But no, seriously, I hope they can pull it off well. I don't doubt they can, but holy fuck yes please. The question is what would Amia need to do, lol

Interestingly, Arelith and other big PWs have been contributors to EE's development.

I am not aware of these overtures having been made to Amia at all in any format. Though it's pretty obvious why, these days.

It is a split audience. The games are not cross compatible. EE is EE, base is base, the playerbases don't entwine.

I saw the video and its looks interesting, but I haven't checked their work on Baldur's gate... so maybe I'll take a look at those first to see if I should be happy or frightened

It's always great to see interest still exists in NWN as a game. But I'm not sure exactly what this means for us, if it's not compatible. I might check out the campaigns again, if there are fan-requested additions. Besides that, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I wasn't playing NWN or even NWN2 for the graphics.

Modules can be ported across. 3rd party extensions like NWNX are up in the air. The issue becomes: If Amia upgrades, so does its entire playerbase, if you still want to play.

If the only benefits are slightly better graphics and settings on a venerable game, I'm not convinced it's worth it.

If a majority of the NWN playerbase(that's left) somehow switches over, then yeah, it would be in our best interest. What the players do will determine what our server and others do. That was the case with the NWN2 foray. No one is going to want to do that amount of work without it being absolutely necessary. And without most players getting on board with this, it won't be.

Wouldn't the more likely outcome be that people who want to play the enhanced version having both it and the base version on their comp, to play what they want as needed? Or would they interfere/overwrite each other?

I doubt they would interfere, typically you can just install it to a different folder since it's a whole different game and all. NWN EE will likely be released on Steam, too, given BG EE was, which means more exposure. Moving the server to EE would be a positive move in that respect, because if you are on the new platform that people are now playing then you are getting more exposure. Plus, I can see old NWN lovers getting EE to sate that need for a game genre which isn't really catered for any more.

However the effect on the playerbase is notable. I'm already planning to get it if it's a hit, and I honestly think a lot of people would, too. You'd have to poll the server, or better yet set something up IG to ask people after logging in. Something that only was asked once that you can answer and the result is recorded. There's no way to guarantee that everyone is reached, but that's the problem with anything online, really.

So it's a hard call, either way.

Arelith has already announced it's switching over, no ifs ands or buts. no news re: other servers.

Amia should move to EE too if it comes out, especially if all the player created resources will be still playable.

I'd not begrudge an upgrade; heaven forbid it's more stable than NwN on my current machine! The latest Nvidia update nearly nerfed it.

The discusssipn reminds me a bit of the upgrade to... Shards? whatever. That one game.

Personally, I feel like it would depend on how much would need to be redone. I mean, I don't think Amia has life in it to build everything anew. That said, if it was steam/new/better, I feel like the chances to get new players are higher.

So, honestly, I'm sceptical. If it's done well, it can be cool. But it could also be a total flop. I mean, there's some nice NWN stuff, and I highly doubt all of it would be converted.
Or, if all player-made things don't beed to be redone,I don't see how much of an upgrade it could be...

I found it odd that the EE didn't list any enhanced functionality or stability for dedicated servers. Gods know it's needed for big PW's and would probably be the biggest draw/reason to upgrade.. Imagine Amia unshackled from the old quirks and problems from old game limitations. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAW YEAAAAAAAAH.

Improving graphics on a 15 year old game isn't going to do much, or attract new players.. EE looks worse than standard diamond edition does if you apply NWShader and some other optionals.

I have this problem too, but it's an old one. It pops up whenever Nvidia rushes out new drivers to cover big new game releases. It should be fixed sooner rather than later again, usually when you get a new driver with a .00 at the end, as they tend to be the most stable ones. Either way, I submitted a bug report on the current driver and the issues it causes for NWN, and information on the last stable driver and I know a bunch of others did the same so.. problem will get fixed soonish, I should think.

you can always rollback to 388.00 to fix the problem. 388.31 and the one before that were the two patches that introduced the bugs. (COD:WW2 and SW:BF2 drivers respectively. BF2 runs fine on 388.00 last I checked, so that shouldn't be an issue. Haven't tried COD:WW2 so no idea there.)

They have apparently been speaking to third party dudes who have been making stuff for NWN and this should surely be one of the bigger topics. NWN is known for its huge multiplayer base and modding, so it would be RIDICULOUUUUS for them not to improve server functionality.

It will be tested carefully when it is out.

There may actually be quite a few options how shit could hit the fan here.

If it does not, however, I see no reason why an update should not be made.

There is some BIG red lights.

Up to 64 players
DLC packs with portraits.
No expansions?

I pointed this out personally on the Facebook community board.

The big green light is new PR for NWN, might mean new blood, If we are lucky we see a influx of a few dozen new players to the community. If it is a pretty good port, we see few hundreds and if it's so excellent it greats shockwaves and shows the big companies they are dirty c**** who been dumb to not keep up with nice toolkits...we see influx of thousands of NWN players.

I hope they will make it easy for persistent worlds to transfer. I have high hopes atleast!

This should revitalize the playerbase too, maybe not TOO much but atleast some more players multiplayer-wise.

Where did you read this? The EE just speak of the modules Bioware tossed out. And additional? They release their own? Like Siege of Dragonspear?

The press release didn't mention that I think so I wait and see it from a more legit source than Cowtaco. Never liked em anyway but I hope it is right.

Okay..

The same company released Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and Icewind Dale with all the expansions.

WHY would they NOT do the same with Neverwinter Nights?

Seriously, it is obvious.

They were discussing NwN enhanced for a while and my ONE hope above all else was easy pre-existing module/hak/override porting/support. This'll HOPEFULLY breathe a lot of new life back into the MP communities.

If they move.

They just said that old NWN and NWN EE wont be compatible. This really worries me since I fear a splinter of the already small community where we get the scenario of servers being in the same game but on two different versions of it. What a mess.

For some reason I didn't see this before my previous post my bad. Do you guys plan on migrating? I know a bunch of guys are down to play. I'm hype personally tabletop is legit and all but I miss seeing it and dealing with bunches of people. After reading the posts a lot of people can't get working cd keys for the original version, myself included. Moving to EE sheds new light and shines light on the best rpg game ever. Servers like Amia and Arelith are why this EE was done far as I'm concerned. Someone above said it best change or die and let's face it to get this game and manage to make it work the. Finding the server is nearly impossible if you don't know what you're looking for.

There are going to be a lot of needed dev hours to get the server to EE.

Other servers have been working with (or had people outright hired) to do dev work for beemdog to prep their server for the transition. I do not know if this server participated in the EE development, but if not, it's all going to have to be done after EE launches.

It's backwards compatible, yes, but not cross compatible.

edit; arelith ee server up, it's a winter themed island. will be merged with existing server when it all goes to EE, player cap going to 400. live now.

Quote:
Arelith should be launching its EE server in the next few hours. This is an entirely new low-level server we have been working on in preparation for launch. When the game is formally released, and we migrate the main servers to EE this will be merged into our world.

The village of Skaljard was settled about one hundred years ago an isolated, desolate shore far to the north of Arelith. The seas are frozen over for much of the year, but when they do clear, for a few months a year places will able to sail for Cordor.

So yes, this is a real 'live' place, just not currently connected to the main isles.

Of course, nothing can ever be simple! I also hope Beamdog be hands of the servers and won't police. For all my dislike of Sinfar I hope they get to stay but considering the climate these days it would not suprise me if the Beamdog community throw a hissy fit and gets it closed. I am on the fence still if this is a success or doom.

One of their admins did work on it. Arelith's got preview copies (which you can get for preordering now, but beamdog's validation or whatever is funky at the moment), so they've put up an Enhanced Edition server shard for 1.74.

Well, isn't that nice? They pick out some servers and give them a head start while we get to sit in the mud.

Yeah I don't know why that might be.

There is not many active servers with a worth while population. If they have not asked the Amia owners about this, or POTM even, I heard nothing of POTM getting this access either. Im pretty suprised and start to question what they intend for this community or if they just want our money for another quick cash grab.

NDA was only lifted a few hours ago.

Only Arelith shown any sign of this as far as I know. I do hope all the big servers got their attempt at testing and looking over how NWN EE will work.

You can play now if you pre-order, so I would hope staff would have started by now.

Anyway good luck Amia. Hope the transition to EE is smooth.

Reading this thread.

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/6 ... eas-for-ee

Made me really ponder on what the EE got to offer. It feels on one part that they want to give NWN new notice and new care, with new blood coming in but on another I cannot help but feel it is just another minimal work effort by Beamdog to get new money and force a small community of vanilla NWN either to follow or die an "agonizing" death as a non NWN:EE server where majority of the community runs over and servers who refuse will be left rot with a diminishing community. They get their 20 bucks and then they can abandon the project to jump onto NWN2, IWD2 or perhaps BG3 if they manage to fetch the license. A possibility is also that they will police servers more to contain things they do not want to see. A splinter for a already small community. Beamdogs rep is not the best either, I would rather see CD Projekt Red pick this project up with an integrated GoG client.

Commie, from what you seen and heard, do you think this is a possibility or is it just me being sceptical at a to high level?

Buying in tomorrow. Hell, if we had to pay a dev, I'd throw in. I love Amia.
