(DM input requested)

An announcement is posted inside the Slanty Shanty a little past noon. Captain Alanna can be seen spending some time in the Shanty, talking to people about their concerns and, well, drinking.

Quote:
"Citizens of Wharftown,

It is with a heavy heart that I must insist upon mandatory evacuations for all non-combatants to Kohlingen. I know it is not an easy thing to consider, but you and your families will be safe and well-provided for there.

All people of fighting age in good health are asked to volunteer for the militia. Combat skills are not a prerequisite- we will also require scouts, archers, messengers, and those with arcane talent. If you are interested in defending your home, find Lieutenant Gavin or Captain Alanna and be prepared to give a list of applicable skills.

Every family moving to Kohlingen should bring only necessary items such as clothing and blankets, as well as whatever food stores they have. Each family will be given a stipend of 500 coins to help facilitate the move and make related purchases.

All families must be ready to move no later than three moons from the posting of this message. Any questions or concerns can be relayed to Mayor Garth or Captain Alanna.

Those who stay behind will do everything in their power to preserve the town we all love. Gods willing, it will be much the same when you return."

*Reading the notice during a very brief moment out to get a bit of broth in before going back to Alanna's house to sleep, the Gnomish Magician temporarily in Wharftown would nod a little to himself , resolved as best he could be in his fatigued state*

Traffic in and out of the Captain's home has reached a fever pitch as of late- it seems she's turned it into a de facto war room for the town. The small stone house, already cluttered by Alanna's extensive collection of bones, dried plants, crystals and other knick knacks, has been further overtaken by large detailed maps of the Amian island as a whole, the West Coast, and Wharftown.

Over the map of Wharftown, several large circles have been drawn, with a blue flag in their center. Beside it, a small parchment map key, indicating the blue circles represent Dimensional Lock wards cast. Everything in the town from the sea to the Northern, Southern, and Eastern borders are covered, save for the location around the lamp to the Triumvir.

A materials log is also prominently displayed on the wall.

*At a point later in the day, the Gnomish Magician who'd been temporarily camping out at Alanna's left for Kohlingen briefly, with the explanation he was returning to catch up on some documentation in case something of note had come to his desk which needed immediate addressing. He did promise to complete the last portion of the warding of Wharftown though , either later on or on the morrow dependant*

After a passing fortnight, Wharftown's civilian population made their final preparations to board Captain Guston's vessel for the Holy City's welcoming ports. All non-combatants, per the Captain's orders, were packed and made ready to sail early this morning. Their goods and personal effects were not the only weight they carried onboard, with them came an all to pervasive feeling of dread and sorrow. Wharftown's hardy and resilient population had finally given in to the fear that plagued the island and, with no other options, left the fishing township that they all called home. Demoralized and downtrodden, they sailed North.

Those who remained were not many in number. Some of the town's officials (Garth among them), fighting age sailors, militia and the clergy of the local temple opted to stay. Only allowing themselves to leave if imminent danger forced them from the town's limits. The township still saw life, mostly from the posted contingent of Kohlinger forces, but the dread that fell upon the civilians was still felt with those who remained. Readying for war is ever a morose business.

The trek to the Holy City was unenventful, The Holy City's gates opened for these beleaguered travelers and Kohlingen accepted them into the safety of their walls. It was then up to Kohlingen's guardians to provide for these refugees.

*Having done some work to the end of researching willing households to billet the refugees, Tuomas would have spent a portion of the early day helping to ensure they're directed to those households without much trouble, also taking a count of the number of refugees who've already come in*

After helping the families get their belongings on the ship, and consoling a few particularly distraught residents, the Captain watches the ship head for Kohlingen from the docks as a storm comes from the east. With a crack of thunder, those left staring at the now empty horizon get back to their tasks, but Alanna remains, fists clenched.

"You'll have a home to return to. I promise."

A large shipment of spider silk, raw lumber and stone head out from the harbor bound for the Citadel of Barak Runedar for construction of siege weapons; at the same time, Garth receives a much needed delivery of armor, enough to equip the entire militia, from the half-orc Dirgesh Helvet, who seems to be a friend of Alanna's, with promise of weapons to come.

Though her carpentry work is poor at best, Alanna spends the next few hours on a ladder, installing a platform for archers at the top of the town's palisades. She seems in a dark mood, and takes to her task with a certain single-mindedness that does not seem deterred by splinters, cuts, or even when she smashes the tip of her index finger with a hammer.

Harold would still be in or around Wharftown almost all of the time, often being near the seaside and working quietly, though not when being watched by someone he doesn't know well.

In those cases he either talks to other guests from Kohlingen or goes for a drink in the Inn.

Supplies were unloaded and cataloged off the ship at Brogendenstein's harbor, care was taken, not a metal spike or foot of rope was forgotten or misplaced. With speed and efficiency only dwarves could muster they were made ready for the construction effort taken on in Wharftown's defense. Once again the engineers and workers bent low their backs. Teams of dwarves strained and grunted in unison to cadence and song as ropes were coiled and twisted taunt in torsion mechanisms set to deliver death on command.

The teams had their duties and jobs down pat by now. More members were added to the teams and taught the detailed schematics of the dwarven ballista and catapults. The new crew members struggled at first when building scores of engines for Cordor. They were more familiar and learned when they built yet scores more for added fortifications and defenses of Barak Runedar.

Now the teams sang and grunted with perfection, experienced hands and knowledgeable minds worked together without the need for barked orders or lengthy meetings to answer questions or to clarify plans and schematics. This time they knew the plans like their favorite ale, and soon finished catapults and ballista were arriving in Wharftown along with a small team of dwarves to teach and drill the defenders of her shores on the nuances of the dwarven built weaponry.

As test shots were fired into the sea, pride was easily seen on the bearded faces when their machinery easily out distanced all others. Afterward a letter arrived in Barak Runedar to Reddok's attention from the training crew. Apologies were given but the reason was sound enough for the red haired dwarf. Upon celebration of their finest and furthest shots, the dwarves drank Wharftown dry of ale and requested stocks to replace the now empty stores.

[The day of the evacuation, Kerim would have been aiding any family's that needed it and offered to check any person out with concerned medical conditions before they departed.]

A tall, lanky human woman comes through Wharftown once a day or few, hauling armfuls of whole logs and cut planks of various kinds of lumber. She seems to choose the least active hours to arrive at the Shanty, have the lumber added to the supply, and then makes her way out while avoiding social interactions beyond a murmured greeting if cornered.

Within an hour of the assault on Uhm a small contingency of elves is seen entering Wharftown from the East -- twenty leather and mithral-chain garbed archer-scouts fully prepared for battle. Once they arrive the officer at their head - a tall sun elf in gleaming mithral plate - gives a list of succinct orders, the small force splitting into each direction of the compass. A contingency moves along each direction of the coast, immediately setting about scouting the shoreline. The rest aid in the daily tasks and duties of the soldiers stationed within the fishing village.

The officer, grim-faced and focused, returns whence he came -- yet not without leaving word for Commander Alanna of the Wharftown.

Within a day and a half of Uhms destruction, a medical camp flying Salandras colors springs up just outside of Wharftown welcoming any and all who need medical attention, a young spirited salandran combat medic goes out of her way to attach herself to any milita patrols that leave to patrol the areas around the village.

Those who came to Wharftown, would now notice a small number of Ballista manning the edge and pointing out over the docks - men of Kohlingen lingering around and now aiding in the security of the small town.

The Warband's Operations Commander is seen inspecting the detachment of the People's forces in Wharftown on a daily basis. It is obvious that the officer is a perfectionist -- and that the same commitment to detail and discipline is demanded of those under his command. The archer-scouts are drilled regularly; and, while not training, subordinate commanders meet with their superior to deliver regular reports.

During his brief visits he makes it a point to address the local population - both military leaders and public officials - to see if there is any way that he and his soldiers may offer aid. Whether it is menial labor, access to resources, or relief of a post, Ronyo makes it a point to oblige where he is able.

Along the coast there seems to be a silence for a time. This seems a bit odd but when a small group of elven scouts followed with their leader of the elven Warband is among them it seems to explain much. Along the trail they followed is bodies of monsters and bandits being burned in piles to save disease. Elven arrows seem to litter their corpses but little signs of actual battle have been left. The scouts seemed to have cleared the way as they were on patrol.

Ren looks to the others in Wharftown passing off some arrows to those staying there and speaking among his kin to make sure they are all okay. After getting a small update he soon heads out with his small band and as soon as they arrived they seem to have left without much trace of being there. Those that heard of wood elves and their talents with the land would not be surprised by this. But those that had not may turn a cheek at how swiftly the actions were done.

With the arrival of the ballistas from Kholigen it would seem that the Warmaster had found something new to keep his time occupied. After drills were concluded throughout the day a small group of the town's militiamen would be designated to learning in depth of the new ballistas; particularly the proper use and safety involved in using such weaponry. This routine would continue until the town's militiamen were well versed with the ballistas, and the Warmaster was confident in their ability to effectively use such.

In-between drills and these training sessions he could be seen carrying about a small field journal, careful notations were made rather frequently as he moved about the various locations of which the ballista had been placed. His gaze seemed to always be shifting between the ballista and other locations along the dock and cliff-side. It would seem that the current placement or positioning might be in question.

With the majority of life signs in wharftown being of a military nature, Amelia Warmglow is often seen approaching the various military leaders, squad commanders and so on and so forth and offering to perform medical exams on the troops to help ensure the yare in tip top fighting shape.

Those that accept and allow her to examine the troops find her an incredibly detail oriented and meticulous, and the troops are but through an INCREDIBLY detailed and in depth medical assessment, she pretty much leaves no split hair unchecked and no ache, pain or wince untreated. She hands out certificates of sounds health to the soldiers she examines who are fit for their rigorous duties to present to their various commanders.

The donations of lumber from Ahsra gradually trickle to a halt, on a seemingly final count of one hundred and fifty logs, of various species to meet a variety of needs, and three hundred and twenty planks, most of which was fragrant cedar. After that arbitrary number was met, the ascetic no longer entered the Shanty with hauls of lumber slung awkwardly at her back.

In the dim hours of the morning, before Lathanders orb rose to grace Wharftown with its light, the warriors of the People's Warband ready themselves for their departure. Tents are broken down, rucksacks are packed, and equipment is stowed -- all in sober silence. No victory songs are sung; no marching tunes are played; no farewells are spoken. In less than an hour the soldiers of Winya Ravana were gone without a trace, silently vanishing like ghosts in the early morning mist.
