Over the past few weeks, a small, inhuman girl looking to be in her mid-to-late teens might have often been seen wandering the dunes and lounging on the rocks of Nes'ek, her hands ever full of sand and fire that she plays with while laughing. These visits have been growing more frequent, and the house by the leyline checked just as often for availability. Finding it empty, the fiery young girl could be found depositing a huge sack of gold for the place and demanding a key before disappearing inside for a few hours, where flickering lights burned in the windows until she re-emerged, shaking embers from herself and marking the door with a magical glyph.

Image

Those nearing the building now find the desert temperature reaching new highs as waves of heat hammer oppressively outward from the structure, and a courageous look through the open windows would reveal some unusual developments. A smaller chamber within seems only to contain a large bed of cushions and multitude of free-standing flames, burning without smoke or end around a strange, fiery fountain and red stone altar. In comparison to this stark, harsh, and inhospitable landscape, the larger chamber is fire-free except for the chimney, and is obviously a much-loved living space, designed with comfort in mind in a more traditional style, including a very large bookcase and massive bed.

Despite the newness of the occupancy, even now the place seems to be drawing in new life to Khem, such as a dark and lethally quick unarmed warrior, or the great Andrew Fryar himself. But it is the cerulean woman who is often seen in that fiery girl's company that appears the most, and can be easily spotted through the windows dancing in the larger bedroom with unnatural speed and grace, her rapier whistling through the hot air as she practices.

On occassion, one Raz'zak Zul'bayek, Firewalker from Thay (which he does tell literally everyone he converses with) can be seen within the desert town. While withdrawn from overtly socialising, the stern Mulani occassionally does reach out to lend aid when asked; likely to bless a watchfire or perhaps stop a hearth from spiraling wildly out of control. He also makes daily rounds at the everchanging peddlers and merchant trains, purchasing trinkets and effects such as incense, lamp oil, dried flowers of red and orange colouration and small rubies. A learned soul may easily determine that these are all materials used in major Kossuthan rites.

A dawn comes to the desert once more, and the fiery young girl can be seen burning with it upon a rock near Lathander's temple as she watches, her magic and inner fire dancing over her skin in sympathetic reaction until the roaring power of dawn fades. Beside her, a dark warrior of martial arts speaks for a while with her, before putting an arm around her shoulders. Pecking at his arm with her headpiece's beak, the girl finally disappears in an instant, and several blurs may be barely noticed crisscrossing Nes'ek before neither is seen again for a while there...

Little has seemed to be happening of late for the world to notice in Nes'ek, the fiery young maiden having apparently finally gotten comfortably settled in with the blue-skinned female of air, and both often seen about town, either relaxing in the sun or fighting upon the dunes with laughing faces and obvious pleasure. Yet now, almost out of the blue, the pair is suddenly seemingly everywhere in town at once, dashing with haste from merchant to merchant, their arms full of supplies and bags as they prepare for something in short order. Only a few minutes after the mad rush, a sign is quickly wrought in illusory fire upon their door by the golden-maned girl, before the odd pair rush off to finish packing...

A long time azure-clad visitor as swarthy as any native of Nes'ek now seems to be spotted in the company of a most unique and exotic winged woman of blue hue. They often are spotted in the hinters of the desert, seeming to enjoy wandering the dunes together although they frequently enter the village to spread a generous amount of coin about the merchants and folk there. The azure-clad man in particular often can be spotted with the gamblers tossing dice or wagering along with them on local camel and saluqi races.

A new man seems to be making his way into the life of Nes'ek. He seems to be the demeanor of a wealthy individual. He has two very distinguishing traits, a shaved head with three blue dots painted on his forehead. He would have a symbol of Horus Re adorn his attire, and wearing a simple Mulhorandi type attire. Dressed in Light blue, and gold. A small Sickle is strapped in a leather sheathe around his waist.

The man would find himself to be the only Mulharondi remaining in the Khem region. Perhaps he traveled there from those who elected to stay in Kohlingen when it welcomed them within their embrace two years prior? Who is to say.

The man would try and get the tradition of Nes'ek down. Clearly he is new to the desert. Quite unaware of the history in which happened there. All for sure would be is his interest in the Djedet Milita. The most he could relate to from his home.

Any Inquires about the Desert Militia would usually end with the informant telling the mulhorandi man to seek out Muharib Ramathant, the former Sekhry of Djedet. He would be said to usually reside in Kohlingen.

Meskhenet travels around the still ruined city of Khem, checking for any survivors who still may wish to relocate beyond the strange portal that tied the Mulhorandi island in the middle of the Alambar Sea to the island of Amia. It has been two years since the destruction of Khem and the priestess was one of the few Mulani who stayed behind even after shepherding the refugees off to their new homes. She is relatively known on the desert island and seems to be tying off loose ends before finally relocating herself. To any that may follow her, she promises to keep a part of their homeland within the silent stone walls of Kohlingen.

For years something had kept Meskhenet in Khem - in Mulhorand. It was not something she ever spoke about, but her emotional state upon arriving two years ago blended into the aftermath of the war and Gehenna. Over time, her attention turned from honoring the fallen, comforting the loved ones of the deceased, and rebuilding the ruins. She became one of the only clergy to take on faith in one of the two new gods that presided over the Mulhorandi people.

Her first foray beyond the portal to Amia was only months ago, but she had regained much of the strength that she had lost in coping with the catastrophe in Nes'sek.

It seems that the weathered priestess with the jackal pendant was finally ready for a new adventure.

The Azure-clad merchant steps out of his household and surveys the still-ruined village of Khem. His boy-servant returns leading his white camel back to the courtyard. Rashad pays little mind to the servant as he begins milking the camel for leben, sipping his coffee as his mind turns to the village.

The sheikh of these people is weak and ineffectual. The people seem beaten and despite the dinars he's put into the village, they still have the energy of tired slaves with spirits to match. He reminds themselves these people are ajami, not Enlightened and ponders if it is time for the Merchant to become Shiekh.

A middle-aged man wearing fine silk robes embroidered with golden hieroglyphs entered the township through the Ley portal. Those who look see the completely shaven head of a Mulhorandi man with two concentric circles in blue ink painted upon his forehead and green eyes, an uncommon trait for a Mulhorandi. He explored the town somewhat and eventually he ventured out towards Hasrabet disappearing unto the sandy horizon and beyond.

Whispers and rumours claim the chosen of Ma'at, the Magus, has returned.

Standing in the magically sulfuric wastes of Khalem where fields of emerald green crops once grew beyond view and boats sailed to and from greater Mulhorand, Aoth traced lines in the sands as he was lost in thought. After some time he placed his hand over his heart, and dipped his head before returning to his temporary quarters in Nes'ek, between the temple of Lathander and the Cathedral of the Martyr Saint. His conclusion simple and determination galvanised, the Magus of House Tholaunt would soon set to work.

"What magic wrought magic will make whole, for the Ma'at, for Khem."

A new member of the Djedet militia is seen patrolling the Djedet refugee encampment just south of Nes'ek with a smile on his face. He stops and talks with the citizens of the encampment, making small talk and generally trying to spread a good mood. Later in the morning, he would be found pushing back the minotaurs that have come to adventure too close to Nes'ek.

It could be noted that neither Meri nor Rania have been around for the past few days, and if the guards were asked, they would say the two have gone to visit the Mulhorand mainland to see his parents.

The priest would be seen back in his guard uniform, ensuring order is kept in the Djedet camp. He seems to be in very high spirits after his trip home and greets visitors with a large smile.

Just south of Nes'ek, Meriptah can be found practicing with a khopesh instead of his regular morningstar. He keeps at it for hours, sparring with other guards as well as having at a combat dummy. Sweat sheening on his forehead, he retires for the night.

Between martial training with his fellow guards and his patrols, Meriptah can be seen in his priest robes, leading prayer to the Old Gods in the south of Nes'ek. He offers blessings to adventurers passing through, and asks residents, both north and south, if there is anything they need or that he can do for them.

When leading prayer south of the wall, unity and harmony are emphasized. He supports the mingling of the north and south residents and the mutual benefits that it would bring. Regardless of religious and cultural differences, the people share the same blood and are family. Rania is also seen serving food and refreshments during the services and getting to know the town's denizens.

The Cathedral of the Martyr Saint rests carved into the stone near the Temple of Lathander and local market stalls. A young man, his steps heavy, made his way past the market stalls and Temple of Lathander to the Cathedral. His cloak carries the symbol of Kelemvor so it wouldn't be odd to see him enter.

Inside the Cathedral incense burns and it is cool and quiet. It's likely the nuns recognized the priest, Drusus. Although, he didn't greet them as was his custom. He came into the main room and took a seat on the front most bench. A little odd since the usual custom was to approach the idol of Kelemvor, kneel and pray.

It was hours before he moved after simply staring at the floor. Without a word he climbed the stairs to the second level of the Cathedral. He hasn't been seen coming back down.

Why a priest of Kelemvor might be trouped through the market area and into the Cathedral of the Martyr Saint wearing hand cuffs and chains is a very good question. As is why a fellow in a green outfit with a hood would back hand said priest of Kelemvor in the Temple proper near the Father, the choir boy and the idol.

In any case an hour or so later, this same priest left at a run from the Cathedral only to skid to a stop a few paces out and portal away. His injuries still showing what it looks like to be backhanded by a gauntlet and it isn't pretty.

Then finally the same priest returns. One Drusus Vel, Doomguide looking as if he'd had those injuries tended to at least. Once inside the Cathedral, he knelt before the idol and spent the next several hours in prayer.

As the new dawn rises before yet another day, a familiar priestess descends the steps of the Lathanderan Temple; she smiles to the crowd warmly, hands tucked away beneath the folds of her puffy sleeves. The local captain of guard stands vigil beside her, the rather tanned and handsome Khai, who remains ever stalwart with a spear and shield within close reach.

High Priestess Si'neela Akuum had called upon her people this day to join her in the square, a mass sermon that was to be heard by all who wished to lend their ear. A decent portion of the city had clambered to make it, rising earlier than even the sun itself to make it in time, or perhaps to catch the beginning of the homily before the day's toils whisked them away. Surely, it was an odd sight to passerby adventurers from distant lands, who had grown so used to moving through an otherwise lonely plaza.

There was not a peep among the crowd as she appeared. With but a single incline of her head, she had esorcelled their attentions.

"My dear children of Nes'ek,

We are the remnants of the ash in the mouth of Khem, torn asunder by the darkest god of our ancestor. Sent to abolish our home, or lives, our people. There is not a day that passes in which we do not recall the injustices that have been partitioned upon us. We have been beaten, stolen from, scattered to the winds. Separated, from foe turned brother; even though we did not enjoy the easiest of times with one another, our distant cousins, it does not mean we had stayed estranged. Nor that we will allow it to happen again.

They are damned, plagued by racism as we are by foul waters and land. Poetic justice, some may call it. But we will not stand by and allow it to ebb away at the spirits of our kin. But we too suffer. And we have been distracted for far too long with the division of our people, the sands that lay in ruin.

But fear not, my children.

For with a new day, comes a new dawn.

And this plague has ended. This drought, this ash, this illness has ceased. We stand here together, and we rise in unison to hear the call of Lathander and of Horus-Re, Gods merciful as they are just. They shine down upon us with new opportunity, new life. We must open our arms and accept it before it is too late, and we allow our stubbornness to derail retribution, recourse. Everything that we have been owed, for far too long.

We must come together and raise our brothers and sisters, lead them back to the home we once shared, with the vision of something new to come just within our reach. The Great Ten have sent upon as a messenger, who carried to me the message of hope. An even brighter tomorrow, at the hands of Mother Ma'at and Mother Isis, who have returned to us a beloved child of the people so that she may lead us to better days.

Together, we must cultivate her message and sew the seeds which we will some day reap. Treat her with kindness, with respect, as we would any of our brothers and sisters standing here today. Talyne, Princess of the Sands, comes with prospects we could have not dreamed of for generations to come. She will shepherd the growth that comes forth from our restored lands, and together, we will create our home anew. And we will share this vision, with our kin astray in a distant sovereignty, so that we may rejoice once more and grow as one again.

Leave me today with but one thought, my children:

Change is coming, and we must open our hearts to it."

A middle-aged Mulan male dressed in robes typical of a Mulhorandi scholar with two concentric circles painted on his forehead watched from the distance though remained close enough to hear the priestess's speech. Quill and book in hand he takes several notes before turning his glowing green eyes back on Si'neela, his expression neutral. As the speech came to a close he departed as silently as he had arrived, disappearing back into the wastes.

A young man stands upon the sand near the entry of the Cathedral of the Martyr-Saint. He listens intently and respectfully to the sermon. He wears the uniform of the Gray Watch of Kelemvor. His armor clean enough to reflect the morning sunshine like a beacon. His cloak bearing his Lords symbol and edged in gold denoting his Holy Brother status.

Topaz eyes and a friendly smile greet any who might look at him. He stands as silent but steadfast support to the Priestess of his Lord Kelemvors ally, Lathander, and the people of Ne'sek. Clearly Doomguide Drusus Vel is ready to lend what aid he can in the name of Kelemvor to the peoples of the place Lord Kelemvors temple resides.

A second Doomguide stood sholder-to-shoulder with the first. His waves of chestnut hair were pulled back and tied at the nape of his neck, allowing the morning sunrise to glint off of a pair of pearly opalescent eyes. Gone was the grim expression of frustration that had been growing since his arrival less than two ten-days ago. In its place, Shiloh looked peaceful, serene, even... hopeful.

He remained after the sermon to speak to any of the locals that wished, and then bounded back into the cathedral to attend to his duties.

As the days pass and the hopes of the people rise, they whisper and chant names beneath their breath to the sunny heavens.

"Meriptah of Anubis!"

"Princess Talyne of Isis!"

Their saviors, their caregivers. They spend several hours a day in vigil, muttering over and over; perhaps in thanks, or in desperation, so that the Gods may never take their protectors from them.

Drusus Vel strides from the crystal to the Cathedral his paces quick and purposeful. He carries a box the size of a hat box in his hands almost reverently.

He is barely inside before he comes back out to have a short conversation with a light gray robed and cloaked man. The man uncovers his head to revel blond hair and a luxurious beard. It would seem, from Drusus expression, he was not the least bit pleased with this man. Then the man turns to leave, Drusus makes a grab for the man who.... vanishes.

There is no mistaking the annoyance and frustration in Drusus tone, his voice as clear as a bell and carries about the square. "Seriously? Now you've made it impossible for us /not/ to track your pansy ass down. Gods how I hate stupid fucking demons!"

And with that the Kelemvorite goes back inside the Cathedral.

Forth from the scathing deserts, a young woman appears crawling on her hands and knees. Feet blistered by the sands, and the color of her irises seared away from the sun. The guards approach her with caution; she insists that they leave her be, until she loses cognizance shortly thereafter.

Rania comes skipping into the Temple of Lathander, holding a bank note which she immediately deposits into the chest reserved for the rebuilding funds. She smiles as she heads out, saying to no one in particular, "Two and a half million for plushies. That will really help with the rebuilding....but maaaaaybe I should open that plushie shop after all!"

Drusus arrives via portal after being gone to parts unknown for several days. He is dusty from travel and heads to the Cathedral. Where ever he's been has put him in good spirits as he gives a friendly smile and greeting to the locals. His stride seems lighter and the grim look is gone. It seems to be replaced with peaceful expression.

A brigade of people were seen headed for the Cathedral, some of their number carrying a tarp the size of a man. Inside the Cathedral was a bustle of commontion, the body of Fymor laid out upon the altar and preserved carefully with silken wraps, then taken elsewhere.

Talyne seems to have kept busy the past weeks, leaving little time to socialize. The locals have become accustomed to the large white osprey that circles and glides about town, the shaman blending seamlessly between her human and avian forms as she goes about her business, often speaking to merchants or labor organizers. The feathered woman spends a great deal of time scouting the wastes and barren terrain of the island, using her gift of flight to help the enigmatic Sand Riders plot new paths, and reopen routes to some of the long-neglected locales of the island. The Sand Riders converse with her as one of their own, and she spends a considerable amount of time helping with the husbandry of the Sand Creepers, arranging for extra care, proper stabling and feeding. She seems to have an uncanny knack with the animals, and their numbers start to flourish under her breeding programs. Those watching the shaman work might notice that she seems particularly fond of one member of the growing herd, an unusually large and battle-scarred specimen that she refers to as "Bahadur". The creature's carapace is decorated in faded jade paint with an ankh and swirling tribal patterns.

The creature is revealed as her own personal mount, and she disappears into the wastes with her companion for days at a time, with no provisions save her robes and a weathered staff. Wanderers and nomads speak of sighting her in the deep wastes at night, always deep in communion with the land, and surrounded by a faint spectral glow during her meditations. Those that notice her during the day speak of the shaman conducting strange rituals with bones and animal totems, and report that whatever she's doing seems to be making the monsters and animals of the wastelands restless and uneasy. The riders and nomads mention herds of creatures migrating from region to region, with the woman often a mile or two behind them, pausing to cast her peculiar spells. They mention that the castings always leave an uneasy feeling in the air, and that they did not wish to interfere with whatever work seems so important.

The Kelemvorite priest known as Shiloh emerged from the cathedral to join the morning workers. He had a ready and pleasant smile for the people he met, though overall something seemed to weigh on the man’s mind.

Shiloh would ask anyone that seemed to be giving direction where he might help the most. His skills with stonework, which had improved considerably over the last six months with all of the work inside the temple, were readily put to use. He set foundations for new buildings; making sure loose sand was scraped way to bedrock; or where none could be found, the sand would undergo a tenacious packing by dampening , scraping, and pressing it with heavy stone blocks. He made suggestions on how to sink pipes into the earth to tap into the water underground so that water could be brought to certain interiors as necessary. He worked for hours, alone or with a crew it didn’t seem to matter to him, to form walls out of row upon row of stone and mortar.

He was a constant presence to take care of injuries or illness, if the people allowed him to. On occasion, he simply walked around and offered water. Many days he would turn his love of cooking into a village-wide event. Whether it was meat cooked over an open grill, or a simple stew hanging over a small fire, all were welcome to partake.

The chestnut-haired aasimar generally worked shirtless and without shoes. The desert heat didn’t seem to bother him, or his bare feet. Perhaps some of his attractiveness was diminished by the alternating sunburn, peeling skin, and tan that the unrelenting sun caused. Hopefully his skills and tireless willing spirit would ingratiate him to the people of his new home.

Most days, when night fell and the work died down, he would return to the cathedral and continue his work there. The noise of hammer and chisel against stone had now been replaced with the softer sounds of wood being sawed, planed, and tongue & groove joints being gently tapped into place with a mallet.

A new face provides another strand in the weaving threads of active faces in Khem. Trystaen walks the edges of the outpost only stopping to talk with the guards. He carries his weapons on his back and wears his dark leathers and a linen cloth draped over his head and face despite the sweltering heat. Under one arm he carries a rough map of Khem and can be heard muttering to the more seasoned warriors about fortifications and extending into more outposts.

The following afternoon he leads a small group into the wastes and disappears into the hot drifts of arenaceous wind. That night they return exhausted and battered, though carry plenty of game for the town. As the denizens eat around a fire, the ordinarily gregarious man slips from the crowd. On the cresting hills under the night sky he practices with his weapons until his companion finds him. With a gentle hand, the smiling seer stays his weary blades before leading him out of sight until the next morning.

A letter is left for Talyne

Priestess Talyne,

I met a Brother Charles this afternoon. He is a Paladin of Salandra. He came to speak about forming an alliance between the Salandran temple and our cathedral. He is also interested in pursuing an alliance and future trade agreement with the village. During our conversation I invited him to help us with the restoration of the desert, and he sounded very eager to do so. He is an experienced lumberjack and doesn't mind physical labor.

Serving in peace and certainty,
Brother Shiloh

A certain industrious priest paused to position two new signs within plain view of the path from either portal entrance. One was a Welcome Sign, explaining the territory of Khem, the other contained the local laws as agreed upon by the council of faiths.

A flurry of activity follows in the next several tenday, as what remains of the militia of Khem regroup for vigorous training exercises along the outskirts of the desert. Lead by the handsome Captain Khai, his men are dragged through lengthy patrols along various routes through the waste; the purpose being to clear and pave the semblance of a path for traders and travelers. Any and all citizens who are skilled at some craft or labor are directed towards the Temple of Lathander and Lady Si'neela for contract or placement. Those who remain indebted to their Khemite masters are put to work in helping this period of refurbishment. Soon, a small crowd of able hands are mustered, though they wait for more numbers yet.

Just outside the barricades, not far from the desert guide, voices are heard echoing off the looming cliffs of Ne'sek. One of the two voices, a human male, is rather calm for the most part, and the other voice rises and falls with the occasional outburst. After a time of this conversation, the voices die out, and the ring of steel on steel is heard, along with the growls of an angry dire wolf. Perhaps a thump is heard, and the clash of weaponry is heard no more, and the growls and chomping of the wolf cease as well. A short time later, the human male carries the knocked out body of a slender male to a healer of Lathander, in the Ne'sek Square. Upon waking, the slender male and the human that carried him, exchange some non-hostile words and the slender male runs off in a flurry. The human male makes a donation to the cleric, then returns to the dire wolf that awaits him outside the gates, and they disappear into the desert.

The members of The Sembian Trading Company™ are seen every day and its evident that they buy all their supplies at the desert oasis. They are often joined by various guests and set off just as orderly as they arrived. They come by portal and leave by leyline, which is the only lingering proof of their destination.

Taelar would travel via portal to Ne'sek and inform the local guard forces, Lathandran temple leaders, and the Church of the Martyr Saint that there is a high probability of resumed Formian attacks and that they should be ready to defend the city and if necessary, evacuate to Wiltun.

A knight arrives from Kohlingen, approaching the temple of Lathander to give Lady Si'neela a warning about the imminent threat, much like the Wiltuner did before him. And offers assistance to the old friend of the Holy City if they accept it.

If anyone looked for Mahir, the commander of mulhorandi lineage they would be told he had once more been called into the the Blood Fortress in Sultim.

TripAs the day begins in Nes'ek a figure steps out of the portal from Wiltun. His first destination is towards the Poultry Farmer. In which he observes the farmer handling the multiple chickens. Then he moves towards the markets. He would be attempting to get the best deal with any merchant who'd buy stolen goods from fallen creatures South of Nes'ek.

After spending his day within the market hall, his bronze skin getting darker with the radiant sun. Malice takes his trip to Nes'ek further. He opens the large doors to the Temple of Lathander, and engages the High Priestess. He'd request a task, and she'd direct him to the Minotaur south of Nes'ek. These creatures, from what he understands, seems to be an issue with passing merchants. In which he would accept the task.

After such he heads south toe the Djedet and Lathanderites. Standing with a pair of Djedet warriors, and a gambler, who seems to keep taking Malice's gold. Pouch after pouch until a thousand gold is taken from either the two guards or the gambler. He'd offer a sigh as the nightfall comes. Before he takes his journey to a rented room, Malice makes multiple inquiries to the Djedet warriors. Seeking, firstly, the Captain. He would offer over a parchment.

Application:Name: Malice.
Deity: Of the Mulhorandi pantheon, Lord of the Sun, Horus-Re.
Skill(s): Skilled Warrior.
Military History: Was a body guard to Pusha in Mulhorandi. Pusha was a skilled artisan who travelled around often to sale his materials. However, he never sold to anyone not of Mulhorand decent and not in Mulhorand.

A Silver haired man would often be seen in the area, always heading south. He would disasppear for hours, sometimes days on end only to return filthy and covered in blood. After cleaning up he would sit about the Oasis, watching the children playing between the Order and The Temple of Lathander. He looks to the sky and mutters "I'll fix it."

Following a burst of light from Aoth's study, which was presumed abandoned until now, the Tholaunt wizard unceremoniously makes regular trips from Nes'ek into the desert sands. Within hours he returns in the same manner he had left and made his way to his study carrying with him piles of notes and sketches of hieroglyphs and artifacts. The most notable occurrence since his return is the hours he spent in the shrine of Hoar, copying from the book on the history of Khem into his own journal. His activities outside of Nes'ek remain unknown.

Aoth is seen taking samples from the well and waterfall outside the temple of Kelemvor. He is later seen returning from the north with more samples and taking them into his study.

Late at night there was a scream in the Chapel of the Ecclesia of Assuran after a sun elf female entered the building. When the guards entered they found the priest and the rest of the chapter killed. Although they were raised by the local clergy the Hoarites are unable to recall the attackers. They also had a guest treated there, however, it appears to be gone along with the sun elf female that entered the building prior the attack.

It seems that sand has become of value to the Gray Watch. Drusus is seen taking bucketful after bucketful of sand into the Cathedral. It takes him a couple hours of this activity before he doesn't appear outside again.
