What resolution are you running the game in? Sounds like it could be one of those issues. Also, make sure to update your graphics card drivers to the newest version or if that doesn't work even try a previous version in case the newest has some issue.
The image below is my settings under win7 if it helps. Important thing I did to bypass some issues was change the shortcut to bypass the nwn launcher. "
c:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe" in the first part of the settings, shortcut tab, target field.

...Beyond this I found what looks like a blog post that might give you some more things to try to the furthest extent that should be required. Includes some ini tweaks, running not in full screen and even dual processor and cpu speed stuff. Even a last thing to try, updating to directx9. I'd ignore the suggestion to only update to 1.68 though as I'm pretty sure that would make it so you wouldn't be able to connect to Amia.
