It started as a faint itch, barely noticeable at first.

And then without warning, the scar would split open like an overripe melon, spilling forth a veritable wave of maggots, seething, writhing and picking at the tender flesh.

The waking world finds you a second later as you startle awake, perhaps even with a small cry, not having realized you'd fallen asleep in the first place. No maggots, only that ever-present scar, healed but not gone, in the same state it has been for the past several months, a cold sweat clinging to clammy skin in the wake of this latest "dream".

But why now? After months of relative peace, why now would it begin again?

//This would only be experienced by those who possess a Dreamscar. Those who do, feel free to post reactions, investigations, etc. below, or to PM me.

In the dead of night, those who are afflicted with the Dreamscars re-live the nightmare which first caused the effect; an odd occurrence since each night subsequent from that first harrowing ordeal, the nightmares have been widely varied and never once repeated.

When the dreams terminate in the same fashion as they did before, rather than a new scar forming, something else is left behind...

Wherever those individuals happened to fall asleep that night, when they awake, this... light, is there waiting for them. Should they happen to sleep with someone, or if they called anyone in to examine the phenomenon, they would quickly learn that only those afflicted seem to be able to see these "lights", whatever they are.

//Please PM me the location of where your character slept this night, if you have a Dreamscar.

Aerosque would wake with a start and out of reflex throw the covers he was wrapped like he's done every night since the dreams started back. He swung his legs over the bed and rested his elbows on his knees, staring at the cold stone floor of his new home. After a quick moment he glanced at his pillow, then to his new guest... The light. He put on his armor that would show who he was affiliated with and headed for the door, and before grabbing the doorknob he glanced back to The Light, then head out.

Covered in sweat the red haired woman rises from the bed, blinded by the light she shudders abit, she wasnt ready to return to active duty, not by a long shot.
she sat up on the edge of the bed and looked around the small chamber in the bendir inn, she got put on her armor and made her way out of the room to seek out council amongst friends.

The dreams grow more potent over the next few days (something you had prayed was not possible!) and any thought of afflicting any ally with this "power" quickly departs. As if whatever force is behind the dreams realizes this, any whispered promises of power also wane from the dreams, leaving only the cold terror.

Now, even in the waking hours, you catch yourself hearing the faintest trace of a peculiar sound, seemingly at random. You might be taking an evening stroll, listening to crickets chirping somewhere in the tall grass beside the road and as you draw closer, the sound shifts towards a low, menacing drone of insectoid wings, causing you to falter in your path before the sound disappears again. Or perhaps listening to a show in the Cordor theater, enjoying the melodies of the string accompaniment, only to have it shift subtly into the sound of elongated clicks and scratches until you shake your head to clear it. Seemingly ordinary-day activities and sounds begin to remind you of something which rested only on the peripheral of your worst nightmares.

Whatever is causing this, it seems to be getting "closer".

The once proud knight now kneels in a locked off mental cell in the salandran ward, her mind slowly betraying her, the veil between life and dream falling.
Despite flinching at the slightest sound she tries to regain her composure, praying to lathander for clarity once again.

Without warning, the "lights" which seemed to have stayed stationary since their appearance beside the "dreamers", would slowly but inexorably begin drifting away to some unknown destination. They would do so rather lazily, slowly, and would be quite easy to track, however those afflicted by the Dreamscars remain the only mortals who seem to be able to see them directly.

Each one seems to be heading in a generally southerly direction.
