique purpose and effects. They all process what is known as “Ki” from the Body, to the Spirit, and back to the Body.

What is Ki? Ki is the energy of the Spirit. It exists all around us, permeating the world we know. The Body takes in Ki from all around, the ground beneath our feet, the air around us. As the Body takes in Ki, it passes through our Chakras into the Spirit, to be harnessed and manifested in many different ways, depending on the Chakra used. Ki, by itself, is neutral energy. The Spirit, however, can change it to other forms of energy, given enough focus and understanding.
So how does one bring the Body and Spirit to Harmony? The key to such is in understanding the Chakras connecting the two. Chakras are not inanimate, unchanging things. They grow with you, or wither with you. They are tied to your emotions, who you are. As you grow and seek enlightenment, so a Chakra will grow. As you neglect the Spirit and seek ignorance, so a Chakra withers. Each Chakra reacts to a different facet of Enlightenment, so the actions and thoughts of the Body affect the growth and strength of the Spirit and Chakra connecting them.

The Seven Primary Chakras are:

First Chakra: Root, symbolized by Red.
The Root Chakra sits at the base of the spine, and is the foundation for life. It is your center for the most basics of survival. The desire to eat, to breathe (If required), to drink, to have shelter, to survive.

Ensuring the Body is safe and satisfied is the way to strengthen the Root Chakra. Doing so brings healing, and releases frustrations. The Root is where Ki from the world enters the body. Neglecting your Body’s base needs for survival prevent healing, and lead to frustration, causing the Chakra to wither and process Ki less easily.

Second Chakra: Sacral, symbolized by Orange.
The Sacral Chakra sits just below the navel, and is your center for physical pleasure, as well as creativity for the world around you. Taking pleasure in your doings throughout the world, enjoying what you do, feeling ‘happy’ are the foundations of this Chakra.

One step beyond the Root Chakra, the Sacral brings emotion into life. It allows us to think beyond the mere instinct of the Root, and creatively deal with what life presents us with. Enjoying your life and your actions, and using your intellect to overcome your obstacles are what strengthen the Sacral Chakra. Otherwise you are filled with anger, resentment, and the like, as it withers.

Third Chakra: Solar Plexus, symbolized by Yellow.
The Solar Plexus Chakra sits in the lower abdomen, above the navel, and is your center for self love, confidence, and pride. Loving one’s self and releasing fear are the foundations of this Chakra.

One step beyond the Sacral Chakra, the Solar Plexus brings confidence into life. Pride. When one begins to take life into their own hands, and change the world to their liking is when the Solar Plexus begins to grow. Understand that you are a powerful being in your own right and that you affect your world as much as it might affect you. Taking pride in your actions, and loving yourself for the life you lead and what you accomplish is what strengthens the Solar Plexus. Guilt, shame, fear, anxiety, these things strangle the Solar Plexus, causing it to wither.

Fourth Chakra: Heart, symbolized by Green.
The Heart Chakra sits in the center of the chest, next to the physical heart, and is your center for compassion, empathy, and love of others. Understanding the significance of others and being open are the foundations of this Chakra.

One step beyond the Solar Plexus Chakra, the Heart brings love into life. A general love for all, special care for those who are close, and romantic love for those who are especially close are all matters of the Heart. Being open emotionally, and empathic to the suffering of others are what strengthen the Heart. Apathy is its downfall, causing it to wither.

The Heart Chakra is unique among the other Chakras. The first three; Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus are known as the Physical Chakra, as they pertain to one’s self in relation
to the world around them, but not other beings. The last three, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown, are known as the Spiritual Chakra, as they pertain to one’s self in relation to others, community, and the universe beyond. The Heart is the bridge connecting the Chakras to one another, allowing Ki to flow freely through the Body and Spirit. A withered Heart Chakra leads to imbalance as the Chakra cannot equalize their flow, leading to instability of one’s self, in addition to the apathy caused by the Chakra itself. Each Chakra is also tied to a specific other through the Heart, as will be explained later.

Fifth Chakra: Throat, symbolized by Blue.
The Throat Chakra sits in the throat and is your center for communication and truth. The base of living with other beings is in communication, and making your needs and desires heard. Seeking truth in all things and communicating with others are the foundations of this Chakra.

One step beyond the Heart Chakra, the Throat brings communication into life. Working with others to accomplish goals, and finding new solutions by working with others to accomplish what you could not alone are things that strengthen this Chakra. Making your opinion heard and understood, also important. Unfortunately, with communicating with others comes a chance for deception, this bringing in the Chakra’s desire for truth, to not be misled. Lies bring misunderstanding, and potentially hatred, which withers the Chakra. Feeling ignored also withers the Chakra.

Sixth Chakra: Third Eye, symbolized by Indigo/Purple.
The Third Eye Chakra sits in the center of the forehead and is your center for insight and understanding. Wisdom. The Third Eye is what sees the unseen, understands that which is unclear.

One step beyond the Throat Chakra, the Third Eye brings will and clarity into life. Being able to truly understand what is around you, to see others for what they are, and seeing a clear path in how you should handle matters of those with you. Whatever you might say of Wisdom is likely what you could say about the Third Eye. It is simply understanding. Insight and understanding strengthen this Chakra, trusting yourself when making decisions that seem logically unclear, perhaps, or seeing the answer in an unclear situation. Confusion, and worse, ignorance, are things that cause the Third Eye to wither.

Seventh Chakra: Crown, symbolized by Violet/Gold/White.
The Crown Chakra sits on the top of one’s head and is your connection to what lies beyond. Enlightenment. True understanding of one’s self. Harmony of the Body and Spirit. The meeting place of time and timelessness, death and eternal life.

One step beyond the Third Eye Chakra, the Crown brings serenity into life. An understanding of the world that is difficult to put into words. Much as the Root Chakra receives energy from the world, the Crown receives energy from beyond this world. The Crown remains mostly closed until the other six are in harmony with each other, only then beginning to blossom. The Crown stands for everything the others hope to achieve, a culmination of understanding and loving life and the world around you.

If I were able to find words for all that is awakened and understood by the Crown, I would share. But, I feel this is the reason they call it Ascension, or Enlightenment. A higher level of understanding, beyond words, perhaps.

Applications of Ki

Many have looked upon Ki Warriors and wondered how they perform such ‘superhuman’ feats. To bring greater understanding of how Ki flows through the Body and Spirit, I will attempt to explain how the manipulation of Ki allows such things.

How the ascetic dodges blows so easily: As the Third Eye Chakra is opened, one’s perception into the world is enhanced. So much so that the flow of time begins to become clearer. While not in the sense of any form of Divination that I know of, the Spirit can sense blows coming before they even begin to strike, warning the Body to evade a split-second in advance.

How the ascetic suffers not from poison, nor disease: As the Root Chakra is opened, so too do forms of healing. The Spirit is able to Cleanse the body of such things, nullifying their effects.

How the ascetic can heal their own wounds without prayer or magic: Ki by itself is neutral energy, but with training and focus, the Spirit can convert the energy to other forms of energy, much as the mage can pull from the weave different
forms of magic. In this case, the ascetic can manifest his Ki as pure Life Energy (Positive Energy) to mend wounds and bring wholeness of Body.

How the ascetic can speak to any living creature: The Tongue of Sun and Moon is a manifestation of the Throat Chakra. As one’s spirit learns to truly communicate with other beings, the ascetic can channel his Ki subtly into the Throat Chakra of another through their words, allowing their Spirits to communicate, not in a particular language, but rather by idea and concept, not limited to language. The Body being the conduit, speaks the words as they would in their language, but the Spirit understands.

How the Enlightened never age: When one’s Crown Chakra truly opens, Body and Spirit becoming one in harmony, as the Body nourishes the Spirit, so too, then, does the Spirit nourish the Body. The effects of aging do not take their physical toll on the Body, as the Spirit protects the body. The ascetic is not immortal, however, and will still pass when their time has come. They will simply pass away at the same physical age as when they Ascended.
