Two Quick Questions!

1. What are the current archdevils in Amia canon? It's sort of a grey area because it's never specifically been covered to my knowledge, and depending on who you ask, the Lord of the Sixth is either still the Hag Countess', or it's Glasya's.

2. Does our Amia canon Tiamat layer in Avernus, oh great DMs in the sky.

I think Tormak may have answered that to me before actually but I forget so gg.

The current Archdukes of Hell:

1: Avernus - Bel (Tiamat lives here.)
2: Dis - Dispater
3: Minaros - Mammon
4: Phlegethos - Fierna and Belial
5: Stygia - Levistus
6: Malbolge - Glasya (and has never been up for debate)
7: Maladomini - The Rider Beyond (not Baalzebul - he's dead.)
8: Cania - Mephistopheles
9: Nessus - Asmodeus

This very suddenly brings up a question. Are any of the events depicted in Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pool of Radiance, Neverwinter Nights (1 or 2), or Planescape: Torment canon for us? Anything involving hand-crafted protagonists are right out, I assume, but what of the actions and threats in question?

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 is canon - the ending where the Bhaalspawn does not ascend is canon.

I don't know IWD or Pool of Radiance.

The original campaign of NWN was, as far as I am aware, made canon, but SoU and HotU was not. I may be wrong about this one - either way, I don't beliebe we acknowledge any of the campaigns on Amia as canon.

This I am afraid. Else everyone who played it with a chara they later made on Amia suddenly killed Mephistopheles XD that could lead to weirdness and confusion!

Despite the fact that it isn't relevant in an Amia sense, the SoU and HoTU stuff is in fact explicitly canon -- not to our setting but to outside ones, for those of you who may PnP with this stuff.

As depressing and grim as that is for Kobolds everywhere.

As of 3.5 and the Player's guide to Faerûn Tiamat more specifically now resides with the rest of the Draconic Pantheon in the Dragon Eyrie, however her domain there the Cave of Greed is supposed to maintain a soft border with Avernus.

Here's what I wanted to know. Gotcha, thanks!

I was just making sure it wasn't wrong of me to consider Avernus a holy realm or even THE holy realm <_<'

My question on this....

How many people who are in Amia would actually know any of this? Not being snarky, really, I just have always played as a person on the island, never really traveled planes (which I'm not sure you can do without DM supervision anyway), and as such.... even any evil oriented PC I have wouldn't have any way to know all of the levels of Baator, let alone who rules or lives where.

Am I playing too small minded?

Divination is basically an entire school dedicated to relevent spells for finding out information you couldnt otherwise.

Of course there is also the rather classic and in a case like this incredibly direct route of mages who have bound and questioned demons.

So... if you're not a mage, and don't question mages who have done this sort of thing, you likely wouldn't know? I'm genuinely curious just how casual this knowledge is and how appropriate it would be for my characters to know.

Well the mage and anyone they talk to or anyone who reads a book from any of the many well known IC authors in FR itself, Volo for example is cannonically an author of many titles.

The Volo's guide to ______ are essentially both real life and fictional series of books.
However many other mostly mages have authored books.

It depends on the character. Most high level characters who end up involved in adventure-y things could reasonably come into at least some of this information, especially with specific regard to Asmodeus, and Mephistopheles. The Rider Beyond specifically has cults that operate in the Amian and Ruathym region and so is popular out in this area.

~~

As for the Rider Beyond himself, he is an Amian homebrew entity who eventually ascended to Archduke through the combined efforts of a lot of evil PCs. He is militarily minded and is working on rebuilding Maladomini to be a massive military-industrial complex. He is associated with Chain Devils and Bearded Devils, as well as Nightmares. He obviously has other servants as well. He doesn't disdain magic but prefers a more martial bent to his work.

His catapulting to an extreme power level has won him allies and enemies very quickly in Hell: It is quietly whispered that Asmodeus helped sponsor his meteoric rise to rule. Mephistopheles, despite the removal of Baalzebul, despises the new Lord of the 7th because of the rumors of Asmodeus' infiiltration. Belial and Fierna have made as-yet-unanswered gestures, though Belial is unhappy because Glasya, ruler of the 6th and Asmodeus' daughter, has also allied with the Rider Beyond due to her father's support. Dispater is paranoid, as he always is, and Bel, who was at first thrilled to have another Archduke who shared his outlook on things, has become wary that the others may see the arrival of the Rider Beyond as reason for him now outliving his usefulness.

This is largely an OOC view of his politics because it's fun to discuss these things on a lore level, and things beyond the first paragraph would not be known IC.

I agree with Tormak on this one. Knowledge of certain things can definitely be RP'd. Remember, despite the PC environment being all adventurers, the NPC population represented is supposed to dwarf us. You would be correct in assuming that most farmers and guards would probably have a very small scope. The PC's however, are Priests, Clerics, Mages, Bards, Druids...you get the point. Exceptional folks. There is nothing wrong with playing someone who is ignorant, though the OP has a very good reason for asking and a very viable reason for knowing.
