The Terror of the North - Contract

"I, Wetzel, have a task for any adventurers who are willing to embark on a trip to halt the Tyranny of a Great White Wyrm in the Great Glacier of the far north. The great Wyrm is known as Glacial Blizzard among the locals for its tenacity to reek terror and death from the cover of some of the most deadly blizzards the material plane has ever known. The Wyrm is malformed having two large overgrown tusk-like fangs that hyper extend past its jawline.

Killing the beast is optimal but most unlikely. I post this contract for the attendance of around ten able bodied individuals to assist me in maiming, killing, or at the very least deterring the beast from its current territorial expansion.

I will pay fifty thousand gold for all who attend. An additional two hundred thousand gold if you are able to maim the beast or adequately halt its expansion. If we slay the beast I will give half a million gold to all who attend. You will not be allowed to keep any scales, bones, or other tokens from the dragon.

Trackers, trap specialists, mages, and more will all be required. The beast is beyond clever and we must draw it out. I will only take as many as I can move so be prepared to impress me with your talent and your ideas."

A note is tacked up underneath Wetzel's...
Quote:
I would consider it an honor to take on this quest. If a White wyrm is terrorizing people, I also see it as a personal duty to aid in it's destruction. I am no mage, nor can I unset a trap, but, I can guarantee you I will stand strong against any foe, and defend my compatriots to my last breath to see this creature stopped. I myself carry the blood of an Ancient Gold dragon in my veins, and with that the willingness and ability to see this through.

If you consider me worthy of this task, I can be reached in Kohlingen at the Keep or I will simply check this notice board.

[A note, scrawled almost uncharacteristically scratchy by a somewhat irritable hand, makes its way to Cordor after a day or so -- without much sign of who put it up, one evening...]

Adventurers be awares,
I will remind you that this White falls under the protection doctrine of our Covenant. Regardless of the creature's alleged faith in the Human diety 'Auril' or his actions, it will not be exempt from that protection; and I strongly put forth that it would be better for everyone if the creature is left unfettered -- for us to arrange the relocation of ourselves.

Further meddling or pursuit of the subject will not be tolerated, and names whom post here will be noted.

I will, however, pay a one hundred thousand coin premium to anyone whom aids in simply relocating them; and otherwise tells me anything they can of those who have already posted. Thank you for your consideration.

Hello,
I'm not sure how much I'd be able to help, but I have a pretty steady hand with traps. I can fight as well, and I believe I am resourceful enough to be of use in this endeavour. considering that this dragon is evil, I believe it is important to take care of this problem. Permanently. Additionally, it is not right to protect evil dragons. Therefore, I don't think these threats are going to deter anyone. Or at least I hope so.

[The following addition is tacked on. No names is left, but the writing is sightly, and in blue ink.]
MezwarSo not only are you the judge of who is "evil", but you also get to judge what deserves to be mindlessly killed? Isn't killing "evil", in and of itself? What a vaunted sense of so-called "justice" that you have. Since killing is your first thought, rather than diplomacy, you should look into your own demons, rather than giving into them to slay a magnificent creature.

Dragons are intelligent, and are more than capable of speech and diplomacy. Since no attempt at communication has been made, this is murder. Quite literally, people who claim to be "good", which if I'm not mistaken, like to use means to avoid needless bloodshed, there is quite a bit of hypocrisy present on this board.

Since this Guild is based in Cordor, I present first, Pillar of Law A.
*Assault/Attempted Murder

And Pillar of Law B.
*Discussing/Planning with intent to cause harm or commit a crime.

Would you claim that a demon should not be slain? Both are intelligent beings, however at the same time they are threats to the peace and security of everyone around. While it would, of course, be better to come to a peaceful solution, we have seen that this dragon has already killed many people. If I'd ever see a nice white dragon, I would be ready to admit my failure. But a dragon putting many lives in danger? Not something I'm going to try.
It's funny that you quote the law, actually. For your first statement, even if this is attempted murder, it's not in Cordor, so there is no influence there. As for the planning? I'm confident that planning to free the North of a dangerous monster terrorising the area. Also, which crime would I commit? Murder? Like I said, not Cordor's jurisdiction. I even doubt up there killing an evil dragon is a crime. So, I would not be planning to commit any crime. If you really want to bother, go to the guards and see what they say. If I just committed a crime, I guess I did. Would be wrong not to seek justice then.

I also think you made a mistake there. I never claimed to be a good person. I am well aware of the fact that I have caused enough grief for a lifetime. Doesn't mean I'm not allowed to help people out, right? Doesn't mean I can't change.

[A new reply is made.]
Of course, I'm sure you enjoy helping people, so long as you not only get to satisfy your primal urges for murder, and you get your gold.

This false equivalence means nothing. Demons permeate with utter evil, and such dominates both the roots of their nature, and is the essence of their very bodies. And, unlike Dragons, their deaths are temporary, and they are not of this plane. Killing it is quite harmless, excepting when their plans are delayed. But white Dragons? Naught but hunters. They prefer merely to keep themselves comfortably fed and housed. The fact that you wish to slay an Ice Creature in a barely hospitable, icy land is outlandishly foolish. Allow Achuak'iejir to convince it away from its heretical ways, and the path to the Aurilites will be cleared. The real threat to civilization in that place: the eternal winter, may be lifted with the Aurilites toppled.

But it doesn't look like you want that. You couldn't care less about seeking actually permanent solutions, like I posted above. You would rather kill an intelligent being for merely living in an otherwise inhospitable place that is nonetheless suited to it, get your gold in doing so, and not look like the bad guy, because of people musing lies, similar to your own, about such creatures. With your proposed actions, creatures of ancient lore, artifacts, and Magic would be lost forever. Everyone sensible should oppose such an atrocity.

Anyone who checks Cordorian law can verify that the laws only apply within Cordor, and that to wit, the city does not really seem to care about a plan to kill a white dragon thousands of miles away. The Guild, therefore, seems pretty safe, from a legal standpoint.

[Another note -- snuck up by a kobold this time if observed...]

Clarification to a ser Mezwar,
In good faith that it will clear certain confusions -- I would clarify a single facet of my interpretted intent. Please do not mistake my statements for being reliant on or encouraging not bothering in your pursuit. I am an honorable woman who levvies no baseless challenges she doesn't intend to meet. I am offering the better path of payment to those who would prefer to solve this sans bloodshed, and expressing a reminder of my oath and divine mandate.

I completely encourage you, please, if the offer of an easier job with better payment and an equitable outcome is not satisfying beyond all reason; I will not disallow your meaningless crusade -- but know that it is not threats I levvy so much as objective statements. I have a divine mandate to my people, as do my kin; embark on this knowing that you will be slain before you reach it.

To save you ink and further clarify: I am not socially dysfunctional, and disapprove of arguing through written messages like everyone else on this isle. I am not interested in making thiz clearer for anyone, nor interested in your opinions. Just take this as your formal notice as an enemy of the Thran'daariv Capital City-state of the Imperium.

I can clearly see now that this was either bait or has simply become a hunting ground. I can't say I'm surprised, and I hold no doubt that those threatening to slay any who pursue this quest won't make the attempt to do as they say. I am also little surprised that they try to sway opinion using concepts of good and evil, twisting the words. It's a well known fact that some beings are simply created and intended to be evil, and others are good. This is simple fact, not open to interpretation or discussion. The killing and harassment of a community of people, no matter where it is, is never a "good" thing. While I don't necessarily condone the killing of this white dragon unless there is no other option, any creature, be it dragonkind or no, that willfully attacks and harasses innocent communities should be dealt with, and I'm sure even my chromatic cousins would agree.

It does appear this quest is moot, and simply going to present more issues than it solves. I can hardly put others at risk to see it through knowing they will be hunted before it's begun, all to stop something in a far off land that none of us know anything about.

I do fear Stormwind's actions to "persuade" this Dragon serve her own purposes, as I doubt she will relocate this creature, instead, attempting to bend it to her purposes. Sending her the location will play directly into her plans, and I suggest the location not be revealed to her.

I highly suggest private communication on this matter, should it still be pursued. It's no secret I am of Kohlingen, and can be easily reached there.

// before this goes any further: This is silly. The policy that I was aware was that you check the boards and apply within. You know..presumably to the guild members that are always around. So there would be no long list of names to which Stormy and her guys could threaten. Also...all this IC discussion is in the wrong place. The argument that you are hunting down and "murdering an intelligent creature" is the worst. If it's intelligent then the mayhem and destruction it is wreaking is intentional, and you should expect action to be taken. Again this argument feels like it is in the wrong place, as this is a job posting. Posting a notice to kill people is an act of PvP. So don't be surprised if you get destroyed the minute after you hop off the cart somewhere as I would use said posting as an article of evidence in my impending, self defense court case. Also you posted the intent to commit murder within the walls of Cordor.I don't expect people to react to that as casually as you expect.I would recommend retracting said posting before someone appeals to the law knights that you be banished from Cordor as you are clearly murderers. Tighten up your shot groups, the DM's are trying to do something fun. Let other people have fun too. This is a reminder that on the threads as much as in game it is very IC and the consequences to this can result in immediate pvp as you initiated it. // edit: conspiracy to commit murder is a crime. So even if the killing did not happen in Cordor, a crime was committed in writing, in broad daylight, in view of everyone and bears an official seal, making this a faction action, not a personal one.

// not trying to start shit but pointing out that clearly at the beginning of all of these responses to the job posting they are 'posting up their response with a note of their own. So therefore they would have names left for Stormwind. If you hadn't noticed, Stormwind posted her own job offering in this thread. just sayin ;)

So you want to hunt me and any other person trying to help the world, because we are murderers or are planning to murder? The white dragon murdered people too. A clear intent to kill people for food. A consicous choice. Now, you are claiming that dragons are intelligent, and there would it not be the dragon that has committed murder, and we the ones hunting it for that? That gives us as much justification to kill it as it gives you to kill us, save for the question of who will hunt you for the murder of us? Or i it just you and your dragons that get immunity from retribution? If the dragon is an intelligent being that does not value life enough to preserve it, it deserves punishment.

And then you claim the moral high ground for protecting a muderous, evil creature? I find that, honestly, amusing, and highly so.
And you arguing by law, when you yourself openly threaten to kill me? That is simply hilarious.

A note is posted on the board...

Adventurers who read this board,

I have a terrible discovery to share with you all. There is a place on this isle, near the Benwick Region,
that is rife in both dragons and drow. Both are a great threat to the people of this isle. I would ask any adventurer wishing to rise up against them to band and take a stand, and drive these drow and dragons from our lands.

Undoubtedly they have much in the way of ill-gotten gains, as a reward for any who would slay these beasts.

The note isn't signed, though...
