That's still just another method of grinding. Being able to gain experience from interacting with people not just clicking on certain objects in the world would be a great incentive for people to get more involved and invested in role-playing with one another. Also, Cerpin seems correct that the EXP rates should be instead modified to match that of P&P if we want to be more accurate to the source material.

The current rate at which you gain experience per kill and the arbitrary, nonsensical limitation of group sizes and level gap do nothing to benefit the play experience on the server. It promotes more of a anti-social MMO play experience than a semi-serious role-playing environment, which if that was your intended design, then you succeeded.

No insult intended.

The Xp is beyond poor for the job system. The few ways to earn decent XP has been nerfed to oblivion.

Why do we want to be more accurate to the source material in regards to XP-gain? A 3.0 game of D&D typically consists of a few players and an active DM that plans, calculates and decides on each encounter. You'll fight a dragon once, maybe even twice, and hence their XP is great. Here, you can fight a 'dragon' every reset, or more often if you go looking with more people.

For the reason I already stated that less time spent hunting dangerous creatures is more time spent partaking in events, storylines and the like when the majority of the server is already level thirty and thus most are tailored for difficulty of that level.

Still killing a dragon shouldn't net you 200 EXP or less just because there's more people. It's still a dragon. Likewise for every other creature. Just because the OOC mechanics of there being infinite re spawning enemies shouldn't factor into the rate of experience gained. There shouldn't really be a median between either painfully slow, role-play focused worlds where to reach beyond level 10 is a huge dedicated feat in of itself, and the polar opposite where everyone is level 20-30-40 and epic loot is abound. It doesn't dilute the rate at which a character gains experience, that's why EXP is plentiful in P&P. That's why usually bonus exp is awarded for role-playing in DM-run campaigns. Not just because there's so few people. Would you rather people spent time developing their characters and weaving interesting stories or have them clicking on the same mob x y and z?

Would even doubling the rate at which experience is gained really upset the "balance" of the server or the ratio of low to high level characters?

Also, since this is still in general questions, I think I read up that the intended power level for this server is around level seven... If that's the case, why isn't the level cap just set to level seven?

I've always thought the nomming of coins is something that skipped the drawing board and was never given any second thoughts. It should at the very least match the alternative methods of levelling up/earning to reward the player coherently. Tersely described, the XP gain should follow the logistic growth curve, whereas the gold gain would grow exponentially. At earlier levels the XP could follow the ratio of 2:1 coins for level; midbies would be 6:1 coins for level; epic would require 10:1, etc. The gold award could be pumped so that it actually mattered even in the slightest, because we all know it doesn't cash in as is.

EDIT: Never mind me, that's how it works already.

Also, Kotomine's question on the previous page wasn't answered to.

Quote:
I have a blackguard and I wonder about the aura of despair

Automatically-Given Feats:
These feats are gained automatically upon leveling and are usable once per day.

Aura of Despair
Starting at 3rd level, the blackguard radiates a malign aura that causes enemies within 10 feet to take a -2 penalty on all saving throws. This is a permanent effect that cannot be dispelled and does not have any accompanying VFX.

I have not got any feat as such....

So, playing a Historian who writes books. (NERDSSS!)

Trying to write "Khemite Religious Art" which requires observation of... something. And I'm running around all the religious spots I can think of, nailing everything and everyone clickable with my job log to no avail.

Please someone tell me that this isn't a casualty of the great Khem purge event or something? Is this still doable somewhere? Am I just looking in the wrong spots?

Heck if you want to PM me specifics, I won't mind. (To prevent spoilers for others.)

When Job System PLCs are requested, can they have a different than default appearance? Could I get a functional Cooking Pot that looked like an oven PLC, instead what it normally looks like?

It was a part of the whole removing-magical-anomalies plot involving the Mystran Grove. I forget if a post was made on the forums about it. But there's a general 'idea' of where to begin. :D

Can PCs who are not clerics still be considered priests/priestesses of their patron, in that they adhere strictly to the dogma and counsel others based on it? If not, what sort of title would a character like that have, that is not a spellcasting cleric but acts in the capacity as a priest (as an advisor, spreader of their patron's word, etc.) rather than say, a Templar or paladin whose concentration is in physical defense of their patron's dogma.

... if any of that makes sense.

I was the one who ran that event, actually. Yes, the magic eaters are gone without a trace. I don't remember if there was a post made, but I do know there's nothing left in the way of clues as to what happened to the things.

It depends on the faith, as far as I understand. For instance, both Mystra and Azuth are specifically noted as having wizards and sorcerers among the clergy. In fact the House of Mysteries, one of Mystra's most holy sites, has a wizard who is the titular 'High Cleric.' Or Lord of Mystery, as they like to call themselves. The Mystran faith also holds no distinction between cleric and non-clerical clergy, if that makes any sense to you. Though this is not the case for every faith. And I'm not sure what the case would be for Selune.

I've tended to view "priesthood" as a matter of education and community leadership, and the ability to lead people in ritual and prayer, rather than the ability to cast spells. I've been to lots and lots of church services in RL, and trust me, never once have I seen Father Mike cast even so much as a Cure Light Wounds. :) Both in RL and IC, church leaders are the people whose wisdom and experience the congregation trusts and respects. Many such people acquired those traits by way of having levels of the cleric class, but it's possible (though probably a bit more difficult) to get there from other paths.

Titles would likely be homegrown, and whether or not someone is seen as a priest depends almost entirely upon the parish. If they are willing to acknowledge the guidance of a non-cleric, then yeah.

Although I do not recall where I have read this, there are instances of characters with class different from Cleric taking position in priesthood, usually occupying lower positions in hierarchy although, as Nivo pointed out, exceptions heavily depend on faiths.

Cool! Yeah I just wanted to make sure there was not anything in lore I was overlooking- I know in the case of Selune's church the hierarchies are extremely chaotic so finding any hard and fast rules or even general guidelines are difficult- so I'll just keep making it up like I have been, as most of her clergy seems fairly self-styled anyway. It doesn't seem to me based on the faith that divine spells would be a requirement for followers to accept you as a leader in the faith, but I wanted to make sure that wasn't just my ignorance of the cleric class talking.

As in RL, most faiths probably allow members of the laity (unordained) to serve in various minor roles, e.g. deacon, lector, acolyte, catechist, sexton, sacristan, verger, etc. Whether or not one can rise to higher levels as an ordained/consecrated member of the church without actually being a cleric probably depends on the faith and, likely, its politics. The more political (or corrupt) the faith, the more likely. As an example, in a culture styled after medieval Europe, where the second son was expected to go into the Church, or where Church offices are by appointment (or for sale), clerical levels might not be necessary to rise fairly high. I don't think that less doctrinally rigid faiths, such as those of Sune and Sharess, or those of lower-ranked deities (& demigods), would have a problem with non-clerical members either.

But I can't refer you to any official pronouncements on this.

I have a question regarding racial abilities. I was almost sure they supposed to be natural bonuses (like racial skill affinities) and not count towards +50 skill bonus cap from equipment. Though for now they do for some reason. Isn't it a kind of bug?

Most faiths field laypriests ordained by divinely-called characters (clerics and the like). Laypriests are expected to more or less do the drudgery of day-to-day upkeep and mundane duties of the priesthood (like offering guidance to the flock, performing weddings, seeking converts, etc). Clerics are the power's Chosen who are in constant and palpable communion with the power and a vessel of the god's power in the world at large, tending the god's wants and agenda. Clerics are agents of a god who's faith is so strong the god can literally act through them and as such, most are likely too busy doing the god's work (literally) to waste all day on paperwork, weddings, and streetcorner preaching.

It's similar to having a fleet of ships. You send your aircraft carriers out to dangerous, unfriendly waters and keep the dinghies close to home. A cleric who spends all day at home safely doing little else but smiling at the faithful and listening to problems will probably not receive spells during prayer no matter how epic they are. Not because they're doing anything wrong, but because gods don't needlessly expend their essence on a servant who won't likely need it. Gods want their big guns fighting enemy faiths or doing the more dangerous works pertinent to their portfolios, wheras anybody with a mouth can perform a wedding or preach.

Mind you, any laypriest still needs to be ordained by an actual divinely-called character and will be considered much lesser than such in any hierarchy.

I don't think this is as constant a rule as you seem to be implying. A "church leader" (i.e., a "priest") is anybody who the church agrees to look to for leadership. It's probably way easier for a cleric to attain that kind of respect and regard, but I think there is (and should be) a lot more variability to it than you're describing. The churches of Lolth and Bane, for example, are explicitly defined as being absolutely dominated by clerics. But I can easily imagine the leader of the church of Siamorphe (for example) being the highest-ranking noble in the area, or the leader of the church of Waukeen being the richest merchant among the faithful, both regardless of their actual character class (if they even have a character class).

is the only way to change an item's description to use the job system or can I use mythals or dreamcoins as well?

Was just kind of curious..since we are able to change the item name via dreamcoins anyway...

...speaking of which if we can edit the name why cant we change the description with dreamcoins too?

As far as I know you can get both the name and the description of an item changed for 1 DC.

Hello, I am playing an Arcane Archer and I wonder how can I use my imbue arrow feat to add elemental damage to arrows. Targeting and arrow or myself doesn't work and I have no idea what else try to do to make it work.

Also I heard there are arrows specificaly for Arcane Archers. Is it some kind of rare monster loot or is there some shop or quest to obtain them?

See here for info on how Amia's modifications to Imbue Arrow work.

As to where you can get the super cool AA arrows... there's not really an NPC shop, no. But there is a thriving trade in barter among PCs for such things. Find a PC AA in game, they're usually glad to help hook up a newbie. :)

When metamagic is applied to a spell already modified by Abjuration Spell Focus, does the engine correctly modify the already modified spell effect or duration?

Examples:
1) Empowered metamagic:
Spell Mantle: "It can absorb up to 1d8+8 spell levels before collapsing." This gives a range of 9-16 spells absorbed. If a mage has SF:Abjuration, this is increased by +1d3 spells absorbed, for a range of 10-18 spells absorbed.
When Empowered, the base spell increases by 1.5x to 13-24 spells absorbed.
What happens with the Empowered version of the spell if a mage has SF:Abjuration?
Does it apply the 1.5 x to both the base spell range and the extra range from the SF?
1.5 x (1d8+8 + 1d3) = 15-27?

2) Extended metamagic:
Resistance: Base spell has a duration of 2 turns. With SF: Abj, duration changes to 2 rnds/lvl.
When Extended, the base spell increases to 4 turns. With SF:Abj, would an Extended version increase to 4 rnds/lvl?

When using Tensor's, do potions still work? Or are they nullified too as part of the 100% spell failure?

I came back after a few months break, something broke with my NWN - when i click "Join Internet Game" there is a 20 second delay before i get through. Now i know this was solvable by editing the "hosts" file (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=71682), which i did... so... yeah.

Clues? There a new IP or something? My hosts file looks like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com
0.0.0.0 nwmaster.bioware.com

The original fix was for circumventing trying to find biowares master server, which got taken down awhile ago. This new 'thing' is probably due to Gamespy finally being taken down I imagine (after being extended to mid July) so no idea how to get around it myself. Or I could be entirely wrong.

Thanks for the shortcut tutorial Suhjet, that'll help i'm sure!

As for the potions, uhhh... you certain TS pots don't work while Tensered? I have two spellswords with Brew Potion taken specifically so i can have easy access to TS pots, i don't recall any issues using them. I mean they work, but they don't give you flat +20, they give you up to +20 total (cap) taking into account other AB buffs (even though character sheet says otherwise).

Unless something has changed?

EDIT: Made a screenie, but can't find it ;o Here's the log though.

Granted, when I tried it with my spellsword it's like two years ago, maybe even more, and I am absolutely positive TS potions did not work whilst Tansered back then.

Maybe a DM could chip in with how it works now?

Are there any updates on the Bioware TS that Terra was working on? Umberhulks still see everything there is to see.

How useful are the Blackguard summons with Epic Fiendish Servant? As in, can they survive high level areas? I've been itching to create a monster summoning plate-wall for a while now, and would like to know if Blackguard is a workable option.

They used to be unbeatable. Now they're on par with EDK or EMD, depending on your alignment.

You don't get to see the intro?

Not really, no. You can always fire up the main .exe or the launcher directly when you don't want to connect to Amia.

(Assuming Windows OS): Make two shortcuts of nwnmain.exe on your desktop. Right click the shortcut and go to properties.
Add to the target command line: +connect 185.29.203.11:5121 and running the shortcut will instant connect you to Amia A.

Both shortcuts just crash nwn as soon as it opens. Any advice?

I really like having a panther as an animal companion, but the fact that I can't make him use stealth mode tends to mean he gets targetted first and almost immediately killed when hunting. Is there any way to make him use stealth?

I don't think so. If you do not want your summon to get targeted first you have to learn how to use controls such as stand ground, guard, attack nearest etc. It takes some practice.

If you don't mind possessing him, you can enter stealth mode manually through the radial menu.

It used to be that your panther would enter stealth mode when you did, but it hasn't been like that for many years now. It was mentioned somewhere if you want to try to search for that thread and see if it has any answers in it for you.
